I'm not defending it, I'm just telling you that it doesn't bother me. If it bothers me even 1%, it doesn't offset my 150% satisfaction with the product. So, for me, I guess I'm 149% satisfied with my purchase. :)

Truth be told, if I had the same issue with my 50" Panasonic Plasma, I wouldn't take it back. But, that's just me.

I don't know what to say about that. I'm sure you and others will exchange your defective units IF apple decides to declare there was a manufacturing problem with these ipads...

Well what you have to keep in mind is the amount of bleeding varies a lot.

Some have terribly noticeable bleeding, others have very minor bleeding that can only be noticed with brightness at 100% and a black screen displayed.

The former should be exchanged, the latter may be as good as it gets with the way the iPad 2 is built and is really of no concern if it's truly not noticeable during normal usage when watching movies and other dark content etc.

I have no loyalty to Apple. Bluntly, I dislike the company and their fanboys and the iPad 2 will be my 2nd ever Apple product (the other being an iPod nano). If I have noticeable light bleed watching video etc., I will exchange it or return it. But I'm not going to go out of my way and go shut myself in the pitch black bathroom and turn brightness to 100% to find a problem if I don't notice one during normal usage like some have.

What's strange is that if there are actually non-defective iPad 2 screens, I have yet to see any posted here about their iPad 2 NOT having the screen bleeding issues.

If there is JUST ONE ipad 2 without the screen bleed issue, then you know this is a serious problem. Unless you want to think backwards and say the iPad 2's that don't have screen backlight bleeding issues are NOT the normal ones ;)

The iPhone 4? Whats wrong with the iPhone 4? The non-existent antenna "issue"?

Let me list them for you:

Same yellow tinting issue as the ipad that never went away.

Bad ambient light sensor allowing you to end calls, conference calls, speaker phone your iphone 4 when your face is against the glass.

Antenna issue without a cover on

Battery issue (for me it was 3 times - but bad luck probably)

Creaking of back cover (had to unscrew and resnap back on)

Easily scratcable back cover

Probably would be more if I was picky. My iPhone 3GS' problem was the white plastic cracking...

IpadThai, you are never going to get your point across or win with apple fanboys. They will argue and stand up for apple till the death. LOL.

I'm an apple fanboy myself but even I have principals here. I mean where are the screen shots of the non defective units? I love my ipad 2. I seriously do. But I cannot sit here looking at the most important component of the iPad and tell myself about the issue being a non-issue like the kid in the matrix movie, "there is no spoon, there is no spoon".

If you settle for less, you will let your beloved apple product quality fail!

I know what you are saying. Im in the same boat. I own an iphone4, a 17" macbook pro, an appletv2 and an ipad 2. I just returned my ipad2 because of the screen which was horrible. I have yet to see a screen on an ipad2 without light bleed also.

It's not being worked up about it - it's being proactive about it. Posting on MR is the best thing to do to get the word out in full effect. Of course I'm po'd. I don't expect these sort of issues especially when Apple is all secretive about the iPad 2 without demo units until after 5pm launch day. Making everyone wait and not having a pre-order just to drive up hype and hysteria.

I'm not entitled to a damn thing but I'm for sure entitled to a working device that has no screen defects. The MOST IMPORTANT COMPONENT OF THE IPAD IS THE SCREEN. For me, it's movie watching on the go for about 80% of the time on the iPad.

Why would you think that anyone cares if you are returning your iPad? I'm sure there are many that will return it but they don't feel the need to get on here and post like its the end of the world. Get over yourself.

Amen to that

To be honest, this should be the type of event you would expect on a low end cheap model from China, it's low price, so it's pot luck. It should not really be pot luck basically buying the highest end product you can.

The best they should do is tighten quality control to catch the really bad screens, or perhaps it's actually cheaper for them to use the public as quality control, just ship them all, and either they are accepted of they get returned.

I exchanged my iPad 5 times, ending up with none. Didn't want to try anymore, so I decided to wait for the next one, hoping/believing they solved the issue. Back then I decided to write a letter to Apple, thinking if no one points out that there is a problem, well how can one exspect them to fix it.
I told them that they should better their quality control, or next time people may notice it more, and their reputation could be hurt.
Back then I also debated here in this thread:
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1009209/

Ofcause I never heard anything ;o) - but reading this, and not just here - makes me think a new letter could be in order, with the line:

Told you so ;o)

snowatom

P.S. Ofcause I want an iPad2 just sad to know that I might end up exchaning it 5 times, and maybe ending up with none, and waiting to try again on iPad 3.

Sorry, but I had to return both my iPad 2's for the issue of backlight bleeding. There is no exchange that brought me satisfaction to fix this stupid quality issue. I cannot believe a $500+ apple device bought on day 1 after waiting a whole 6 hours in line can result in such ridiculous quality issues.

Before you rant on about all the iPad 1's have this issue, both my iPad 1's did not have any issue like this nor dead/stuck pixels.

The quality of the iPhone 4 is a testament to how bad QA is from Apple these days. I'm not gonna play the lotto game so I'm returning for full refund. After a few months, I'm gonna rebuy it when I see signs of it being fixed.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND ANYONE WITH THIS ISSUE TO RETURN THEIRS FOR MONEY BACK. Don't settle for a $500+ device and get something you'd expect from HTC, HP, DELL, and/or SAMSUNG/LG.

The old G4 Cube had issues with cracked plastic, Some iMacs had horrible issues with the screen warping after a while, the previous Macbooks had issues with cracking plastic and like you mentioned, the iPhone 4 issue. Stuff happens. Hopefully this issue that you describe will be addressed sometime soon.

excuse you? obviously it was important enough for you to reply. Don't get all hurt when you see threads complaining about the reality of apple products being flawed. Don't take it personal, mang.

I've decided to hang on to my bleeder until it can be replaced.
I should have a year to do so.
Or, I can return it by the 24th with no questions asked. (Best Buy)

The discussion here is obviously about principles here. I dont know why so many are bashing those who have the issue and would like to vote with their wallet/actions. He's right, if we just accept what we are given without a fuss, we would end up with progressively lower quality products.

here are the two I got.

The backlight issue might be more livable on the $499 model like I bought someone in my family. They're enjoy it still.

When you spend $900+ with tax for top of the line, it really hurts.

It seems obvious virtually every unit has the issue, so what's the point of even trying to exchange anymore?

no screen bleed on mine. Then again I'm also one of those people that runs it at like 15-20% brightness, and will never go near the vivid setting on my tv. Maybe if I put it at 100% and went in a closet, I might see some screen bleed. But I really don't care to waste my time checking.

I bought the most expensive model too (though it hasn't come in yet) so I feel you there. but it's really hard to judge how severe this is. if 1% of users are affected but they're the only ones talking about it, it makes it feel like it's 99% of units affected even though it might be much less.

What back light bleeding are you talking about from HTC, HP, Samsung, etc?

I have an HTC Inspire 4G right now, no back light bleeding nor has there been any reported from others. I owned a Samsung Captivate before that, a Galaxy S phone, no back light bleeding reported as an issue there either.

Hell, even my ASUS 23" widescreen monitor I'm reading this on has no back light bleeding.

Don't go attacking other companies just because your favorite one disappointed you with such a lowly problem in your device, learn your facts before you accuse.
