Wait, during B2S historically do they give you the option of taking the free iPod Touch or whatever or simply getting $200 off the price? And I assume the $200 off is off the full retail price.

Educational discounts are less than that, right?

I agree whole-heartily with what you're saying. If nothing happens by July 1st, I think it's safe to conclude that nothing will happen this year.

An Apple tv would be an interesting gift....although I would prefer getting $200 off an iPad Mini (mostly for flipping reasons as I already have a Mini), I would probably keep the Apple tv though just to play around with.

I'm not so sure. There is apparently a new iWork suite coming for OS X and iOS, perhaps this year they intend to give that suite to students for free as a part of the BTS promo, but since they haven't said anything specific about the next iWork suite other than casually mentioning it in the WWDC announcement, maybe they are also keeping the BTS 2013 promo hush hush until they are ready to announce the new iWork. Here's to hopping I guess. As a student who will be buying a new Mac I'd rather not have to buy the iWork suite so it would be nice if they gave me a 100$ gift card and the suite for free.

No it changes every year. Last year they just gave you a 100$ iTunes gift card on top of the standard education discount.

If you are heading to college, they typically have free software on campus. I went to Pitt and received all of the new software for free when it became available. I would check in to that before you purchase anything.

I heard a similar thing from an apple store employee, except I got the impression it might not start until the first week of July.

Also, this employee told me that if I bought now and the BTS started next week I wouldn't be able to claim the promo. Odd, since I thought if you were within two weeks you could claim it retroactively.

No, because you didn't buy it within the promo window. The 14 days is just for returns. So basically just return yours. Then ask to buy a new one. Literally a new one as they can't sell yours back, and get the promo. The purchase has to be made within the promo date range.

where did you hear this

Can't comment on my source, but they were confident on next week.

The apple rep I spoke with said they would grant you the promo if the BTS sale starts within your return period.

Ya good tip in general. I don't know if all universities and programs are that good (maybe in the US they are dunno). At Hopkins I got pretty much anything I wanted, but where I am now in Canada they don't offer anything, and when they do, it's usually only at a discount. Plus I don't remember the liscencing terms exactly, but it may have been you are free to use the software as long as you are a student at that institution. Once you leave you might be supposed to remove it, even if they know no one actually does.

The problem with going into mid, or even late July is that it may not give enough time for students to actually receive their computers in time. You have to keep in mind that there are some colleges out there that actually start in August, not September, and for those who go out of state, they usually have to leave in late August anyway to their campus.

You also run the risk of lost sales for those who couldn't wait that long, but I'm sure Apple is very aware of that and have forecasted that already.

I think the July 1st deadline is pretty reasonable.

Hi guys,

Just wanted to tell everybody that the B2S will take place soon and not with iPad mini etc, just the same as last year (iTunes Card)

The apple rep I spoke with said they would grant you the promo if the BTS sale starts within your return period.

Good news for me, with a new MBA on its way, but out of curiosity, how would I go about contacting them to ask for the promo in this case:

My account is a UK one, but I'm currently in Sweden and will be for some time beyond the return period, so the usual method of contacting Apple support to make a request like this -- by phone or in-store -- won't be available to me within the return period. The order was placed online via the Swedish store using my UK account (with the standard educational discount; it has at present been dispatched, but still over a week away from the predicted delivery date, so if the murmurs are true, should be well within its return period if BTS happens next week, and assuming it's the same throughout Europe).

I've tried to use the 'chat to a representative' option on the UK education store, but was not allowed because my IP is out-of-country, and there does not seem to be a similar service on the Swedish store. I'm hesitant about phoning the Swedish support line as I don't speak the language, and don't really want to run up an international phone bill trying to get in touch via the UK number. Is there an email address I can use to contact support in this case, should the BTS promotion go up within my return period, or is there another way I can get in touch?

The BTS promo was launched in India today. It is 14,000 rupees off an iPad mini with your purchase, which is about 238 US dollars.

Is that "cost of iPad mini - $200" or "$238 for iPad mini after discount" ?
The site just mentions deepened Macbook discounts, no mention of a iPad mini discount. I can't seem to find any other online indian web site to confirm this.

Edit: I see a iPad mini is about $370 over there.

Yeah, the article does not mention any discounts on iPad mini, just education pricing for MacBooks.

PM sent.

Hmm; these rumours aren't very inspiring.

I think it would be a real shame if Apple doesn't offer a BTS deal, though. I still think they will - I think if they weren't going to, they would have put more effort into marketing their education discount, and at least have suggested they weren't putting one on this year.

was at the 5th Ave Apple store this morning

and very nearly walked out with a current gen 13" rMBP, but while I was talking to the sales person about getting the Adobe CS for the special bundle price, she said...

"Well it's not the back to school event YET..."

I know it came from a sales associate, but I thought I'd chime in about it. Really hope the rMBPs get refreshed in the next two months.

I'd imagine that if any Apple Store is gonna be in the know about this sort of thing, promotions etc, it's the Fifth Avenue store, so this is some good news.

Created an account just for this post.

So I, along with many other college students, am probably thinking "This WOULD happen to me!.... :( "

What surprises me is how the delayed BTS promo has gotten so little attention. I feel like since this is the latest Apple has started the promo more people would have brought it to attention. I am waiting to purchase my first laptop a rMBP, and I am guessing the update to Haswell will come with the BTS promo (HOPEFULLY) on July 1st (since it'll be almost a week after the 14 day return period for those who purchased MBA's on launch day) . Everyone keeps saying Intel hasn't released the specific chips that go in the MacBook Pro's and that's why Apple hasn't updated the pro line, but I can't find any news on this. If Apple waits to update the pro's to Haswell that would just be waay too many releases of new products crammed into the end of the year.

I am also hoping that this year's BTS promo will be the best one yet as a way of Apple apologizing to customers for the wait, with free iPad Mini's. That would be so sweet! (Wishful thinking :) )

The haswell processors for the macbook pro line have been released now, so the delay is on Apple's part not intels.

That's awesome! Can you give a link to the news? But if that's true that means the updated MBP and RMBP are right around the corner!......... right?
