I think that is true of just about every product discussed here, Apple’s or anyone else’s. People say AirPods suck and have never even seen them let alone tried them. Ditto for HomePod or whatever.

And the same for Android, Alexa, Microsoft, etc. Someone plays with an Android phone for 30 seconds and says it sucks. They’ve never owned one or learned the OS.
A bit easier to define if the HomePod will work for one then the other devices listed. In my case, need a TV quality sound system in the living room. Today HomePod will not fill that need. Will HomePod integrate with my current TV system, No. Adding additional rooms, yes HomePod will do that. However I will need two seperate Apps to make it happen. As you can see, today HomePod purchase evaluation not that difficult. All that without even hearing the device, which I have and agree it sounds good. Future, looks good for the HomePod if the rumors of how Apple will develope the HomePod are correct. HomePod may just be part of my music systems future.

A question for AirPod owners, as I can’t go and try them in my ear lugs! How close is the fit to the standard earphones Apple supplies?

I’m surprised no one responded to this yet, but I feel like they fit a little better, probably due to them being a smidge heavier each. I’m pretty sure the shape is the same.

I’ve not had any problems with them falling out either by walking or running with them.

Had Homepod for a few days, and couldn't wait to return it, whereas Alexa can control my Logitech hub, Nest thermostat and a few other peripherals. All it has going for it is small speaker sound quality. Apple has a long development road ahead before it reaches the current intelligence of Google/Amazon.

So it won’t do what you need/want it do. It’s not a product for you, but that doesn’t mean it sucks for someone who buys it for what it is capable of doing.

Have yet to see anyone wearing those cigarette butts in public. If it's really true people are buying them then they must be using them in private.

I just ran a marathon with 30,000 people in it. There were THOUSANDS of people using airpods. You really need to get out. The only thing that's keeping more people from using them is supply.

Got my HomePod on Day 1 and have thoroughly enjoyed it everyday since. In fact the entire family loves being able to play music on it at anytime, including my 6 year old granddaughter (I made a playlist for her so she just needs to ask Siri to play it). I think a lot of people who complain about the HomePod would have a different opinion if they actually used or owned one.

I've listened to it in the store, it sounds great. Just don't have any use for it.

Can't imagine why anyone wouldn't want this entirely competent assistant for the low price of $350

On my CarPlay the other day I said "Hey Siri, call Subway".... She responded "I found this subway 1.2 miles from you. Let me know if you would like to call or get directions". So I said "call"... no response. I held down the home button again and said "call". She said "who would you like to call?". I truly love my iPhone, but Siri has been around for what... 7 years now... and she's still a dumbass.

I can understand the premise here, but really if money was no object we'd have both of these. AirPods are great for working out and casual, private listening. HomePod is great for experiencing amazing audio for those with Apple Music subscriptions or willing to punch audio through their iPhones.

Really a huge reason AirPods are doing better is the price ... because money is an object. I sprung $159 for AirPods because I knew I'd use them for 100% of their features and they'd work well. I won't spend $349 on a speaker that while having amazing sound quality, only works with specific platforms (AirPlay excepted) and is way more costly than equitable competitors. The value-add here isn't worth the added cost right now.

I have argued in the past about the homepod and how it won't be "magical" as Apple would advertise. It has small speaker sound. Anyone who enjoys mediocre to even high quality music already, will not replace their speakers with a Homepod. And the decision to get one is even more limited if you are not all-in with Apples Ecosystem, or if you have used products from Google/Amazon, or have a preexisting sound system already. Form > Functionality is just not the way to go with technology in my opinion.

I know that Steve Jobs would have created a much better product, as he at least would have sound quality in mind.

I'd consider the HomePod if it had Digital audio input and I could use 2 of them as Stereo Speakers for my TV/Audio System.

Unfortunately, this thing has no wired audio inputs at all. Lol not buying this. Nice try Apple. Keep trying. Maybe someday you'll get it "right".

Are you kidding? They are everywhere in the UK.

Agree, I never said it was a bad choice for anyone. You implied that without trying how can one know if they like it. In the case of the HomePod, rather easy, my response.

Apple bet too much on pitching Steve's legacy and branding but speakers are like fridges. No one is going to throw out a perfectly working fridge for another that's smaller, limited and more expensive. This is what happens when you have too much profit and crack.
Good point. Especially when the Apple Fridge (TM) can only hold groceries bought from the Apple Grocery Store (TM).

It's a hard sell.

I have a lot of Apple products, but I have no interest in the HomePod. I never use Siri, so I don't want a device that's a "Siri machine". I also have a perfectly good stereo-setup that I'm not looking to replace.

Just a question, as I do not know this: can you use Amazon Echo or Google Home's speakers this way, as TV/AV speakers?

If you have an Apple TV connected to your TV, at least in that case you can use HomePod as the speaker for that AV system.

Luckily that technology exists in the cloud, not on the device itself, so when Apple upgrades Siri all HomePods benefit by default (with updates to the software and/or firmware of course).

We are almost totally tied into Apple at my house, iPhones, iPads, Watch, Apple TV, iMacs and laptops and there is one word for my lack of interest in HomePod - Siri. I find it absolutely useless, to the point where I have now disabled it on all my devices. I paid for an Echo and an Amazon music sub even though I already have Apple Music purely because I cannot get Siri to recognise and play what I want.

They sort Siri out, I will start looking at HomePod again

For all the technology in a HomePod, I cannot understand why people consider the price of $349 too steep.

Perhaps Apple is overlooking something in their marketing / communication about the HomePod.

Perhaps it's in some ways a product still in progress: there will be software updates. For inputs, the current HomePod is what it is: it's meant for the Apple ecosystem (Apple Music, Apple TV, HomeKit).

As such – being all-in in the Apple ecosystem – I find HomePod to be a bargain for all that it is.

I meant people who simply said something sucked or wasn’t any good without trying it. You provided reasons why you didn’t like it. Many here say something sucks because it runs Android, or it is made by Samsung, etc etc.

I certainly see them more and more on the street. So much that I don't think they look funny at all anymore. I rarely wear mine out because I am paranoid about losing them and just use a cheap pair of Sumpan:

Apple is taking too long to release the new AirPods w/wireless charging case! They should have never mentioned that an update was coming -- nobody likes vapor w/out launch dates.

I can't wait for the Black Friday when Home Pods are on sale for $75.00.
When has an Apple product in its first year ever been 75% discounted?

lol. What a shocker. An overpriced speaker that can only do a third more then a regular speaker and 2/3rds less than Google or Amazon can for 5x the price. Who would of thought!
Did you even read the article? They later admitted they actually have no idea how many have been sold.

Fake news.
