does the keyboard always consume battery? i noticed you have swiftkey. I ask because i use to use the fleksy keyboard but stopped since i noticed it consumes a lot of my battery. it use to show up on the battery usage page as 15% usage.

I have actually been really disappointed with my iPhone 6's batterylife, for some reason I cannot get more than 5 hours usage out of it, while I only use it for some YouTube videos or Safari browsing..
A friend of mine gets 8 hours easily, so I can't help but think that something might be wrong on my install/device. One that might have to do with it is that I'm using a backup from my old iPhone 6 that was running a jailbroken iOS 6.

Does anyone have an idea how I can fix this, or should I just start accepting this battery life?

Battery Usage/Life Screenshots iPhone 6

So I just went from ridiculous battery life to LUDICROUS battery life by trying a "you're using it wrong" trial and error strategy. Check my screenshot below and I've hit 9 hours of usage on half the battery (that's on track for 18 hours of usage on a full drain). I now get more usage on half my battery than most people get on a full battery. This is an iPhone 6 128gb version. It is NOT the IPhone 6 Plus. I am on iOS 8.1 with a jailbreak and tweaks to save battery life explained in my most recent posts.

My strategy was simple. Each day I would look at my usage and make a note of what app was at the top of the list using the most battery. For myself this was Safari. So the next day I would consciously try to use that app less. Rinse and repeat for the day after. I also started trying not to hit the home screen button as the home screen has been a battery drain culprit. Instead I would double press to get the multitask screen instead and as you can see in my screenshot that lead to very low home screen usage.

Finally I tested a few things with leaving apps running. Before I used to quit every app using the upwards swipe from multitasking screen but noticed that battery life got better when I stopped doing this. So next I tried leaving all apps running but noticed that it wasn't as good for the battery as only leaving a few of my most recently used apps running and manually quitting down the rest. Eventually I found that for myself leaving about 5 of my most recently used apps running and shutting everything else down with the upward swipe gave me the best battery life.

Other changes I've done that I'm not sure affect battery life have been to install the LockGlyph tweak but it may be coincidence that I installed it when the battery got better through other reasons. Also this screenshot involved me wearing headphones when I listened to my podcasts and music instead of usually playing things through the speaker. Maybe that helped too I'm not sure.

Anyways this was a rather extreme test of battery life. I'll probably end up going back to using Safari the most like usual but it gave me an idea of what apps are the best for battery life (Alien Blue and Tapatalk and Spotify seem amazing for battery).ImageUploadedByTapatalk1416863420.236563.jpg

All the tweaks I did and explanations are in this thread post here:

Since Apple still is signing iOS 8.1 you guys can still jailbreak if you want. You would have to google where to download the official Apple 8.1 firmware image for your phone, and then would need to hold down the OPTION key when clicking on Restore in iTunes to select the file. Under Windows it's the SHIFT key instead. Good luck!

I have the jailbreak already but I'm not getting close to what you get or any improvement for that fact

Here's mine under normal usage. Only savings I have made is ensuring screen brightness is about half throughout the day. I have turned off all location system services except find my iPhone and compass calibration. I also have all apps set to "while using" for location or never if that option is unavailable. (Except run keeper that is allowed always as it relies on location and I don't want to miss that tracked run!).

I'm really happy with these stats:

Obvious

This is obvious that no smart phone is worth for 3 days (even 2) with one full charge. iPhone 6 is not exceptional. Although iPhone 6 plus possess most rich battery power, but finally no such luck for more than one day.

That's actually pretty good considering the low signal. That in my experience drains battery the fastest.

Technically this is true. 10 hours usage covers heavy use for one day. So we would need at least 20 hours battery life to cover two days of heavy use without charging overnight.

So how is tubbymac getting such good results

Keep in mind the last use case I posted is not my typical usage pattern. The top app is Alien Blue in my screenshot. That meant a lot of reddit browsing. Usually Safari is my top app and that reduces my battery by a couple of hours.

