Well i bought mine from Bestbuy so it will be going back either for a return or an exchange if it does not go away after a day or so..

If i have to wait for a new shipment i will and i will be opening it in the store at the service counter so i dont have to waste my time and gas going back and forth.

I would have opened it right there like i have done in the past for other things but i just wanted to get the heck out of there because it was a madhouse :).

Unless it is REALLY bad, BB won't exchange it as they are very paranoid when it comes to these returns. if Apple doesn't see the flaw, then BB eats it. Maybe if this was the first few weeks with the iPad 1 you might have had some luck, but too many people returned, or tried to return, during the first version and kind of burned that bridge.

The white Ipad has less bleeding however the white bezel is very distracting when viewing web and photos. Will be taking both back when new shipments arrive. Thanks Apple

I'm seeing the same bleed pattern on mine as the pic that was posted, but I had to black the screen and sit in the dark. Didn't notice anything at all when using it normally. Hopefully it's not too bad when watching video.

Its not bad unless you have black edges showing. Some movies are not full frame and distracting. For the $$ should have minimal.

Mines bleeding in three places. (64GB black wifi.) Not for $700, thanks. I'm going to return it and I have a feeling it will take a while to replace.

My wife's iPad (1) has not a hint of bleeding. I will not settle for this--I shouldn't have to turn down the brightness, etc.

Agreed. SHould not have to turn down the brightness. Apple will be seeing a lot of returns. In the meantime I will use and abuse there product. Gives time to also w8 for screen saver from Ghost Armor

People keep saying this. It has NOTHING to do with how much money you've spent. You may still see light bleed on a high end $6K LCD television screen. Its simply the technology and how the screen goes together which is the issue. If you can't accept it, then you'll want to skip the iPad, and LCD televisions for that matter, until a more consistent technology is available.

I don't agree otherwise all Ipads would have bleeding. Should not be so noticeable. My buddies has ZERO

My wife has a first gen iPad with absolutely faultless black levels around every square inch of the border.

you can't expect a perfect screen but at the same time, it seems they changed their fault tolerance a bit too much. Faulty units are a fact of life for ANY manufactured item, but that's why inspections are needed to keep products that don't meet the standards from reaching shelves.

Guess you didn't read my post. I said that the technology is flawed due to the way that the panels are put together. You may get some good ones where the pressure and the way the panel fits together is perfect. But most of the time, it won't. This doesn't account for actual flaws of the panel in terms of dead, stuck, or pixels that won't block out the backlight.

Again, you are dealing with an imperfect technology. Although you may get perfection from time to time, to expect perfection is unrealistic. Doesn't have anything to do with how much money you've spent.

Why do you think companies like Samsung and Sony have put measures into place to prevent multiple returns? They outline how many stuck pixels are acceptable, where those pixels have to be, and clouding parameters. In no shape or form do they ever permit multiple returns because the panel is not perfect. They'd be out of business if that were the case. Apple is not far from that practice I presume.

I thought BB had a no questions asked - no restock fee - if so then who cares what the reason for return is?

Sorry for the quality but here is example of movie with bleed. Kind of distracting no. Much worse in person.. If everywhere on the screen I could understand, but isolated areas worse than others

Every iPad I've seen has had the backlight bleeding to some extent, including my first one. However, the bleeding on my iPad 2 is far worse and for $900 (w/ tax..) is pretty bad if you ask me...

Pressing on the bezel and side of the screen makes the left side bleed more/less depending where you're pressing. However the bleeding on the bottom, top, and right side doesn't change when applying pressure to the area at all.

This is bad.

Sorry I do agree about imperfect technology. Just frustrating when you expect it to preform without flaws.

I had this issue with my first ipad gen 1. I had to actually take it to two different Apple stores to get them to exchange it for me, but once exchanged the light bleed problem was gone.

Nice to see this is still a problem with the second gen as well. :p

I have faith apple will provide another ipad without the bleed or less of one. Gotta love returning to the store once more. Prob scam to make me buy more accessories :D

No they don't on iPads. I'm speaking from experience with multiple stores as I tried to simply exchange an iPad last year and was unable to do so due to their policy. You are better off buying from the Apple store. They are a little more understanding, at least for now. With all of the exchanges, some justified, some not, we'll eventually see them adopt a limited exchange policy. Apple can sell them as refurbs so they look at it a little differently than Best Buy.

I agree. That's why I went to exchange mine last year. Finally got a version that had a very slight bleed by the volume control. I kept it and didn't look back. I think that's all that you can realistically hope for. Although, when you do get a perfect one, its sweet.

If they dont allow exchanges then it will be a return for a full refund so no sweat off my back if it comes to that .

The bestbuy i frequent has always been very good about anything i return/exchange so i am not the least bit worried either way i have to go.

There were people returning the iPad 1 to purchase the 2 while we were standing inline actually so i guess every store is a little different plus being a silver member does not hurt either.

If the bleeding is bothering me that much in the next day or so i will explore all my options so its not a huge deal just more of a hassle really ..

I really hope that this backlight bleeding issue will somehow be fixed in the future. It is inmy view quite horrible to look it at while watching movies...

I'm shocked that this is a much bigger problem that I originally thought.

Also I'm so happy mine is fine. I'm at a friends looking at his in disbelief it's really bad. Apple said they would replace it, but not in the store due to shortages. So now he's got to start over with the waiting and charging his card again.

Yet that said it's the norm these days. Many of us have had to exchange our Apple products, I know I have. What a pain, not to mention it took over two months.

I remember when you got a usable one the first try. The good days at Apple.

Buncha complainers.

Just don't put dark stuff on the screen...

Or look away during those scenes.

Sheesh.
