I'm really annoyed with this backlight bleeding. I didn't notice it at first, when I did I couldn't stop focusing on it. Apple replaced it for me, a brown box replacement and guess what that has it too.

They said they'd order another one in as they didn't have any in stock but they said it would likely have bleeding on as well. I mean what sort of response is that? They acknowledged it as a fault why aren't they fixing it? It's like they are beginning to class it as a feature now.

if Apple can't deliver a working item then they should start offering refunds. For the money i paid for the ipad I expect it to be faultless! It's not a lot to ask for a working screen. i'm starting to use ssh a lot on it now and the bloody bleeding really distracts me.

Apple has been problems with backlight bleeding in almost all of their devices for years (iMac, New Macbook Pros, etc), but they decided not to do anything about it since 90% off buyers don't notice it or care. Not everyone is as picky as us because we're geeks :)

I really hope they fix it in the future (will be hard since its a common issue with the screens), but I doubt it as they've gone mainstream and couldn't care less about people like us.

Crossing my fingers though!

Btw... replace it until you find one with as little backlight bleeding as possible, I high doubt you'll get a perfect one, unless you can try 100 different ones of course :)

Serial #DLXFJ.....
Received from China on April 14.
Bleed is evident on three sides. Not as bad as some, but bad enough that I'm going to be requesting a replacement via applecare, this week.

I think the Apple store will bar me if i go back too many times. I've had problems with my iphone... my nano. I don't seem to have much luck. I wouldn't be surprised if my macbook pro burst into flames really. maybe I have a strange magnetic field around me that breaks Apple products :(

Sorry to hear, but same here :( I went through 4 iMacs and then when I got my Mac Pro I had issues with the graphics card, which the "Geniuses" refused to replace saying it wasn't the problem. They finally gave in after a week of testing and after that it worked of course.

But... now I feel uncomfortable going to the geniuses at the local store since I've been there so many times and they were clearly frustrated with me...

Here's my serial,
DN6FM

Bleed is on the entire left side and bottom right corner.

DMPFP is my first 5 of my serial

ordered back in may 6th on the apple site. Received this morning, under office lighting conditions I don't see any bleed. No dead pixel's either. The real test comes when I get home and hang out in my man cave...then we'll see if it bleeds.

Crossing my fingers, this has been a 2 month long affair.

How many units have you gone through

the newest one I got a few weeks ago had very little bleed only on one side, little enough that it's only noticeable in a totally dark room, which i basically am never in, and even then only on a black background.

Screen is great other than that. My first iPad 2 had it somewhat bad and to be totally honest I never would have noticed it had I not read this thread... and this thread caused me to return 3 iPad's before I became satisfied. If you can, don't check. If you notice it in regular use it's an issue.

lmao...yeah i've gone through quite a few, my fault though, i kept going in every other day like an idiot thinking they'll fix the issue within the month. I also spent a little less on this one because I had the 64gb but after returning that, i opted to get 16gb to save money.

Just got my 3rd replacement

this the the 3rd ipad i ordered brand new from apple.com

1st ipad = bleed and returned for full refund
2nd ipad = bleed and returned for full refund
3rd ipad = NO BLEED! KEEPING IT!

Finally!

3rd time is always a charm. Serial DLXFQ..... NO backlight bleed. two VERY tiny spots..nothing to cry over but MUCH MUCH better than most I've seen and especially much better than the past two iPads I bought! Keeping this one!

Nice. Would you mind posting your first five letters?

iPad 2 (Second Try)

I bought and returned an iPad 2 the first week they were released in Canada several months ago. The screen backlight bleeding was unacceptable to me.

After reading that they were able to get the backlight bleeding under control (moving to samsung screens), I decided to give it another go tonight for my "birthday present".

I just opened the box and turned the unit on and it went back in the box and is getting returned again tomorrow. The screen bleeding is worse than the first one I had several months ago.

Serial starts with: DN6FN...

These iPad's are absolutely terrible quality. Anyone saying it is an isolated number of units are plain wrong. I can't have that bad of luck 2 units several months apart from each other.

Apple should be ashamed of themselves duping people with substandard quality units.

I might give apple a call tomorrow to talk to someone about this and let them politely know how I feel about the quality of the iPad 2.

I am not that complaining type of guy.. but this is just very disheartening..

Awesome & congrats. It looks like you've got yourself a perfect iPad 2. :)

This gives me genuine hope that I'll be able to get an iPad 2 with a "perfect" screen when I finally am able to snag one at a local B&M store. :D

Never-ending bleeding

Serial: DN6FN ..
Black 64GB Wi-Fi

http://tinypic.com/r/2qx49de/7

Bleed and a dead pixel. This is at the booting 50% brightness. Never even plugged it in. It's going back to the store tomorrow. It is apparent there is no quality control improvements. It's just a fluke to get a quality unit apparently.

This was my second and last attempt ... I tried months ago when they first came out and it is not worth this time and aggravation.

In the 1st image, the bleed can be seen clearly. But u happy with it, so you should keep it. I think chance to get one like that is not so high.

That looks exactly like mine did with the bleed in the same spots.
