I'm not looking through 13 pages or whatever to find if anybody said this, so here it goes.

Anybody have their battery drop to 97% the second its taken off the charge? I saw mine this morning was at a full 100%, I unplugged the charger, and all of a sudden it dropped to 97% in a matter of a second. Its been calibrated twice.

Same issue. I have an appointment to a tech tomorrow at 4 I will update what they say. We could have gotten a ba batch.

Does anyone's battery drop when they are texting? For instance I started texting at 3:57pm 49% and at 4:57pm it was at 43%. I'm thinking maybe I got a bad battery. I did calibrate it once. Gonna try to recalibrate one more time than maybe I'll call up the genius bar. Also thinking maybe I'll do a new phone and not a restore.

Mine did that, and it dropped even faster with roughly the same settings.

yeah ive noticed imessage seems to be slurping up the juice pretty good when I'm texting. I think it might have something to do with the extra info being sent back and forth (you can see when your message is delivered and when the other person is typing) I went down like 3% points after maybe 12 texts back and forth. Think apple just needs to optimize more

yeah agree that is troubling. on the 4 it would be 80% on the 4S probably around 70-75% not 22%. curious, are you on wifi mostly or 3G?

I'm primarily on 3G during the day. Since my post the phone has now hit 0% and shut down. I didn't do anything other than receive 7 text messages did not even read them or unlock the phone.

I would take that back to Apple, that is not right. Your activity is similar to mine and at 10hr 3mn since unplugging I am still at 68%. My 4 was better than this, but this is not bad for me either. I think something may be wrong with your phone. What network are you on?

Mine was set up as a new phone. Went to bed last night with it at 100%, woke up to it at 77% I had notifications on for a few games of mine, like Hanging with Friends, Scrabble, etc, so I turned the banner off. I may just end up needing to take them completely out of notifications. I've been trying everything, so hopefully I find something that works. I do a lot of texting and find myself having to be near an outlet so I can just keep it charged as I text. That sucks.

As long as its normal as in what is happening to everybody than it's not a problem with my phone and that makes me happy.

Hopefully they will optimize this.

I'm on AT&T, I do have a perfect signal at my desk so it's not like the phone is straining to get a decent signal. Might make a visit to the Apple store tomorrow...

I am going to take my phone back too. Something has to be wrong with the battery. Do I have to make an appt or should I just go?

I think they will. Since putting it in airplane mode stops the battery drain it is likely a software issue as opposed to a hardware issue. I think apple will have an update out to address this pretty quick.

I think with 5.1 or 5.0.1 it'll bring a few tweaks here and there to help battery life.

I am confident that come Thursday (my longest day being 7:30AM - 5PM) I will get through that period quite easily.

I hope :p. Either way, I'm going to always carry around a spare cable & charger in my bag.

My wife and I exchanged text messages for 2.5 hours, she lost 15% of her battery with the same configuration...I lost close to 30%.

I am the point of going to the Genius Bar. For those who HAVE went with battery issues on the 4S, what's been the outcome? I saw at least one person say they saw no improvement with the replacement. I would almost camp out in the store to make sure before leaving.

I would like to know also what the outcome was.

Update from last night:

Unplugged my phone at 11 this morning. It's 5 something in the evening now, and I am sitting at 73% with moderate usage.

Got my iPhone 4s this morning at 10:00 with 75% battery charge.
7.5 hours later, after playing around for some time on-and-off, it sits at 5%.

70% in just over 7 hours?? All was doing was setting up the thing with email accounts, contacts, etc.

hope it gets better.....

Usage: 4 hours, 9 minutes
Standby: 1 day, 6 hours

I have 41% left. I didn't have to leave it on the charger last night. Definitely much better than my 3gs. I never had a 4 so I don't know what that was like but I can say I'm happy with my battery life.

since yesterday's restore, and turning off (at someone else's suggestion) the "raise to speak" function for Siri, I'm at 45% after about 8 hours of periodic use. I have wifi on, exchange mail push notifications, a location based reminder all active, and have been using Siri on and off. This is pretty comparable to my sporadic usage and battery results at the end of the work day from the standard iPhone 4.

The problems I was having, with significant drain (1 percent per minute) and a warm phone even when idling were occurring this weekend prior to a full restore.

It's possible that either a system or application process got hung or that the battery power management piece of the firmware was corrupted. These things do happen. If a hard reset and full restore don't fix the issue, I would take the phone in for a battery diagnostic and repair/replacement. Right now I'm convinced that, just like with every launch, different people are experiencing different sets of problems. Some are battery related, some firmware related, but they all have similar symptoms.... just different root causes.

Update: Using for the last hour and my battery has gone down maybe 2-3% tops. Much better than prior to yesterday's restore.

mine was 100% at the start of the day got to work took me about 20 minutes was at 93% started working hit my first break 2 hours in 83% used it for a bit went to 78% went back to working got to my lunch 2.5 hours in 65% used it for a bit 60% went back to working got off 2.5 hours later 55% got home about 20 minutes 52%. I looked at usage and it was at 8 hours usage
8 hours standby which doesn't really add up since i used it maybe 50-60 minutes of the time and it should be standby the rest. Not sure why but it thinks it was being used the whole time it was on standby? idk

----------

as of posting this I have been home for about a hour since and its down to about 29%

I unplugged my phone at 5:30 am. Played a little Zombieville, and talked with my wife twice and for a total of about an 1.5 hrs. A couple of other phone calls and playing with some settings and I'm still at 65% 12 hrs later with just about everything on but Bluetooth. I haven't noticed any crazy battery problems since opening mine.

Good to know. I've used a battery program and witnessed roughly the same background processes on our two iPhone 4Ss...one that has a battery issue and one that doesn't. I am starting to think something went wrong in the setup, and am going to try a full restore before taking it back to an Apple store.

has anyone tried "The battery life is very good on the IPHONE 4S. I think people need to remember to go into TASK Manager by double tapping the HOME button and closing out any unused applications. To closed them out, long press one of the applications until the minus sign shows up. Then tap the minus sign for all the apps you want to close." Saw it on the sprint forums, did that and noticed pretty much every app i have installed was up and chilling.

Yeah I am also going to try a fresh restore. Waiting for phone to completely die though.

To all you blockheads saying "just charge the phone at night"
That obviously doesn't solve the problem. The problem is that the battery is draining. If it drains 10~20% (or more) overnight while idling how the hell can these people expect it to last them an entire day of actual usage? Telling people to charge the phone "overnight" has absolutely nothing to do with solving the problem; what is causing the battery drain. Like people have said, they take the phone off the charger and in a few hours they have lost 30% or more. That's unacceptable. I lose less than 5% overnight.

-Turn off location based reminders.
-Troubleshoot by turning off iCloud
-Restore and set up as a new phone, not a backup

If that doesn't solve the problem, you might have a dud :(
