I know the Nexus is not SAMOLED+, I did cover that in my post if you bothered to read it. And it blows me away compared to the iPhone 4S, sorry. That point remains firmly in the realm of opinions, you're allowed to yours, but you're not allowed to state it as fact.

And you are not allowed to state it as a fact either. Why bother to even say that? I already established they were opinions on both sides over whether the Nexus was so superior to the 4S.

And the way you responded with your SAMOLED comment implied you were referring to the Nexus (since that's what we were talking about). My sincerest apologies for misunderstanding you.

That is why I steered clear of opinions and presented areas the iPhone "caught up" or still needs to catch up. I presented my opinion only in reply to yours.

Opinions are not really up to debate. But the facts are : Apple have been adding features the competition already has in the last few years and those have been their featured features in keynotes and on their page.

They seem to be in catch up mode, pretty far from the "We're 5 years ahead of everyone else" claim Steve made in 2007. If it had even been remotely true, "everyone else" would be shipping the original iPhone today, which as we've seen, is pretty far from reality.

Nothing wrong with Apple doing its own thing and catching up. What is wrong is failing to admit it.

And what 'advantages' they have are just because the latest iPhone hasn't been released. .

That's the very definition of 'catch-up', my man. Also, even when the new one is released, let me know how it compares to JB and Google Now.

Graphics? The Galaxy Nexus has a PowerVR SGX 540 GPU. That is not even close to the PowerVR SGX 543MP2 in the iPhone 4S. This is one of those cases where a direct comparison is easy since both GPUs are produced by the same vendor. Are you sure you meant to say "Graphics"?

I've never heard about GPS response, maybe you have a link. LTE is a definite Nexus advantage for cellular. The CPU is 50% higher clocked but the device doesn't perform anywhere near 50% faster in tests that can be run on both- but I guess in theory that makes it "better". Yes, 0 shutter speed is one thing that makes a camera better, higher resolution and better low light performance is another, where the iPhone 4S comes out on top.

So you're saying... Samsung underclocked the Galaxy Nexus in error, and if only they had done what they should have, it would be even faster? Makes no sense. I guess Samsung should hire someone to use the "right kernel" because there are no tradeoffs to overclocking it, they just made a mistake.

And your remark about "retina technology", were we even discussing that? Or which technology Samsung uses? I didn't say the Nexus was a bad phone, I just don't personally see it as superior to the iPhone 4S, and I gave the reasons why I have that opinion.

Under clocking was by design. Its a Google Dev phone for a reason.

Btw. Intel under clocks their processors all the time.

Haha I know the clock speed it runs at was by intentional design. I'm just questioning the idea that being able to overclock it with a custom kernel should be cited as an advantage without even explaining what the drawbacks are- ie if there are none then why wasn't it clocked higher at the factory? And it's also interesting that iOS devices seem to perform pretty closely (at least in cases where a similar test exists for both devices) even in cases where there is a severe clock speed "disadvantage."

I would love to see iOS iPhone devices beat numbers like what I have produced which maintains strong battery life and stability of the hardware.

Yes... Perfect example is to show a benchmark which doesn't even exist for iOS as proof of the superiority of non-iOS hardware .

Here's at least one example of iOS Phone battery life in comparison to some popular Android devices though (YMM DEFINITELY Vary with these kinds of tests, but it compares Android to Android as well).

http://www.anandtech.com/show/5770/lava-xolo-x900-review-the-first-intel-medfield-phone/6

Notice the iPhone 4 and 4S are consistently near the top in every category except talk time. The larger battery in the next iPhone should really help even further.

Those categories only include web-browsing and the reason why iphone phones are in top categories is because it LACKS flash embedded.

That is the only reason why. It LACKS FLASH.

Personally, I prefer phones with flash-embedded than phone with no flash at all.

Nice. So it's further proof then that flash is a battery life hog. Usually people that come out in defense of Flash don't admit there are any downsides. I'd be interested though if the test Anandtech used included Flash sites. Something tells me they would've though of that :) And then, that doesn't account for the fact that there is a vast difference between the Android phones on that list even among those with roughly similar hardware to each other.

This argument will be moot soon enough since mobile Flash got the axe...

Just out of interest: Are you a software developer? Are you in favor of software patents?

The reason I'm asking is that I have yet to meet a software developer that is in favor of software patents. Most seem to think that they do more harm than good.

My patents are not in software but scientific hardware and process. Some have earned millions of dollars. I think most people don't like patents in their field because one is disappointed that another got there first; but are quite happy when they get their own patent approved.

