If people actually buy a PC because Microsoft is offering a free XBox, then Microsoft is accomplishing exactly what they set out to do. They are banking on the customers who are on the fence about which computer to buy that the XBox will sway them.

Apple has such a small part of the personal computer market to begin with. They are not going to lose the Mac faithful over this promotion. I am willing to bet we see big sales numbers during this promotion. Afterall, we will have to choose from a new iMac, MBP and MBA with a FREE upgrade to OS X Lion when it is available in July. What does a Windows based machine have to offer? A year and a half old operating system, no new technology and nothing on the horizon.

People, stop the complaining, get your discount, free printer, and $100 Apple gift card and enjoy your state of the art Mac!!

What do you think the * Asterik denotes...

Will we have the option of getting a $100 of ANYTHING or does it just mean it can be used on iTunes and iBooks as well?

It's just the small print on the bottom that says it must be a qualifying mac and if you return it your refund price will be the mac minus the gift card. And a few other small details.

2. If you are going to call some one a moron, you're just going to make them laugh if you end up looking like a moron yourself when you can't even figure out simple grammar rules such as your = possessive and you're = you are when you call them a moron. Oh, and shake their heads at how stupid the youth of today can be *sigh*.

Yeah, but pointing it out and correcting his grammar does not make your idea more enlightened. I think it is the equivalent of telling someone their socks don't match in response to an argument about high fuel prices. Bad form...

So does this mean they won't wait until September for new iPod Touch/iPhones?:D

There have been lots of rumors about low stock on iPods. One even claiming the classic was getting the axe which turned out not to be true. I think it's more that MP3 players don't sell like they used to with smart phones replacing them, and Apple's learned to balance their inventory better.

The promo was always more of a way to help reduce inventory before the refresh.

You'll still be waiting till September. They need all the time they can get to fix that stupid Nano from last year. Actually, I'm surprised it's not a free nano with purchase. I'd imagine they have a lot of that model laying around at least.

Thanks guys I appreciate the assistance.

Why do people argue over whether or not it is acceptable to be disappointed in the promotion?

Why do you care if someone else is let down?

Maybe you should spend less time on YouPorn and more time with a real-life woman!!! :) I hear some event consent to your wishes
:)

1. My idea wasn't moronic, it's reality (all I said was that prices get expensive and companies tend to get worse on their offers). If you don't think that's the reality of it, well, when you grow up, you'll find out. Sorry, inflation has been happening way before any of us were born (even the oldest member here). And companies, especially in recessions, cut back on incentives (and sometimes they add to them, but sometimes that means they are using desperate tactics cause they have no other way to get sales, sometimes them offering something really good is a bad sign for that company/store). That's life.

2. You also don't write with perfect grammar, but it's certainly better than the other poster's!

Yeah I know. Some one is pretty sad when I end up correcting their grammar (cause then they have some glaringly easy to fix problems).

What's worse was the kid I saw one time on some dog forum who wanted to be an english teacher whose grammar was so horrible I had to try to parse what she was saying. She claimed she couldn't be bothered to take the effort to type correctly when it was just the net but my thoughts were if it was that hard for her to at least be legible in english, then maybe she shouldn't be a teacher (It's not like I put much effort into the grammar I write on here).

People, stop the complaining, get your discount, free printer, and $100 Apple gift card and enjoy your state of the art Mac!!

This is my first post...........with that said I have been reading and following this site and forum for a few weeks, reading tons and patiently waiting for the new deal to be announced. Thank you for summing it up for me, you are so correct.

I have wanted a Mac for several years and never saw the logic in spending the extra money. I have spent 1300-1500 on two PC laptops and (batteries power cables and other crap that broke) in the last 5-6 years. One I am typing on now the other is DEAD. I decided when this laptop started giving me more problems I would bite the bullet and spend the money and at least give it a try. After all, the resale value is phenomenal. So I was all ready to buy last weekend then started reading and seeing the promotion that may be coming. Needless to say I waited because I was excited to get TWO Apple devices (I currently own none) As a matter of fact I considered asking what kind of deal they would make in store if I bought a Macbook Pro, Ipad and Iphone but have read they do not deal.

So in a nutshell I am a little disappointed. I mean for someone who has never owned anything Apple and is getting ready to take the leap over it was a huge promotion. Does this mean I will choose PC for an Xbox..........nah I have 4 PCs(only 2 working) and have two Xbox's and have HAD 4 of those total because of faulty hardware.

I hope those of you bashing the ones who are only pissed because they wanted to sell the Ipod understand the side of someone who is 100% new and is taking the plunge into the Apple pool.

I've been accepted into college and everything but I don't have a physical student id. I have my student id number. Will I still be able to get everything with just the student id number?

Just bring in your acceptance letter or a print out of an acceptance/enrollment e-mail. That will be enough.

I honestly would have to agree. Hell, Microsoft is giving away a $200 xbox with as little as a $600 windows PC.

