honestly dude.. u need to relax... youre kinda going psycho... over a phone... you were mean to people that possibly honestly didnt know whats going on... over a phone...

It is beyond ridiculous to critique someone else's reactions to an issue based solely on how you would handle the situation "in their shoes." Really now, it's akin to me telling a parent who lost their child to "stop whining" just because I don't really care that much about kids.

To the original poster, sorry that happened. You should definitely contact Apple Customer Service and describe to them the problem in n a less-brash fashion, as you will likely receive the desired help from that end.

So AT&T screwed up first, but you went ballistic in the Apple Store? I think its possible you were lucky not to be arrested. I feel for your situation but your handling of the whole thing was not very good and very immature. You may want to learn how to pick which battles to fight. The Apple person was trying to help you, you decided to be belligerent at that point instead of taking the help, who's fault is that? I'd ban you from my store too.

WOW this is a WAY OFF analogy

It was purposefully exaggerated to highlight the ludicrousness of telling a stranger exactly how much importance they should place on something of interest to them.

All that very second after I finished speaking, the security guard was standing behind me, and after hearing me say it in a not so friendly tone, they said I was causing an issue and that I needed to leave the store. I asked to speak with another manager, who then told me that I declined the 10% discount and wouldn't be getting it, and that now I'm banned from the Apple store... wow, really?

NO SOUP FOR YOU!

(Sorry had to lighten the mood a bit.. but hope it works out for you.)

Yeah. You picked the wrong day of the year to start a fight at the apple store. Every bouncer in the country had a job yesterday.

well if you are really pissed and u havent cooled down yet, then you could always file a complain with the BBB. Big corporations like apple and microsoft hate it when they get a complain filed against them. So if you feel like it would help your situation then go ahead. I have done it 4 times with microsoft and they fixed my xbox 360 for me for free everytime, so maybe you will get a nice discount?

uhm....

Immaturity is a bitch.
That's the life lesson here.

To get tossed from an Apple Store has to take some major work. Those folks are screened and taught to be the best retail folks period.

You saw that as weakness and thought you could treat them like mommy.
Mommy did you a disservice and now you have to learn the lesson.

Better late than never.

(btw I stopped by the AT&T store day before launch to ask about extra stock. They asked about my status and I told them I had the green light. I checked both with AT&T and Apple's website to confirm it first.)

I honestly have no idea why people are so blindly protecting Apple in this scenario - I'd personally like to think that Apple's customer services is next to none - as they have always been extremely polite to me here, but clearly in this case the OP has been taken for a ride.

You are absolutely entitled to complain here and I think that anyone who says otherwise seriously needs to reconsider their blind loyalty to Apple.

Write to Steve Jobs and make sure this doesn't rest..
It's not blind faith, it's being a decent human being. I probably would have cried if he had yelled at me when I had little idea what was going on. First rule about negotiating is not raising your voice.

I think he was right to say that, based on the situation the OP described he indeed needed to relax. It's not something he said on how the importance was to him. It was based of that if he HAD relaxed, paced the situation out, and not raised his voice nor caused a scene, them people at apple would have gotten to the bottom of his situation and rather than kick him out. Even if he asked *nicely* for the 15% he might have received it.

But he said
it in a not so friendly tone

The best thing he could have done in that situation was calm down, return voice to normal, apologize to the apple staff, and kindly ask a manager "based off what I experienced here today, could you please add an additional 5% discount"

I would recommend you go back the the store and apologize, who knows they might recognize your feelings and give you a 3GS

You're entitled an iPhone the day it comes out. In fact, because they didn't give you want you want, you should get a free phone. Go back and demand satisfaction. It's guaranteed to work.

This obviously goes beyond the phone. The whole situation is ridiculous.

I thought of something else that may be useful. My experience that it is much harder for companies to offer discounts than it is to offer merchandise. For example, a 10% discount on $399 is $39. Instead of trying to negotiate a $40 discount, ask for a free case or headphones or whatever. You may come out a little ahead or a little behind, but in either case you got what you wanted (a bottom line discount) and you don't get banned.

I have a co-worker who is frugal past the point of common sense. He will walk away from a good deal because he wants more. In the example above after being given a discount he would try to get a free case. Guess what? He usually gets neither.

Despite the bashing the OP takes here it was a good lesson learned.

Trust me, I'm one of the most laid back people you'll ever meet. I was working with the same managers that knew about the issue the first day. My intentions weren't to be mean, it's the fact that I wasted all that time for something I pre-ordered the day after it was announced. Call me a fanboy, whatever :) ... I Think it's the fact that AT&T and Apple operate as each other's agents, and the systems they use suck. It's mostly the computer's fault, not any particular person, but I'm just pissed I had to go through it. I usually don't like people who whine and cry about iPhone features, etc... but being "banned" for 1 day from the store... that's a pretty mature way to deal with an issue.

Something tells me you're the problem here.

hahaha I was venting my anger at that point, but apparently I was too much for Apple to handle and they had the security guard follow me to the other manager. They just didn't want to deal with the problem, and yes it's retail, but come on, selling an iPhone can't be THAT hard, to coordinate with AT&T... I'm just glad the ****ed up activated one they used a new SIM and not the 3G connected to my account now.

Email this to :

someone from corporate relations will probably get back to you.

PS.

Don't swear in the email.

Thanks, I'll do that. The MacRumors version was definitely a vent session hahaha.

he needs to remember that its just a phone.. some material object that will be obsolete in two years... think about your conscious...

No...

\Call me a fanboy, whatever :) ...

hahaha I was venting my anger at that point,

No, just an immature boy.

(Notice how he illuminates the truth more but doesn't listen. Must be habitual.) Imagine dealing with his laid back "attitude" over hours.

Head first through the window would probably have been a more helpful exit from the Apple Store. Wonder how many customers he disrupted with his "laid back" way?
