I've noticed since iOS5 that my GPS is always enabled. Looking in the settings, it appears the "automatically set time zone based on location" option was on, and constantly using the GPS!

After turning that option off in the advanced settings everything is back to normal :)

Thats what i'm saying! Who wouldnt plug their phone in when they go to bed? Thats common sense.

Not everyone has power near their bed, and some of us want the phone there for alarms, or to read in the morning (or before bed). My phone sits on the book shelf next to my bed and the closest power point is at the other end of the room where the TV and clock is.

Funny, I noticed that at work (concrete and steel building, no mobile reception and no way in hell you are going to get a GPS fix). I just turned it off, along with a few of the other system services which used location services as I cant see the use of them here.

Have wifi on, bluetooth on, icloud on, one gmail exchange account, no diagnostic data being sent to Apple, siri raise to speak on.

Went to bed at 1am at 99%
Woke up at 6am at 95%

Yes it does. But I'll buy it if it's good. The reviews on all the docks were mixed and we do understand she will need to take the case off. Just looking for anyone with a satisfied purchase who can recommend.

I don't bother with a dock. I just have the cord plugged into the wall outlet next to the nightstand, and plug the cord in every night.

I'm not looking through 13 pages or whatever to find if anybody said this, so here it goes.

Anybody have their battery drop to 97% the second its taken off the charge? I saw mine this morning was at a full 100%, I unplugged the charger, and all of a sudden it dropped to 97% in a matter of a second. Its been calibrated twice.

Yes and now after about 2 hours, mine is at 56% and I have been doing barely nothing.

Has anybody called Apple about this???

I have a theory as to why the battery life is dropping so significantly at night. Maybe a lot of people are talking to Siri in their sleep. :D

Drained battery to where it turned itself off last night, fully charged all night. Sent 4 text imessages, surfed the web for 3 minutes, down to 90% in a heartbeat. Now looking at my idlling iPhone and now it's down to 86%. I may take mine into an apple store to have them look at it. Apple can't tout great battery life, cuz' its not happening on my 4S.

I always thought that location (for time zone purposes) was always derived from cell towers as opposed to GPS. Even dumb phones back in the day would adapt the clock to the correct timezone.

not the gps

this setting isn't set by the gps, it is set by the cell tower communication information.

I can see why they'd use cell towers instead (it makes more sense) - but whenever it's activated I get the arrow at the top of the screen next to the battery %, and notice a drop in battery life (sometimes up to 10% a hour of standby with nothing else really enabled)

As soon as I disable that one option, the arrow goes from the top and battery life resumes to normal.

To each to their own I guess - just my personal experiences!

OLD 3GS (it's one of the first ones), started from fresh with iOS5 (no backup restored).

Running GMail, Facebook, wifi, GPS for weather, Bluetooth handsfree in the car, and it's on 3G when I'm not at home. From full charge yesterday morning it ran down to 83% yesterday. It was down to 75% this morning, had a 30 minute phone call at it was down to 69%.

Charged it this morning again, it's been sat on my desk for 3-4 hours and it's still at 98%.

It's WAY better on iOS5 than iOS4 for me.

Horseradish. I always had "automatically set time zone based on location" on my iPhone 4 and had no battery problems.

I wonder if not all towers send the required data for this and other location services. Here in Australia I am definately feeling the phone heat up when the arrow comes on for more than a minute or two, and seeing a noticeable drop in battery at the same time too.

Location based reminders are a good example - I get the arrow and I also get 10 to 15% battery drop per hour. People in the USA have said they dont see the same issue, but here it makes them useless. It may be better in the city, but I live in the country with only 3 towers covering the majority of the town.

4S with everything on except bluetooth off and iCloud...

After 17 hours I'm still at 25%. Normal usage all day checking twitter, FB, mails, a few short calls and listening to music to and from work.

More than happy with that since my 3GS would die in 3-4 hours with only a few calls and emails.

Just charge the phone before you go to sleep. Not sure why that's such a big deal for people seeing as you're not using the phone during that time. I've done that with every cell phone I've ever had, always been able to make it through my days without a problem.

Mine was doing this too.

I put it back on and it immediately jumped back to 100%. Took it off, back to 99%.

I put it back and it took about 5 minutes to get from 99% to 100%...I haven't had any problems since. I think the battery controller has a bug or something that can prevent a full charge.

My battery life is also awful. I have nothing opened in the multitasking bar, and havent been using it since taking it off the charger at 9am, and its already down to 89%.

It took like an hour to go from 100 % to 99%, but the past hour 10 more % has gone?

I am using a brand new 64gb 4s installed as a new phone.

I havent been using it and it says my usage is 2 hours and 5 minutes and standby time is 2 hours and 5 minutes since the last full charge.

Last night I went to bed at 26 % and woke up at 3%....Does anyone have any other ideas on how to fix this?

I always charge my phone at night bedside and next to computer when near it. I have the smaller standard dock for the bed and larger universal dock for the computer. (3GS) I'll do de with my (4S) when I get it.

This is happening to me - my usage time is almost mirroring my standby time even though I am not using it so it looks like something is running all the time (even though I have switched everything off I can). I also noticed this morning that it had been charging all night and it only reached 97%. It will be going back to Apple in the next few days if I can't find a solution to this.

Charge your phone at night people! Simple solution. If you need more battery then get a mophie case!!!!!!! If you complain it's too heavy or bulky, well then you can't have it all. You have a choice of a awesome phone with lots of features that goes through battery or get a simple phone that will last for days!!!!!

I really think we need to give it a week or two before we can judge. It seems to drain a bit faster for me but I've been playing with it non stop so it's hard to say. I would advise against using location based reminders if you're worried about battery life as it seems to check where you are quite often.

----------

I set up as a brand new phone.. I lose 1% for every minute I have the phone on.. And 1% every 2-3 minutes in standby.. All push and sync options have been turned off...

Any reminders turned on? There must be something as I have push and sync options on and mine drops much more slowly than that.

Took my phone off charge at 8:30am.

Everything on. It's now 4:35 and I'm at 25%.

A little bit of browsing and Facebook checking.

My 3GS was miles better than this.