Apple is giving a low value to consumers if this is the only option...

Hmm. Giving a $200 Xbox is smart for Microsoft though. You'll probably buy storage... and they get money from EVERY game sold for the system. Chances are they would recoup that give away in a year easily.

Apple on the other hand that strategy doesn't work as well unless you bought Apple software where they take less of a hit. From 3rd parties, they loose their 30% commission, and still have to credit them for their 70% as if it were a sale. I don't really see any logic to this promotion except to try and drive more traffic into the Mac App store. (Personally, if that's the intent, I think most people will buy music and IOS apps more so than Mac Apps once they read the fine print.)

At least when they gave away iPods, it drove you to purchase apps/music etc. It just seems like the old way would have driven more sales to Apple to maybe profit from the give away or break even. The Mac App store isn't really all that exciting. If they had Office in the Mac App Store, and you could essentially snag that for $14 after the $100 credit, that would be enticing if you didn't already own a copy. Most students would need Office, though many could probably get away with Pages. Maybe.

There went my plans to own an ipod. I haven't used the itunes or mac App Stores yet, so, don't forsee a use for the gift card.

It's almost sad how spoiled people are these days(I said almost its more hilarious). I kind of wish next year they don't give us anything so people can say
"We're sorry please give us at least the gift cards!".

You don't know what you really have until its gone, just appreciate that they gave us something in the first place.

As I understand your post, you have corrected the grammar of another? Did you read what you just wrote? I truly am being silly, but that first sentence was not just a run on; it was running a marathon. Cause=because no need for the ( ) as that almost made for a sentence that wasn't a run on.

I'm just picking to be silly, but if I had a red pen... I think most people are reading posts in the little free time they have. Often, people are just trying to quickly reply to something and move on to another thing. I'm sure if they were writing formally, we would not see the butchery we witness on ever thread, on every website, all over the country. As long as you aren't writing posts in text message short hand LOL my bff wnt 2 sto n got food I don't care

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8J2 Safari/6533.18.5)

8GB iPod touch to a $100 AppStore gift card??? That's cheap... at least Microsoft is giving out Xboxes.

Could you elaborate on that a little? Microsoft is giving out Xboxes for what? When you buy Windows?

For those of you who, like me, think a hundred dollar iTunes card is useless, I just wanted to mention that you can in many cases get your new Mac from MacMall for less than you would pay via the educational discount. If you click through the prices on AppleInsider for this link, you will get another 3% off too--which doesn't sound like much, but can be nice on a $1200 computer.

I've been waiting a month to buy my first iMac because of the upcoming deal. Our family already has 2 ipod touches, so that didn't really interest me however I'm not one to pass up a free item, so that was why I was waiting. The $100 app store card is going to be a real benefit to me since I don't have any programs for the Apple. I figure I will need iWork or Office for college anyway, so the deal is perfect for me. And I imagine it's great for lots of other students/families that already have all the ipods they need. My complaint is that they didn't release this back in May as was traditionally done, and it sure is a bummer that the App store card isn't $200 to make it more comparable with prior offers. Otherwise, yay, I'm just glad the wait for this promo is nearly over!

I don't normally go grammar nazi. I just think it's funny when some one calls me a moron, he types, "your a moron." I mean, that's a glaringly bad error (it just strikes me as funny to call some one a moron and in the same sentence make an error that stupid). Everything else I corrected him on I just did it for effect (specially the spelling of you which was obvious he didn't actually think u was the correct spelling but being lazy about typing the whole word for whatever reason, least I'm pretty sure he put "u" on purpose).

Honestly, I don't think I'm asking much to be able to figure out the placement of an apostrophe that completely changes meaning of a word. It really doesn't take that much effort. Certainly easier than dealing with run on sentences (and sentence fragments). Usually, I'm mostly happy long as I can understand what they are saying.

My whole original point in my reply to him was the fact that if you are going to call some one a moron, you really should not make such obvious mistakes while doing so ;).

Oh, and I did try to keep my grammar mostly correct in my reply to him. I didn't bother after that.

Ok, so why were they willing to pay hundreds more for it than the PC? If it's just a computer, why not save the money in the first place and buy the PC, cause ipod or gift certificate, the mac is still significantly more?

Wow...so you believe people pay more for a Mac because it's more than just a computer? It's not just a computer? You just can't have a rational conversation with a religious zealot like you.

But when you were willing to pay hundreds more for the mac over the pc, don't tell me you thought the pc was the same thing. You obviously saw that much value in the mac.

Of course not the same thing; different tools, same job, slightly differences. The mac is not some separate transcendental artifact. It's a computer. JUST A COMPUTER.

European Users Get $106?!

This is crap, Apple is giving people in Europe a 75 Euro gift card ($106) just because its an even "good looking" number. That's a bad apple, Apple.

guess I'm not getting a mac

I was just on the border of buying a mac, and with the free ipod, I felt that the price would be worth it. a $100 itunes gift card is essentially useless. Very disappointing....
