My little update:

Battery life does seem to be improving although I still have pretty much everything turned off. My phone has stayed charged at 100% for about an hour now with WiFi turned on and an email check, reply and send.

Hoping this trend continues...

from my testing, the first percentage drop can't be trusted, 100% seems to last longer than others.

My iPhone had a 2% standby overnight the first 2 nights
After messing with settings its about 30%

Usage and standby are totally random from barely acceptable to horrid. I'm not making it through the 8 hour workday on moderate usage.

Somrthing is definitely running in the background !!! Took my phone off the charger this morning and drove to work. I purposely did nothing to with my phone --- when I got to work I checked my usage and standby times. Standby was around 50 minutes and my usage was at 6. All i did was turn the phone on and check to make sure I was at 100% battery. From that time til work I did NOTHING. I checked a couple more times throughout the day and the same thing happened. The usage time would always be about 4-6 minutes more from the last time I checked. Hopefully apple comes up with the fix soon.

I'm getting a bit over 7hours of battery, with normal usage now. I'm pretty content, however this was after removing several features. I'm hoping Apple releases a fix for this very soon..

I believe the battery issue may have something to do with the 3G radio. I compared the 4s with the 4 (running on 4.3.3 firmware), both on airplane mode with wifi and the 4 is actually draining faster. However, when airplane mode is off, the battery life of the 4S is much much worse than the 4.

Standby - 1 Day 13 hours
Usage - 6 hours 43 minutes

Still have 5% left

I adjusted some location services settings, and i think it is very good.

Really dont see the big problem everyone is talking about

Per Apple site: if you are traveling (for example, in a car) and Location Services is on, a GPS-enabled iOS device will also periodically send GPS locations and travel speed information in an anonymous and encrypted form to Apple, to be used for building up a crowd-sourced road traffic database.

Anyone consider the new antenna being the issue? Not only with battery, but with some of the poor data speeds.

That would be good, but I have EVERYTHING off so I kmow it can't be this

My wife's 4S got that type of battery life out of the box, so it certainly isn't affecting everyone. But enough people are seeing huge standby percentage drops, combined with even worse usage times, that something is afoot with some devices.

God damn I love Apple's customer service!

Got a replacement and hopefully the battery works better this time. Will post results charging to 100% atm...

So since yours is working well, you're confused that others aren't?

Awesome. When I got my replacement last night, I left it in the same condition the Apple store gave it to me in, and let it sit in standby for an hour. When I saw the battery percentage didn't drop 6-7%, I had a potential winner, then charged it to 100 and started slowly adding apps.

For you guys getting new phones keep in mind my phone was fine the first 2 nights...

I'm afraid to put a case on this phone... It gets warm during charging use..

have an iPhone 4 upgraded to iOS 5. My battery drains crazy fast. Even in standby I completely lost charge in under 2 hours. What a sweet "upgrade" Apple....

I'm going to throw in a completely untested conspiracy theory - has anyone actually let their phone completely die? I'm curious if maybe the battery percentage meter is just wrong. My reasoning? Charging the phone seems unreasonably fast. Have you noticed that?

Just some food for thought.

Depends on what you were doing, but if you were surfing the internet / streaming pandora / watching youtube videos for 3 hours on wifi then that is absolutely PERFECT battery life since you should get 9 hours on WiFi from the looks of that screenshot :)

Well here's what I do:

1. Only use location services for apps I need them for.
2. Bluetooth off.
3. Turn 3G off when in WiFi area, and turn WiFi off when in 3G area.
4. Brightness down.
5. Everything in iCloud off.
6. Kill apps after using.
7. Push email off; I check it manually.
8. Everything else is on its normal setting.

That's all I got....I can't think of anything else.
