Hopefully it'll bring a Cardinal's win.
Carpenter should be rested. Hopefully he has his stuff going. Cards will face another Lefty in Nate Robertson.

One last thing on the Kenny Rogers spin, I just listened to an interview with Tony LaRussa about it. He says he spoke to the ump about it the first inning and said, if it's not taken care of then he'd take it to another level, but he wasn't interested in taking action to "undress a pitcher" over it. I was satisfied he handled it the best way for all involved and, though the spin has gone on for a couple of days extra because of the night off, I think game three will put it behind, at least until a game 6, if it goes that far.

Cardinal players, including Weaver, felt the same way adding they just got beat by good pitches, last night. Who knows what all kind of stuff pitchers sneak out to the mound? Maybe even STL pitchers?

Post Post: I forgot to mention a little fun I had browsing around back in '83 when Brett hit one out with the pine tar game. Billy Martin jumped all over the incident, had umpires checking Brett's bat which showed 19" of pine tar and then some beyond the 18" legal limit. Big blow up, Brett goes balistic, they take away the home run/win, eject Brett from the game. One month later the Commisoner overruled the decision, gave back the HR to Brett and had KC and NY finish the 5-4 game which the Royals held on to win while Brett played cards en route to their next game. Another much ado about nothing example how managers can overreact and cause more problems than solve them where there are grey areas.

Looks like tonight's lineup for STL will have Taguchi in RF, Wilson going in LF and Encarnación in need of reincarnation on the bench. If Carpenter is on, I like the Card's chances.

Okay, it's wagering time -- but not on the outcome of this game, or even of the Series. The bet is how long it will take Buck & Co. tonight to show us a picture of Kenny Rogers' hand. The choice are:

1) Before the first pitch.
2) During the first inning.
3) During the second inning.
4) Third inning or later.
5) Never, they've wouldn't dare drag out the controversy.

Well first they will discuss the labor deal, so Im gonna say inning 4.

Does this extend out to the pregame crap? If so, definitely before the first inning.

I expect a montage of it somewhere around 8:01, to be honest ...

McCarver and Bud are gonna have a pregame interview so I don't no how much time they will have.

#1 - Hands down, but up. And we're gonna hear about Gaylord Perry again, and Sammy Sosa again and they'll probably play Sticky Fingers or Your Cheatin' Heart. Odds are they'll even throw in Brett's pine tar game of '83 and then talk about the all time controversial plays of ALC, NLC and Series. As long as Carpenter is on, tonight, I'll enjoy the muted silence.

I would go so far as to say that the Cardinals pitchers are probably annoyed that he brought it up because now all of them will be scrutinized. Seriously, I'd bet at least one pitcher on each team is using goop of some kind.

I think LaRussa didn't want to take it to that level because it would seem bush league to complain about it on the biggest stage in the game. If only Jacques Demers had thought the same, my LA Kings might have won the Stanley Cup just once. <sigh> On the other hand, that's an argument for LaRussa to point it out.

Well cheating is cheating no matter what team does it.

Even if a kid reaches over the outfield wall and turns an out into a homer?

Even if a team features an extra-long rendition of "God Bless America" to ice the opposing pitcher in the playoffs?

if your gonna go by that logic the Cubs would of made the World Series 2 years ago. A fan reaching over the stands and a pitcher doctoring up the ball are different.

The world of speculation. The Cards were 3 outs from the '85 title and the ump misses a call to start a rally with K.C. It's all part of the game, including the grey "scuffing" areas.

BTW-IJ won the bet for the night. FOX pounced on the hand several minutes before the first pitch. Their coverage is simply the worst. They talked over Rolen's at bat, talked over Eckstein to Wilson, missed pitches while selling Taco Bell in the bleachers, missed more pitches checking out peroxide blondes looking through binoculars.

I know McCarver played ball, but what are these producers on FOX thinking? Surely the TV audience is not that..........never mind.