In other words, all other patents are obvious, except for mine that are clearly original. :;) a very common viewpoint, and among those who never seek a patent :D

My view of software patents is mixed but the same as hardware: some are good and others are weak. You can't judge a patent by its title but only by its detailed claims.

I put 'advantages' in quotes because most of them are really just perceived. If you put up with android then you see them as advantages and if you are honest and have had both OSs it is obvious that the iPhone is better.

I even think the WP7.5 is better than android. Nobody is play catch up with Google's OS

iPhone works good enough for most of us. Hey only problem with most of these non IOS phones is the OS.

This is so subjective, yet presented as an objective fact, I don't even know where to begin. If you really believe what you just said, there's really something you need to learn about : You're not alone in the world.

Nobody is play catch up with Google's OS

Except Apple with iOS and the 2 last versions implementing basically every Android features they can get away with.

Have you actually used an Android device for more than 5 seconds before declaring it crap? Have you actually used one of the later revs, or were you trying Gingerbread?

As of this moment, Android is just as smooth as iOS, and just as stable. Comparing feature by feature, Android actually offers a little more than iOS.

And remember, perception works both ways.

Hmm "some devices" I guess? I haven't used Jellybean yet, but I don't think Ice Cream Sandwich is as smooth as iOS (then again neither do a lot of reviewers or Google considering they put more work into that for Jellybean). But it varies per device. Yesterday I used a Droid RAZR with ICS and the low frame rate scrolling in the browser was immediately noticeable. Not bad, but nowhere near as smooth as mobile Safari. And they still didn't fix that weird double tap to zoom on images where it doesn't fit them to the screen but instead just zooms up some amount and obscures 1/3 of the image (again, on that device at least, I haven't tried them all :) I ordered a Nexus 7, finally a chance to get an up to date, supported Android device without having to buy an expensive phone.

Yes....used all flavors of android (even the later versions)....lag is still there.

Interesting that you say just as smooth as IOS. (Guess google is still playing catch up)

That's nice. That's your experience. I have both an iPhone 4 and Samsung Skyrocket. My experience has been that the Skyrocket runs very smoothly. No lag. In fact - I have had a Skyrocket since 2/1 and have less lock ups, "glitches" and other issues than I have in the same time with my iPhone.

I guess people can have different experiences and your experience isn't the "rule" any more than mine would be. Right?

Then why do you have an iPhone?

Because I have an investment in iOS apps (both in development work I did and in paid games/applications) I wasn't ready to part with when my 3GS got long in the tooth. It works well enough, has an awesome SoC and is an all around great phone.

Get this : it doesn't have to be the best. I accept that. I see Android, and they get all sorts of cool stuff. I also get cool stuff from Apple. My friend has an Android phone, works well. My phone also works well.

Both platforms are good. All handsets sold these days can do things we wouldn't have imagined possible only a few short years ago. Why must there be a winner, a clear best ?

Well I love my phone and we have many apple devices in our home.

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

Its an epeen contest. Apple and Android fanboys duking it out. Each caters to their own specific lifestyles.

Exactly, but why would people want to compete in such a low form of subjective debate that has no end other than for a chance to frustrate the other party ? The problem is some people here really believe what they say and that theirs is the "Best" as if they had made the darn thing. Why the pride in a device you own ? Everyone else can plop down the cash and own it to, you're not special.

This is the kind of " brand loyalty " I do not understand in anyway shape or form. I think a little bit of it has to do with marketing. Or well. All of it.

Some people are loyal to a product for no good reason, me? No way.

As an example, right now I drive a 2010 Mercury Grand Marquis, because I wanted a full framed big V8 sedan.

Does that mean I go around saying " Oh my god Mercury is better than blah blah blah blah it must suck to own a not Mercury"

And if another car company makes something I like better, I'll trade in my Marquis for that car.

Its the same thing with me and these mobile devices, I'm not ' loyal ' to Android or iOS, and I think its silly anyone is ' loyal ' to anything they bought.

Your right, some people here take pride in a device they plopped down some cash for, when they had nothing to do with its development, then they defend it and call everything else crap for no reason I can think of.

I've said it before all over this fourm, I carry an Android Device as my personal phone, and my company gave me an iPhone. I carry them both at the same time more often than not. I find iOS and Android to both be good platforms, and I can't say I've ever had a problem with either of them. My samsung did crap out once, though that MIGHT have had something to do with it falling out of my pocket onto my propane grill ;)

Did you eat it afterwards? How was it?

Pretty yummy, lucky for me I had the extended battery on the back of it, so I found the old cover and battery, took it back to the store and said " Idk?! Its broken! No damage?!?!?!?!? AHHHHH! "

Sure its only a 300 dollar phone new, but saving 300 was still nice lol.
