I should note that the music is streaming from iCloud, it's not on my actual device.

Good to hear and thanks for info as it deff makes me feel better.... Will most def being doing a clean install in a couple hours and updating to IOS 8.0.2.

I put this form together to gather all the info I could think of regarding people's battery stats:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1BXvQW-gRP1GQvx06ElACCTu3dPhOe9JX42P22Z6VVwI/viewform

Takes a while to answer all the questions, but I wanted it to be as complete as possible without getting too anecdotal.
Once you complete, it shows Google Form's summary view of answer, but isn't that indicative of patterns.

I've made the spreadsheet results visible to anyone:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/16QWPn-oJ3XYVQhEFlsT7R50UJmg7bLNDkUf70JT83Ps/edit?usp=sharing
I've never shared a google spreadsheet before, so let me know if that works okay or not..

I've added a column for "projected" usage. It takes the usage time, converts to minutes, divides by percentage drained (100 minus percent left), multiplied by 100 (to projected 100% usage..) then converts back to a time.

Not too many response so far (probably most of them are mine), so get filling it in :)

GREAT Job setting this up! I was thinking about doing the same thing earlier today look forward to seeing how it turns out.

Wasn't able to make a screenshot, because it didn't show up the usage stats (except for the percentage per app). But I actually might be able to prove how good the battery life of my iPhone 6 is.

I haven't charged it before, so it came right of the box today. Was able to use it for 6,5 hours. And yes, this includes stand-by (I'm sure it's like a quarter of the total usage), but like everyone who just got his iPhone I had to install a lot apps, music and try out all those great new features like the camera, Touch ID (because my previous iPhone was the 4S), as well as a bit of hardcore gaming.

I think it already has shown how great the battery life is on the iPhone 6. It's definitely much better compared to my iPhone 4S, which wasn't able to stand out over four hours at low to average usage.

Currently I'm calibrating the battery, and afterwards it should be better. At least, based on what I've heard from other on MacRumors. Oh, and I've set up my iPhone 6 as new, which also improves battery life according to a lot people.

Anyway, will post a screenshot after a better, and more concrete test. ;)

Not bad for today

That's awesome battery life. Your screenshot also dispels the theory that WhatsApp is a battery drainer. I'm starting to see more screenshots these days with great battery life with heavy WhatsApp use. So I guess we can rule that app out for people's battery issues.

Only on pace for 6 hours of usage there, so your battery life isn't that good. I think 8 hours is doable for the iPhone 6 in general, with a few of us getting 9+ hours.

As above you're only on pace for around 6 hours of usage. It could be the background activity in Photos app though. Maybe it's still syncing with iCloud and downloading a lot of photos.

Your battery is AWESOME. If you need or prefer the bigger screen, you could consider upgrading to the iPhone 6 Plus. I didn't really notice the OIS in the Plus model to make much of a difference in normal pictures, even in low light. Surprisingly the Plus model fit in my pocket when I tried it at the Apple Store and the big screen wasn't too bad to hold in my hands. I liked it a lot.

I don't have that turned on. I'm guessing I could get more battery with parallax turned off, but I don't think I can turn just that off without also turning off the zooming animations, which I actually like.

7/8 sounds about normal - it depends on what apps you use and what settings you have on/off. Also varies a lot due to how strong your cell reception/signal is in your area. The Apple numbers are in a very controlled environment. It's probably 11 hours of using nothing but just the Safari app with no switching to any other apps. I could probably get close to that (I've gotten to 10 hours with my usage) but it would be very boring to reproduce those results sitting all day just using Safari and nothing else.

I think you should be salty about it, yes. If you aren't at least getting 7-8 I'd worry that something is messed up with a restore from backup, or that the battery is faulty, or that some App is going hog wild and preventing your iPhone from idling properly. Be especially wary if the usage time is equal or close to the stand by time. If those numbers are nearly the same it's a clear sign of something faulty.

I'd try a clean install first, but I know that's a big pain for most people. Usually the restore from backup is what messes most iPhones up.

