And teal if you screen name means anything (sorry, they didn't make it to the finals.) I do realize there are those unfortuante, misguided folks who have been raised as A's fans, but there is still time to see the light. :D

PS - don't you dare say anything about 1989!!! ;)

After that abysmal performance by the Sharks against Edmonton, it's a good thing the season ticket order from won't arrive for a few more months.

1989? Someday the Giants will have a championship trophy like the ones the A's have over in Oakland..... :D

all he needs now is 756 home runs and nobody will dispute him being the greatest of all time...

i will.

steroids can make a person get a great boost and hit a lot in a season, but does it work long term also?

it's the other way around. the steroids have very little to do with his amazing seasons, his amazing talent does. in 2001 it probably gave him an extra 10 jacks that might have been flyouts, whatever.

the major point about what the steroids do IS for the long term; they keep him healthy. now you see he's off of them, and he's breaking down, and his average/overall hitting is deteriorating because of it.

i do not think that taking steroids can in any way do anything for a player's batting average. maybe it'll give you a few extra hits that wouldn't have made it through a gap, but then again it probably kills a few because you get too far out in front of a ball.

all it's been doing for barry is keeping him healthy so his natural talent can be what's coming into play, and now that he doesn't ahve that, you see how barry should have been starting to look 2-3 years ago.

the ny giants baseball team has a full handful of rings (as does bosox), the cardinals have nearly two handfuls, and the yankees have enough to make a necklace ;)

the san francisco giants may never get a ring, ever...or so it seems...they have the #3 home run hitter of all time, one hitter tied for #2, and more hall of fame members than any team (ny and sf teams), but the sf version of the team still does not have a world series ring

heck, a canadian baseball team will win back to backs again before san francisco gets their first baseball ring ;)

Tell him how you really feel, and say a Cuban team will win back to back.

major league baseball is a conglomeration of cuban, dominican, korean, and japanese players...and sometimes someone born here is good enough ;)

Please allow me to amend my previous comment -- I only intended to compare the A's since they moved to Oakland in 1968 and the Giants since they moved to San Francisco in the mid-1950s (1956?). :D No sense in going into the Philadelphia and Kansas City A's dynasties. :)

i hope you consider the one la raiders superbowl win an acceptable ring for us bay area sports fans to relish ;)

Pujols is on pace to hit 206 RBI's ... that guy is insane!

He's amazing alright... but have you had a look at what Garciaparra is doing in LA this season? As of this morning, his average is something like .365. Perhaps not as much power as the Nomar of old, but I think he might be swinging the bat even better now than when he won those titles.

Nomar certainly is en fuego! The way he's been seeing the ball the last two weeks, and his (right now) near perfect mechanics. Every @ bat is a potential game momentum swinger.

He's leading the charge for certain, but the entire team is swinging well now. Dodger fans are unused to seeing their team win by scoring so many runs. They completely knocked the stuffing out of the Angels this weekend.

Just teasin' you two! I'm still bitter over my Sharks pathetic exit from the playoff this year and am clinging to some kind of sports glory through the A's past successes.... HA!

Man, why did you say that out loud? You know it's not gonna last.

I'd take Pujols over NOMAR no matter how the season ended ... Nomar could win the triple crown this season ... actually I would take D. Lee over Nomar as well. I loved nomar, he was a good cub, but he's not the kind of guy I think you can count on.

I think you meant to say Pujols could win the Triple Crown.

I am glad to see Nomar is at it again. His past few years have been terrible, and he used to be an considered one of the best SS with Jeter of our time.

I would love to see someone win the Triple Crown this year. It would be amazing to be able to watch that. Pulojs would be my number one pick for that.

So how about the Yankees and Sox tonight. It might be nice to see the Yanks win a series against them this time.

Sorry, you don't get a choice. ;)

Really, you don't. Besides, I'm only pointing out something that many baseball fans might not have noticed. Amid all this talk about Barry Bonds and Albert Pujols, it might be easy to overlook some of other players who are out there really performing. I don't know if Garciaparra can keep it up, but if he can, he's in really rarified territory with that average and OBP. Right now, he's great fun to watch, especially since so many people counted him out years ago.

Well, I had my money on Barbaro, so it only goes to show what I know. ;)

I don't have tickets to the St. Louis series, but I'll be watching to see, among other things, just how good Albert looks. What I don't understand is why anyone is pitching to him. I wouldn't pitch to him with the game on the line unless I had no other choice.

MacNut, I appreciate your loyalty to your team and a record held by a great Yankee,
1) Babe Ruth hasn't held the record in quite some time.
2) (If you were somehow referring to Pete Rose, he was never a Yankee, and played his entire career in the NL)

As for Barry beating Hank, it's not gonna happen. He's too old, and is swinging almost completely from his upper body. Unless his knees can somehow heal by next season, (he's not going to get 40+ this season, but Pujols will if he keeps his current rate up  ) which I doubt.

edit:Heh, just checked the Skanks/Sox score after posting. I was expecting it to be 1-0 still, or maybe 1-1, but not 4-1! :D

Crap, I think I just blew the game for the Sox. :(

I meant NOMAR, Nomar could win the triple crown this year and to me he would still be less valuable than pujols. I was saying that right now the short term doesn't really compensate for all the nomar injuries I ended dealing with. I love the guy and he's one of my favorites in baseball ... as is Ken Griffey Jr. ...

1) depends on what record you are referring to, doesn't it? Barry and the Babe are currently tied as the all-time left-handed homerun hitters. Hoping Barry breaks it tonight.

2) Nope, Rose has no place in the discussion.

3) I agree Barry is very unlikely to pass Aaron this year. Always was a long shot for this season, and is especially so now with Barry's slow start. Will he play another year and have a shot to pass the Hammer? Check back in August and we will have a better idea if that's possible.
