I never understood the fascination with bbm. Why do blackbery users get so excited about it? If I had a penny for every "BB PIN" post on facebook. Yeah, I get the convenience of it, but I've heard SO many users cite it as a primary reason to stick with bb :s

it's not that fascinating, it's just that its.. well just comes very handy

like you could just send a picture that the whole family of yours can see ( by whole, i mean including your aunts, great great aunts etc2 )

then discussions board and all that

personally, i just buy Blackberry because of that

if RIM does release it for iPhone, i swear it will be the happiest moment of my life for not carrying 2 phones everywhere

only if all of those relatives also have a BB.

or one can just use MMS as most every phone supports that. or email, especially if their phone doesnt support it, it's likely they have a computer that does. contact lists for either allow for customized groups to be created, just like in BBM, to make mass messaging easier on the fingers.

BBM only offers 2 things not currently supported by sms/mms/email: near real-time message delivery status and secure transmission via RIM servers. but it has 2 glaring deficiencies: it's proprietary nature requires RIM handsets and total reliance on RIM servers (for BIS users)... basically a double-edged sword.

The OP of that thread on ModMyi has selected a few from ModMyi to beta test and says that app will go into testing this week. We'll get to know if it's real or not this week then I guess.

I don't see why everyone wants BBM so bad for iPhone. I understand you can send a letter-sized message to someone, but if two iPhones are talking to each other they can practically do the same thing...
What's the big deal?

I have only had say seven corp blackberries and if you just use it as a phone and email they dont freeze, step outside of that though and they dont do so well. And the reboots take forever.

Never used BBM, i am on three of the more popular IM services though. They reach everyone on damn near ALL platforms, with a most wide selection of apps on whatever platform chosen, IM+ pro for me. Would never limit myself to BBM. BUT if they open it up i would be most happy to have BBM on iphone.

www.google.com

go read about BBM, it's not just about sending messages to people.

as for the App that persons making, sounds like BS to me or just another 'whatsapp' or 'liveprofile' type app.

Either it'll be BS or it will actually work. Because in a post he does say that it's like BBM on iPhone. You'd even get a (BBM) PIN so that your friends can add you.

BBM really is great, but a primary reason to stick with bb? That's a bit excessive or, obsessive.

BBM is pretty good but with that said only BBM is no reason to buy a BB, hence I bought an iPhone 4 and I absolutely love, easily the best phone I've used so far. Apart from BBM being good I just think it's a thing which is 'in' at the moment. Couple of years from now and the BBM hype will probably die down. Anyway, if it does come out on the iPhone then I'd happily get/buy it.

This is obviously fake. I'm not sure why there's so much interest. The developer has given no screen shots or it working whatsoever. Whenever pressed, he dodged the question and insults the person who questions him.

Move along.

It was a cool tool at an employer I used to work at. We all had BB's issued to us in IT, so we could easily BBM to each other when away, or on the road. It was convenient. But like one other said; once other started going to iPhones, and other devices it lost it's "cool" factor and usefulness.

I personally use BBM on my work phone in order to have constant communication with my team which consists of six individuals.

You can set individual "groups" per say, share messages/pictures/videos within that group. Also any scheduled calendar reminders/meetings/etc. instantly syncs with all users in your "group". Of course, they all have to accept your invite into it. It's great in a corporate team setting where not everyone is at the office at the same time.

If I remember correctly, isn't there a 3rd party app that already does this? Albeit not to the capacity of BBM but manages to get messages across all platforms, maybe I'm thinking of apps like IM Pro.

Kik does this for iPhone & Android. It's great because since you're already paying for a data plan for your smartphone, you can just use Kik (for free).

For example, if you text a person/friends a lot, you guys should put Kik on your iPhones/Droids and save a lot of money. It's nice knowing if your message has been delivered/read by the other user (I have received Texts hours after they've been sent). Also, if you're in a building with horrible coverage, Kik works via WiFi.

well, i don't own a bb anymore because it's garbage but i wish i had BBM on my iPhone. LiveProfile took off the past few weeks here in Canada and a lot of people have jumped on it (iPhone, BB and Android users). not a bad app when it works

reasons:

- save money on texts
- keep in touch with friends abroad (instead of using email, or wasting 75cents to send a message)
- always connected as long as your BB is on (so essentially like sending a text message, but it uses very very little data)
- picture, video, voice messaging
- group messaging (think of it as a chatroom with all your buddy's)

downside:

- you need a bb

now i always hear people say "just use an IM client". but no, it's not the same because IM clients aren't connected 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. eventually, you'll be timed out.
____________

and the reason why i feel this program is BS is because RIM knows that if they open this open to other platforms, NO ONE is gonna buy a blackberry. blackberry users have blackberry's for BBM, go ask anyone lol. it's kinda sad that they sacrifice the ****** OS for BBM, but it's their choice.

also, how can they legally access RIM's servers to create PINs for people's profiles? or how can they even access RIM's servers from anything other than a blackberry? you can't. iunno this entire thing sounds fishy.

Whatsapp is way better. More importantly, for every Kik user there are about 100 Whatsapp users I guess.

Whatsapp is by far the most popular IM app for BB/iPhone/Android.

I and probably many others expect fake but why would the op go to so much trouble the thread has reached 11 pages.

Exactly, 11 pages. Also, he has a Twitter page for this app he's making and says he'll start beta testing this week, selected users on ModMyi can test and a ModMyi moderator can test it. If it was fake, I doubt he'd do all that. So, there's a chance that thing might actually work, lets see.

We issue Blackberries at work and I can tell you they definitely freeze. The old Curves were the worst. Five mintue reboots. Fun.

I used to have a BB9000 back in the day. I loved the phone but hated how long reboots took. I, for one, don't see BB releasing BBM because these days it seems to be the one thing keeping their customers from ditching them to go to Android or Apple.

It may be more popular, but Kik is free. Also, you need a phone for Whatsapp. Therefore, you can't connect with people on iPod Touches, iPads etc...

Plus, popularity doesn't matter. If your circle of friends use Kik, who cares about everyone else?

I've owned two BB's and love them. You don't have to jailbreak a BB to assign custom text ring tones or use ripped music as a group's ring tone. It locks up once in a great while and the battery life sucks but so do iPhones. Additionally, I rarely use BBM so it's not remotely in my thought process for staying with BB. I'm on Verizon and need mine bc I travel internationally and the Verizon iPhone is useless in the EU. :( Once Verizon offers the iPhone that allows for GSM usage, I'll make the switch. :D But my Storm 2 is 2 years old & going strong... :p