This from my iPhone 4S After Replacement Old Battery ..

While using 2G and WiFi only with 40% Screen Bright / 3G OFF ..

is it big change if i take iP6 ?

i mean (Battery Life) ?

or just 1 hour more Usage :( ?

As I posted above, I'm getting dramatically better battery life now that I've restored my iPhone 6 from an iTunes backup and performed the Pangu iOS 8.1 jailbreak. First picture is for reference, which was my 7 hours of usage using only half the battery. Second picture is how I've configured Settings / Privacy / Location Services (forgot to screenshot the stuff that got cut off at the bottom - everything cut like Popular Near Me is off). Third picture is how I've configured Settings / Privacy / Location Services / System Services. Fourth picture is how I've configured Settings / iCloud.

Brightness is left at default auto-brightness mode. Wifi is always on. Bluetooth is always off. Orientation lock is on. Also background fetch is turned OFF.

Before the jailbreak I had my twitter account logged in under Settings. After the jailbreak I've removed my twitter account and removed Twitterrific. This seems to have reduced the "network always spinning" bug in Safari that came about during iOS 8.1. It also seems to have helped battery life. I use twitter through the web now.

Oh I also no longer swipe to close my frequently used apps. I only swipe away things like Camera, Maps, and Voice Over IP apps. This seems to have helped battery.

The jailbreak tweaks that seem to have extended battery life that I have installed include:

Disable Parallax Effect - This removes the parallax effect from the home screen but leaves all the other animations intact (so it's better than using Accessibility Settings / Reduce Motion). Seems to greatly reduce battery use from the home screen which has been a big percentage battery drainer for a lot of people in this thread.

NoLiveClock - Stops the home screen clock from constantly updating and animating. Again reduces battery drain from the home screen.

Light Untrusted Hosts Blocker - Adblock based on host file entries that saves battery and data by not downloading or rendering ads on web sites visited in Safari (should work in Chrome and everything else too that has ads).

Finally my wallpaper is set to the mostly black picture with the top of the earth showing (one of the default still wallpapers). This could possibly be helping my battery by not having to use much power to display the background.

I'm not sure which of these is causing the biggest battery gains. Altogether though they've improved my already great iPhone 6 battery life from about 8-10 hours usage to about 12-14 hours! This is insane. It's now even better than the iPhone 6 Plus I had before.

Would love to see if other people can reproduce my results!

its a fake? show battery at 5%

You'll probably get extra an hour or two on the 6. I'm a little underwhelmed with my results.

See below...

Show results at 1 percent please

I'm assuming you two are just new to the thread and not just lazy. I already did this a while ago some pages back. Do a google for my forum name this thread title and the word science. I think I said something like "for science" or "in the interest of science."

To sum it up, before without the jailbreak, without the tweaks, and with some heavy 3D gaming on Real Racing 3 I got almost 11 hours of usage when my battery was at 1%. That was on iOS 8.1.

I've done almost all my screenshots at 50% to make the math easy. You just double it.

The few people in this thread complaining that battery drain isn't linear are wrong. I tested it and proved it wrong in the same post.

in iphone 6, the longer lasting battery is with ios 8.1 or 8.1.1 ?

I usually get 9-10 hours of usage when the phone gets down to 1%, I have auto brightness off, Ive always liked controlling it myself, have Bluetooth off whenever I'm not using it, wifi off when I'm not using it and the only background process I have is cloud magic which is the email client I use and oh this is on a 64gb iPhone 6

Battery life on the iPhone 6 (4.7") is truly outstanding, compare to any smartphone I have used. I can get easy through the day from morning till evening after a heavy use, and even 2 days of moderate use.

I received my iPhone 6 on Monday and used it for downloading all my apps and used it until it shutoff.

Then plugged it in and unplugged on Tuesday at around 7:30am and plugged it back in after taking that screenshot.

So far so good :)
