So what's the standard for PED users? Don't go scorched Earth with the media? Ortiz tested positive, never owned up to it. Only difference is he didn't go to war against everyone denying it. Per my personal belief, that would be grounds for not getting voted in.

Even ignoring the PED issue, I don't think Ortiz was worthy of first ballot.

Absolutely... Bonds and Clemens never tested positive, but were under suspicion (heavy if you will) but still never tested positive. And what was the rule at the time they played?

Can I just say, it might be time to do a way with these folks who do the voting?

I saw David Ortiz play many times. I saw Roger Clemens play many times as well. I would vote Clemens over Ortiz all day long. Taking nothing away from Ortiz, Clemens was one of the dominant pitchers not just of his time but ever -- even early in his career before the speculation about PED. I remember seeing him strike out 20 players in one game -- not once but twice. I can only conclude that these sports writers voting for the HOF are a bunch of know nothings.
