I meant NOMAR, Nomar could win the triple crown this year and to me he would still be less valuable than pujols. I was saying that right now the short term doesn't really compensate for all the nomar injuries I ended dealing with. I love the guy and he's one of my favorites in baseball ... as is Ken Griffey Jr. ...

I don't get it. Are you saying, because he disappointed you years ago by getting injured, that now you don't even want to see him come back?

Years ago? Last year and the year before isn't that long ago.

I don't want to see him come back to my team.

My point is that I wish the guy the best of luck, but no matter what he does, he's still just injury prone nomar to me.

2) Nope, Rose has no place in the discussion.
The place Rose has in the discussion is simple, If and when Barry Bonds is inducted into the Hall Of Fame the writers and the league would be hypocritical to keep Pete Rose out. If it is proven that Bonds cheated his way to the top and the commissioner doesn't ban him from the game then Pete Rose better be reinstated.

They are only 1-5 against the Sox. Not bad, eh?

It's only 1-4, the second game got rained out. Anyways, I'm loving this. There was a nice article in the globe today about the downfall of the yankee's.

I don't know if Id call it a downfall since a good portion of the team is injured. They do need to start hitting and the pitching is less then desirable.

I understand what you're saying, and I'm aware of his long history of injuries, but he's hardly alone in that category. The Dodgers signed him for only one year partially on that account. The gamble is paying off big time for now, and if he does get hurt again, they've got other options.

I don't see how it will be proven without a doubt that Bonds ever cheated. Even if a video turns up showing Bonds looking at the camera while injecting himself and saying "Damn, steroids sure are great!", he still never failed a drug test showing he violated any baseball rule. Technically he didn't cheat.

This is baseball's fault for implicitly encouraging steroid use for so long. Not that I'm defending Bonds, but pretty much every team was winking at the players with a "do steroids if that's what you have to do but don't tell us about it" nod. In contrast, the rules prohibiting betting on baseball games are clear, harsh, and posted in every clubhouse. Like I said I'm not one to defend Bonds, but from a strict cheating point of view, it's not an easy comparison.

Was Pete Rose ever caught betting during his playing days or just his managing days. If he wasn't found to be betting on games he was playing in then I see no problem in his numbers going into the hall. That is were the difference with Bonds is the records were tainted during his playing days not if he ever becomes a manager.

I think it was in his managing days ... and a manager can throw a game much easier than a third baseman ...

I wish I knew dusty was gambling against the cubs ... atleast that would make some of his decisions make sense to me.

So then based on playing days, who deserves the Hall Of Fame more Pete Rose or Barry Bonds?

Baseball rules make no distinction about whether you bet on games in which you're involved. The rules say you can't bet on baseball games at all, or fraternize with people who do.

Maybe its time to amend the rules to be if anyone is caught using or willingly witnessed someone to use performance enhancing drugs that they are banned from the game as well.

I agree...100%. Even if my baseball hero himself was PROVED to be using steroids, I'd want him kicked out of the park that day.

However, it's hard to prove anything. The current system isn't good, I think what you proposed is much better. Baseball doesn't need a he said - she said thing going on every night either.

How about that Matt Clement, He's the best thing to happen to the Red Sox since Bill Buckner.:p

also Randy Johnson FINALLY pitched a good game.:)

Clemans is maybe the biggest sellout in the history of baseball, He would of gone where ever the biggest offer and sweetest deal was. If he thinks he's gonna get the Astros to the World Series he's nuts.

Now, that is funny coming from a Yankee fan. The Yankees have been filled with these type players, including Clemens, for years. Glad to see Clemens back in the game myself. Especially because the Giants don't face the Astros anymore this season.

Are you saying right now that the Giants wont make the playoffs and you wont see Clemens in the post season.:)

I can't wait to see the look on Roger's face when the Astros fall 10 games back and miss the playoffs, Then he watches the Yankees and Red Sox battle it out again in the ALCS.:p

The Dodgers are through with them too, at least for the regular season. ;)

I thought Clemens played an odd game of footsie with his old team. I don't recall anyone "coming out of retirement" in mid-season before.

As for excitement, I'm naturally far more thrilled to have Eric Gagne back.

I think I said this was going to happen about 12 pages ago. This basically enforces the idea that he can't pitch in a DH league anymore.

Ben

I don't think it's a matter of staying in the NL. I think it's a matter of Clemens sticking with the team that gave him more perks last year than maybe any player ever. He travels with the team if he feels like it, has his own schedule, and can jerk several teams around for half a season until he feels like playing. He may be the best pitcher of the last 50 years, but he's probably the most selfish player I've ever seen.
