I could care less who wins the NL east as long as the team isn't the 82-80 Padres of last year.

How much less could you care, if you really tried?

BTW, in the FWIW file, it seems likely at this point that opening day in LA (vs. Atlanta) will be rained out. I wonder if this has ever happened before?

I don't think Minnesota has what it takes to get past the White Sox this year, Until the Twins prove themselves I will give the edge to the White Sox.

Yeah, I f'ed that one up. However, you really think the Giants are a WS caliber team?

No. Here's my reasoning too: First off, they're in the NL, usually an inferior league, but that's besides the point. They don't have the depth of the cards, chiSox or Astros. They also don't have the coaching and the young talent found in the braves.

What they do have is an amazing hitter* (*grain of salt so far). There are better options to find a NL WS team.

I think, as I said before, the Giants problems are staying healthy over 162 games. They have an extremely old, but very talented team. Besides having the best hitter in baseball, they have an very talented supporting cast. That is true in the most important of places - the starting pitching. Schmidt and Morris are a great 1-2 punch and Lowry has the most devastating change up I've seen in years. Add Cain and others to the mix and, yes, this club will contend for the NL West title (with the Dodgers their main competition) and if they can make it to the post season, they match up well in a seven game series against any of the likely contenders. Now, will they stay injury free enough to do all of that? I admit to a lot of worry on that score. But, hey, this is spring and hope is in the air.

Play Ball!!!! the first game of the season starts tonight.:) Cleveland vs Chicago.

Or the Indians. We can't forget how close they came to stealing the Central from Chicago toward the end of last season.

A lot of that was because the White Sox over did themselves and started to run out of gas near the end.

Its that wonderful time of year, opening day everyone has hopes of the playoffs, all the teams are equal and all of us fans have hopes for a good season. Did anyone see Schillings performance today? It was nearly perfect until that cheap shot over the wall (my jaw dropped when it went over the fence). Besides that he was nearly perfect, not allowing anyone past 2nd base and 5 k's. Talk about a complete turn around since last year.

Arod goes boom with a grand slam over the fence, and Zito is out of the game in the 2nd.:D

Looks like the yanks are ready to get things going. Now to see how the rest of the rotation looks.

So I just watched ESPN and saw the Giants/Padres game. Let me first just say that I do not like Barry Bonds at all. Even before the steriod scandal, ever since I knew about him and how he was. But people are bring this too far. Throwing a syringe? Give me a break. And I am so sick of hearing about it. As much as I hate him, I wish it would stop. The "Trade Barry" billboard is humorous. But the signs at the park are just dumb. I know that the Padres and Giants are a big rivalary but still. Just thought I would say that. Give up on the Barry thing. Lets just focus on the wonderful sport.

Astros squeak by again

Continuing their rousing support of excellent starting pitching, the Astro's last night scored a whopping 1 run for Oswalt. Luckily he's the man, and that was enough. Sheesh, looks like the offense is really geared up for the season. I hope we do more against the Marlins today...

I think I heard somewhere that Dodger Stadium has only had about a dozen rainouts in its 44 years. It didn't happen Monday, but the "forecasters" claim it will be rainy through Wednesday.

It poured down rain pretty much all afternoon here, and I'm only about 50 miles away from Dodger Stadium as the crow flies. I don't know how they got that game in yesterday. Today is an even more likely rain-out. I have tickets to Wednesday's game, so I'm hoping it lets up by then. That's the current forecast, anyway.