Go Cards. Nice job, Carpenter.

Well, I think the Cards are gonna take it this year. That's just my 2 cents. :)
That and coming from a die hard White Sox fan, you can understand why some of us might be suspicious? :p :D I did pull for your Sox last year though and crossed leagues, so I guess it's possible there are some in Chicago who don't entirely hate STL and vice versa.

Well, I'm kind of anti-Cubs since Wrigleyville has been turned into the Bourbon Street of Chicago. I live close Wrigley Field and that area is not about baseball anymore, believe me. It's about the Tribune company making money off merchandise. So as a result, ticket prices are astronomical and Wrigley is a tourist attraction, nothing more. The Cubs can lose until the world ends and they'll make money. I'm sick of that. I used to be able to go to a Cubs game in the bleachers not 10 years ago for $8. Now it's more like $25-30. Ridiculous. St. Louis is the rival team, so I say go St. Louis. Maybe the damn Tribune Company will finally form a Cubs team that can win after this year, but I seriously doubt it. Why bother? They make money either way.

I haven't been to the new ball park in St. Louis. I grew up at the old Sportman's Park and later at Busch Memorial, but ticket prices have really taken off.

Just out of curiosity since I'm back in the U.S. during the Series, I thought I'd check out what it would cost to take my two kids to a game in STL. It like started at $400 per for standing room. My "used to"'s were to get field box for $12-16 a pop, so I haven't been in a while.

St. Louis is a baseball city, though. They want Championship #10 and just might do it at this rate. Chicago has so many other teams to pull for, plus the Bears are back this year. That said, the days of dropping just under a $100 bucks at the ballpark for a family of four are way gone.

Well hey, Wrigley is the only ballpark I know you can go to, and piss into a horse trough :D

Don't worry..I think that The Sox may be heading the same way. Everyone's a Sox fan these days apparently, you know?

And that, my friend, is truly sad.
When was the old Comiskey taken down, '91? I was in Chicago for meetings back when they were playing in first round ALC. So, I snuck out at the last minute and got a seat online (like $125), but for the life of me, I can't remember when ('93 or '94) and who the Sox were playing. Seems like I remember Molitor playing so would that be Toronto vs. Chicago, back then?

Anyway, that's the only game I got to see in Chicago.

Regular season ticket prices aren't too bad, and if you're willing to get cheap seats, you can easily take a family of 4 to the game for under 100 bucks. What's the real killer is snacks. I went to a game in September (Pujol's 3 homerun game against the pirates) and spent nearly 20 bucks just for a hotdog, pretzel and soda. It's ridiculous. Parking's also pretty expensive, too. We took the metrolink. We parked at the station at DeBaliviere and Forest Park Parkway, which was free, and then took the Metrolink out to Busch which was 4 bucks a person round trip (there were 3 of us, and 12 bucks on the metrolink was cheaper than parking).

BTW, $400 for SRO, was that through Busch or off eBay or some other reseller?

Did you have to sit in the nose bleed section? They say all the seats are a good view, but with some 5000 less seats, I wonder how they have it? Do you feel closer to the field or farther away and are there any bad viewing sections? I can still remember field level seats at the old Busch where people had to negotiate looking around posts.

Some of us bitter White Sox fans are rooting for the Cardinals to spite the Cubs and the Tigers. But there are also some of use that hate La Russa for the time when he managed the White Sox, so we're a bit split. I would rather have the division rival of the Cubs win than over being a dick about La Russa

Very true. The Tribune Co. doesn't care about winning a World Series. They've got one hell of a cash cow with the Cubs and they know they'll continue to make money even if they lose and reach 100 years of being god-awful terrible. More and more people are going to the White Sox in this town now because they actually have a goal of winning as well as making money.

So how about those Cardinals last night? Seems like the Tigers are losing any momentum that they had from game 2. I think the Cardinals now have the edge in the series and they'll win it in 6. I've always thought that, but now it's even more concrete than before.