You are correct in that the battery usage screen resets after a full charge. But you're wrong in that plugging in the phone is immediately noticeable on the screenshots because there is a message under the standby time warning something like "phone has been plugged into the charger since the last full charge". So the screenshots without that message are completely valid measurements of actual battery life.

This bug should be fixed in iOS 8.02 according to the release notes. I haven't tested it yet though.

7-8 hours of Usage or Standby?

On the last pic I plugged it in after it sat at 1% for about 20 minutes then took the screen shot. Half of this time I was out and about on LTE and 3G actually spent the last 2 hours at the hospital reading and tubing.
6+

However I tried somethign different that seemed to have worked. For all of those having trouble with their battery life I would strongly suggest resetting all settings (Settings > General > Reset > Reset all Settings).

Hmm great tip, never thought to try that.

Any comments? I didn't think it was really good but maybe more charge cycles will help it.

That's pretty good actually.

Still a little confused as to what exactly it means by standby time though

USAGE = amount of time your phone has been AWAKE from sleep
STANDBY = amount of time your phone has both been ASLEEP and AWAKE

Therefore SLEEP time is STANDBY minus USAGE time.

Example: If your usage is 5 hours and standby is 8 hours, your phone has been only asleep for 3 hours.

Example 2: If your usage is 6 hours and your standby is also 6 hours, it means your phone has NEVER gone to sleep. This is bad news because it means something is most likely preventing your phone from going idle (an app that is constantly running, or some background service that is preventing your phone from ever going to sleep).

Hows this look?

Very good battery life.

Good? It was crappy battery life until I did a few cycles.

Looks decent to me.

Thank God I'm not using my 5s anymore.

That's INCREDIBLE battery life. Wow!

And the final before I let it die which I am ok with due to my frustrations today...

Yeah that is beyond terrible. Definitely return your phone if you can't fix it before your warranty period. Something is definitely wrong.

7-8 hours of Usage or Standby?

Usage. I usually ignore the Standby as iPhones are pretty good at using very little power while asleep (unless the cell reception is terrible while it's asleep).

I'm so envious of your iPhone 6 Plus. That battery life is RIDICULOUSLY AMAZING!

Forgot to charge my phone last night, but plugged it in for about 30 minutes this morning.

These tests are kind of useless. People who use Wi-Fi most of the day, would have significantly better results than those that use LTE/4G.

You're right, of course -- but taking a look at a wide swath of them can give us some indication of how good the battery life is. It's certainly not a scientific study.

You can't even get the big picture from this thread, they are all different, some of them on the extreme side. There are too many variables here:

1. Display brightness level
2. Apps
3. Wifi/LTE
4. More enabled draining battery features such as bluetooth/GPS (some apps are using GPS and it shows just the app name in the list).
5. I'm not sure but I don't think it starts to count from a full charge. You can also charge it by 5% and it will reset itself.
6. Going down from 20% to 0% is way slower than from 100% to 20% (the last 10% are really slow going even in extensive work compared to before that).

Not sure if my attachment worked... Here is today's usage. Was on wifi a lot, but used phone until it died and then charged until the battery usage for apps showed.

Mostly Spotify, browsing, Facebook, etc.

Battery Usage/Life Screenshots iPhone 6

Ok, new replaced iPhone 6 , Second Cycle , 3G usage, mostly whatsapp , iMessage & safari.
Seems like my usage Profile Limits the battery to 5-6 h use . Underwhelming. Maybe After some cycles it will be able to squeeze out a Little bit more.

I also have the feeling whatsapp is a battery Killer. Deinstalled it and there is a noticeable improvement.
Only Problem is that Everyone is using whatsapp

Whatsapp has the laziest dev team out of all the major social apps today. They hardly issue any fixes when needed, and even when they do put out a patch once in a blue moon, it usually doesn't address the issue at hand.

Their update v2.11 from a few weeks ago promised new tones and wallpapers. I dont care much for wallpapers but tones I love. Im a bit anal about the kind of notification tones I have on my devices, and have waited years for WhatsApp to allow us to customize notification tones. Apparently the new update was supposed to have 'new tones' (not customizable ones but its something at least...) and sure enough, there are NO NEW TONES. Or wallpapers, for that matter.

What is this exactly?
