Mine drained maybe 4-5% over night with all features (including wifi and bluetooth) enabled. That said, I also make sure to close potentially problematic apps when I'm done using them (like Skype for example).

Why does no one charge overnight? When do you charge your phones if not overnight?

I'm suspecting something old-school is going on.

What are your email push/fetch settings?

Its only good to charge if it needs it. Alot of people don't realize its not good to keep a battery at high % ALL the time. Its def a good idea to drain the sucker to 0% (let the phone shutoff from no power) then to keep it always at like 50%+.

On my iPhone 4 i would say about ... 90% of the time i will always run netflix or something on it when its low like 20% ish (on 3g .. due to more battery drain but i have unlimited data so that depends if you have this) to kill the battery to 0% (phone shuts off) then charge it.

It's definitely NOT a good idea to keep running the battery flat constantly. It is once every month but not all the time. You can charge it from any percentage and this will not harm the battery. Modern batteries work better with a higher charge.

Has anyone tried doing a restore and resync?

My iphone 4 dropped like a brick after one of the ios5 betas (I think number 2 or 3). A restore and resync solved things for me a few months ago.

Not really true.

A LiIon battery degrades based on two things: 1) its age, and 2) how many charge cycles it goes through. If it's plugged in, the controller lets the battery drop to, let's pick a number, 90%, at which point it charges it up. This counts as 1/10th of a full charge cycle. If you were to let it drop to 0% before charging it, you would have just as many full charge cycles over the same period. Doesn't matter that in one regime you have ten 10% charges, and in the other you have a single 100% charge.

At least that was what I was taught.

I was wondering the same thing. I always charge my phone at night.

Battery seems to be comparable to the 4. I went on a 3 hr run this morning using runmeter app and Bluetooth headphones. Used about 45% which is about the same as the iPhone 4. Everything on except the screen. I've been debating whether I need a battery case for my marathon but I think I will be okay unless I decide to start taking pictures or videos during the race. But it would totally suck if my iPhone died on me.

I'm glad people posted the things about the battery.

The battery the iphone uses does not need any conditioning in order to maximize it's power. Completely decharging the battery can actually cause it damage and on a rare occasion it may die on you.

With lithium ion batteries (like in the iPhone), most battery experts tell you to charge as frequently as possible and avoid full discharges if possible. These aren't like older NiCad or NiMH batteries that developed "memories" if not discharged.

Here is a link describing what I'm talking about: http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/how_to_prolong_lithium_based_batteries

Similar to a mechanical device that wears out faster with heavy use, so also does the depth of discharge (DoD) determine the cycle count. The smaller the depth of discharge, the longer the battery will last. If at all possible, avoid frequent full discharges and charge more often between uses. If full discharges cannot be avoided, try utilizing a larger battery. Partial discharge on Li-ion is fine; there is no memory and the battery does not need periodic full discharge cycles other than to calibrate the fuel gauge on a smart battery.

The only thing that site DOES recommend is to not leave the device on the charger for long periods of time once the battery reaches 100%. But it also states that most chargers have a protection circuit built in that will discontinue the charge once it reaches 100%.

For what it's worth, I don't charge mine overnight unless I absolutely have to. There just isn't a convenient plug right next to my side of the bed.

Does anybody know how to reset push notifications on 3rd party apps?

I've agreed to turning on Push Notifications when i first got the phone, and I believe some are useless and is draining my battery.

Charged mine from about 20% last night when I went to bed to a full charge this morning.

After a few messages, light browsing, and about 2hrs of standby...I am still at 100%
