Second iPad 2:

Another genius bar appointment... Hopefully this time I'll walk out with a good iPad

Three for three. Either I have seriously bad luck or this is happening on most iPad 2s.

Notice that the bleeding is affecting the video as well.

I really don't know what to do now. Even this last retail swap was very difficult (I went from 64gb verizon white to 64gb at&t white because they didn't have any 64gb verizon whites anymore) and I got the same genius who looked seriously annoyed. She was nice, but her attitude was basically "either live with it or return it." Plus I have to go back there again because I was stupid and didn't deactivate the data plan on the first iPad (and I don't know the ESN). I kind of want to try going to another apple store, but I don't know how they'll react to my situation. :( :( :(

In your situation I would return it and wait a few months later and see. If apple can give you the attitude of either take it or return it then u really have no choice.

I think at this point all the screens for the most part are having some serious issues even though everyone is not complaining .

My 64gig Wifi i sold had some backlight bleed just at the bottom but the person that bought it was not bothered at all with it and happy to just have one..

So i bought a 32gig today and its probably 8 times worse with light leaking all over the place.. i just dont feel like being bothered trying to get another only to be disappointed again so i am going to try and hold tight for a month or so and then exchange it hoping things got better with production..

Who knows at this point if things will ever get better but i was missing having my new shiny toy so i took another shot and yeah i missed the mark big time with this second one

I never really notice the leakage till i hit those black screens between things loading so its not always an issue but when i do see it my heart sinks a little bit .

I have an appointment to have a genius look at my iPad. The backlight issue isn't too bad on my current one but I have a white blob in the upper corner of the screen about the size of a dot from a sharpie. If they replace it and the new one has more problems (worse light bleed, dead pixels etc) will they try another one right there if they have stock or am I stuck with one that's worse?

I can't believe this is not front page news like antenna gate was. I know, I know, people only get on these forums to complain and not to say "My iPads perfect" but come on!!!! It's showing up A LOT and iPads people are getting in exchange are just as bad if not worse then what they started with.

Go back to the same apple store, ask for a manager, explain all the inconvenience you have gone through. Tell them you want an iPad without light leaks, not looking for a return, ask what they suggest and listen without interrupting. If they don't offer a good solution ask if the issue can be documented and you can have it fixed or replaced without hastle at a later date, even if it's past the 14 days etc. They'll most likely work with you. Those pictures are hideous, you deserve a fair resolve to this problem, apple will take care of you, they are a solid company in the customer service dept.

I don't think that many people have the new ipads yet

The antenna gate issue on the iphone 4 is a problem that was easily noticeable even by the average joe that isn't tech savy, since they would see on the top their signal is dropping. The light bleed problem a lot of people don't care to look and if they do notice, it doesn't bother them like it would bother most of us on this board. Since you need to have a dark picture to really notice it the bulk of the bleed.

Received my 32gb white wifi this morning, noticed some bleeding so decided to talk to Genius bar. Surprisingly , they acknowledged the issue and getting me a replacement at the brea mall apple store. So I think they do have replacement units instock

Would online orders be able to go to a genius bar if this problem occurred? Because I get mine tomorrow and hoping the bleeding isn't to bad because I don't want to return it and have to wait over a month to get a new one.

I also just got a replacement at the brea mall tonight for my white 16 gig. The problem is still there. Not to mention the bezel still looks disconnected from the glass.

Its ridiculous!

I have three new iPads. One black 64gb, one white 64gb and one white 32gb. All three have the bleeding light from the edges. I still have a 64gb 1st generation iPad to compare it to and it doesn't have the severity of bleeding all three of these new ones do. I understand there is a certain amount of light bleed that can be expected. My first gen. does have some bleeding, but its very dispersed and slight. The light bleeding occurring on these iPad 2s is concentrated, significant and distracting, to say the least.

Also, both 64gb ipads have entire screens that seems tinged yellow. They aren't yellow in spots, but compared to the 1st gen. and my son's 32gb iPad 2, the two new 64s have a yellowish tint to the entire screen. My son's screen is more of a brighter whitish/blue color.

I'm not happy about any of these developments. Such a shame to mar such an amazing machine.

If you are asking if they will keep opening ipad boxes until they find a 'good' one, the answer is no, they won't.

What does Apple do with all these $500-900 machines that people are returning just within a couple days of purchasing?

just go to a different apple store if one gives up...I would just wait a couple months though until they figure out their production and or qa process and fix this issue

My bleed has lessened over the last few days. Must be the glue. I'm definitely not returning to get one that's worse. I did that with my iPad 1 and had the same issue. I'm just glad the iPad 2 doesn't have the screen warmth inconsistencies of the iPad 1 which was warmer on the right side in portrait mode than it was on the left.

Well they found out the replacement unit was even worse so I just kept mine instead. They only had 1 white 32gb wifi.

Yep. I ordered online & got it this morning.

lancer, did you have an issue with the bezel kind of looking like there was a gap between it and the glass on the white one?

I didnt leave the store till I had one without the bleed. The one I have now very very small amount and expect some to be there. Night and day difference from first. I would expect some but nothing like couple post above. Take into the bathroom at store or take a coat and place over your head to demo. If bad ask for another.

These $500-900 machines most likely cost them $180-200. So they'll refurbish it and resell if it cost them less than the profit.
