For what it's worth, OP, i think all the posters in here are a bunch of jackasses. I would be just as fuming mad as you are if that had happened to me (and i'm sure everyone in here who is judging you and being generally condescending toward you - they'd all be pissed to).

As you said in your post, there's not much you can do but send your story to the BBB and consumerist.com. I'd also try calling apple customer care and telling them what happened. They might be able to do something for you. Doubtful, but possible.

This is unfortunately, the problem with Apple/AT&T essentially having a monopoly on the best phone out there with the best smartphone software. Somehow, I'm guessing that if the phone were sold by other carriers, everyone's customer service would start to improve.

Imagine spending 5 hours in a store, not getting something you've been looking forward to, then going back the next day to get screwed again. If Apple talked to AT&T, and they confirmed that he was eligible for subsidized pricing, I don't see what the problem is. Someone either didn't want to do their job or didn't know how to do it.

Should have settled for the 10% discount..

No he shouldn't have. He's eligible for subsidized pricing, why would he pay $200 more and settle for a measly 10% off?

(Notice how you're wrong) It's not my fault Apple and AT&T can't figure out how to activate and upgrade my iPhone, I was perfectly calm and even apologized to the manager about the comment, they just flat out didn't want to deal with it, sending me back again to AT&T to deal with the issue. Thankfully the Store Manager there seems like a nice person and knew my situation and was going to fix the issue...

So next time before you decide to "illuminate truths" maybe you shouldn't jump to conclusions without all the details. thanks for trying.

I have to agree with you. Too often people on MacRumors will side with corporations. I don't think they understand that it isn't going to get them anything special. SJ isn't going to show up at your house and give you the next gen iPhone for free.

Stand by your fellow MacUsers and not Apple!

I also agree going to BBB and The Consumerist. As soon as I read this, I was thinking of a Executive Carpet Bomb! Send out a few emails. What's the worse that could happen?

You have to decide which lie you are going with. When you went off "haha" as you put it or now with your "perfectly calm" claim.

When you lie it's important to stick with the one and not change it.

A system error is a company problem. How you reacted to it is yours.
