Looks like the yanks are ready to get things going. Now to see how the rest of the rotation looks.
Moose usually plays well against the As. Great start from the Big Unit and what a tough line up to pitch against; I pity whoever is going up against that line-up provided they stay healthy all season long.

It poured down rain pretty much all afternoon here, and I'm only about 50 miles away from Dodger Stadium as the crow flies. I don't know how they got that game in yesterday. Today is an even more likely rain-out. I have tickets to Wednesday's game, so I'm hoping it lets up by then. That's the current forecast, anyway.

I live about 60 miles east of the Ravine. There were a few drizzles last night, but that's about it. The ground has been dry since then. With that kind of variation, they might get the next two games in after all.

I'm in the other direction, Ventura County. We were in a perfect position to catch this one (over two inches since yesterday). But don't get your hopes up for tonight. The current NWS forecast for downtown LA:

.TODAY...CLOUDY WITH RAIN DEVELOPING AND BECOMING HEAVY AT TIMES IN THE AFTERNOON. HIGHS IN THE 50S. SOUTH WINDS AROUND 15 MPH.
.TONIGHT...RAIN...HEAVY AT TIMES. A SLIGHT CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS. LOWS IN THE MID 40S TO LOWER 50S. SOUTH WINDS AROUND 15 MPH.

If Zito pitches the season like he did last night it will be a rough season for Oakland. Granted he wont face a lineup like that every start but at least try to have some pitch control.

Because opening day is such a strong indicator of the regular season as a whole.

On the other hand, Rodriguez did hit a grand slam in a game in which the Yankees didn't need it, so....

Am I the only person that doesn't think the A's are going that far? I've been saying that around here for a couple weeks while ESPN gives them such great prospect.

The fact is they have been strip mining their team for years now and without a powerhouse hitter, they don't really belong in the top ranks of the AL. Maybe I'm wrong, but this predicition seems ... far fetched....

In all reality, I see the Angels pulling off a much better season.

Oh yeah, as a side note, once again (looking at mlb.com made me think of this), the MVP of the league puts up numbers when it doesn't count. Let's see if he can consistantly perform when a game is on the line.

well when Ortiz can field a few balls and help the team with defense then we will consider him.

Don't take much you hear from ESPN seriously, after all they think that Barry Bonds is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Is anyone going to watch this stupid Bonds on Bonds show. ESPN needs to stop kissing butt to the athletes and report on them.

Wish that was true (the "sliced bread" part.) I watched "Bonds on Bonds" and found it compelling, but let's keep the Barry trashing to the other thread and keep this one about stuff on the field, ok? Nice win for the Yanks yesterday, MacNut.

I agree no Barry Bashing here, but Red sox bashing is ok, they are losing 7-0:D

Oh boy, the yankees fans are back. How long are you guys going to post every 20 minutes during a game? 2, 3 weeks? Then the bandwagon falls apart for the entire summer (maybe a little party around the break) before the big reunion of sept. Is that how it goes?

There are still 160 more games to go people (well, MacNut specifically), so multiple bashing updates per game isn't necessary. Now when a team goes on a serious slide, then we can start a little commentary over the fact.

Its a Yankees thing. You wouldn't understand. When the Red Sox are doing bad at anything we must point it out. It is just the norm. And vice versa for them.

I see you are from Washington. Nice.

Ohh nice avatar where did you find it.

update: Wakefield just gave up a 3 run homer.
Just searched google. I thought it would look good and stand out too. There a few other good ones too.

How dare you, not even then can you consider a red sock a MVP!

tough loss tonight for the yanks. Was only able to follow online, but Proctor just got in didnt he?

Proctor was away for all of spring training as his infant daughter was very ill. He had not been on the mound much before tonight's start so he was a little shaky. It was reported tho that his daughter is doing much better so that is why he returned to the team.

I would rather lose tonight's game then to lose some players in the rain as the field would go down hill fast if this game went into extra innings, they say the field cant hold water very well and they have been getting a lot of rain that the field cant handle. They would of called the game or kept playing and this early in the season its not worth the injuries.

A big question of who should catch Wakefield, I saw a lot of balls hit the backstop tonight.

Pettite struggling

So it looked like Andy needs a bit of rust remover, since he was really serving up some pitches to the Marlins last night. I wanted the Astros to be in some higher scoring games than Opening Night, but this wasn't what I bargained for. Let's hope the bats can warm up a bit.

Yankees' stadium plan clears city council hurdle

NEW YORK -- The City Council on Wednesday approved several key aspects of the New York Yankees' plan to build an $800 million stadium next door to the team's historic home.

The 45-2 vote clears the way for some of the team's land-use plans, including the use of two public parks as a site for the new stadium.

"This is a day to celebrate," said Councilman Oliver Koppell, who noted that only a few years ago the team was talking about leaving the Bronx. "The Yankees, for the foreseeable future, for our children and our grandchildren, will be the Bronx Bombers."

It has been only 10 months since the Yankees unveiled the plans for the new ballpark; the project has moved with blazing speed.

Wednesday's vote came only a few hours after the transaction was approved by the council's land use committee. The council's finance committee is scheduled to consider on Monday whether to help finance the stadium by issuing tax-exempt bonds.

So what happens to the House that Ruth Built? Is it turned into a museum, or does it get demolished?
Its going to be turned into parkland to replace the land that will be taken to build the new stadium. After 2009 it for the most part wont exist anymore.:(

Might the Red Sox be rethinking this now...

Arroyo got the loudest and longest ovations Wednesday -- and a respectful bow from Griffey -- in a successful Cincinnati debut. He pitched into the seventh inning and hit his first career homer in his first at-bat, leading the Reds to an 8-6 victory over the Chicago Cubs.

Granted, I really enjoyed watching arroyo pitch, he wasn't the strongest member of the staff and was by far the easiest to trade (smaller contract). The NL is also generally a much easier league for pitchers and when a pitcher goes from the AL to the NL, they usually have much better success. The sox had an abudance on the pitching staff and an injury prone outfielder (trot recently).

His homerun today was quite impressive and I hope he produces a few more, but I think it's safe to assume that with a .074 batting average, of course it can only go up from there. His trade, Pena, hit a nice double RBI in his season debut last night, also not a bad start.

Now on a different note, the ChiSox/Cleveland game today was a lot of fun to watch at work, really one of those down to the wire nail biters.

Truely sad that they are doing this. But times are changing. I am just glad that I have been able to go there and enjoy a game (they beat Boston, couldn't have asked for more). You can count on my owning a piece of Yankee Stadium (the house that Ruth Built).

After a opening day loss and a rain out in sunny San Diego, the Giants finally win one. They scared me, but Morris pitched well in his debut. Bravos tomorrow.
