As you probably know, people in the tech community dislike the 14 Plus, and the shipments are low

But normal people are starting to upgrade their 5 yr old iPhone 8 or 4 yr old XS
So get your pitchforks and angry comments ready for the people who don't care about phones

They will buy the 14 plus because it's large but standard

And from the 4 or so people I know who have gotten one, they like them

Im not saying it's a good value, but many people don't want a used iPhone 13 Pro Max without warranty, maybe lacking water resistance, having damage, poor quality repairs, activation lock, etc like the tech community recommended to people who want a cheaper, larger iPhone. The 14 plus provides everything they care about at a cheaper price than the pro max
edit: multiple people said "buy a certified refurbished 13 Pro Max if you want a warranty" news flash, apple don't sell refurbished iPhones everywhere, eg in Australia (where I live) they refurbish other things, but not iPhones for some reason

edit 2: yes I agree the 14+ is a poor value, but for non tech enthusiasts, it may be worth saving the $320AU if they couldn't care less about a zoom camera, 120hz, stainless steel, etc

So what? If iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max shipment delay doesn’t get blown out of water by CCP, what would those people buy? iPhone 14 Plus is in stock just about anywhere and everywhere, and for folks who just want latest and greatest but doesn’t Have tons of specialised demand, iPhone 14 Plus for them is the next best choice. That’s About it.

It still doesn’t change the fact iPhone 14 Plus is a terrible value iPhone getting overshadowed by iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max in terms of feature and value. I‘m not saying your reasoning is invalid (they might as well be), but more like stock issue pushes them towards iPhone 14 Plus.

This is a take, it's not fact. I'm still yet to see anyone with a 14 Plus, or anyone who has bought one. There's also barely any mention on this forum and reddit from people who have bought one.
That doesn't mean they aren't selling, except media reports and analysts in numerous articles have said the 14 Plus is not popular. As mentioned above, compared to a 13 Pro or 13 Pro Max it's not great value, even a 12 Pro from the Apple refurb store is better value and has a full warranty.

My 13 Pro Max was brand new from my carrier Vodafone and was the same price as a 14 Plus though back in September. For me it was a better deal but totally understand others may prefer the 14 Plus. If there are instances like you describe where secondhand 13 Pro Max’s are also being sold for £949 in poor conditions, then that truly is a bad deal. Some also prefer the weight of the 14 Plus which is fine.

I agree that tech enthusiasts have a very different preference to the average uninterested consumer. Some of the detail that is discussed on here would be laughed at by those who have no interest in specs and mobile phones in general. The 14 Plus will be a popular phone no doubt.

I haven’t seen a 14 Plus being used in the wild yet either. To be fair I am yet to see a 14 Pro or 14 Pro Max yet either though. All the new iPhone 14’s are rather expensive in my country though and maybe people have different priorities right now.

The 14 plus is available in local Apple Store the 14 pro (max) is not. The non pro reminds me of the 5C which was a flop. For the iphone people seem to prefer the latest and greatest model.

This ^^^. My wife likes a big phone and I know she’d definitely prefer the lighter 14 Plus to the 14 Pro Max. She uses her phone in a very basic way and the Pro model has nothing that would interest her and the weight would be heavy in her opinion.

Do I think the Pro models are flat out a better choice? Definitely (I love my 14 Pro Max). But she’s not into phones the way I and many of us here are.

14 plus is overpriced for what it gives (compared to pro max with a difference of 200$ )
For that 200$ you are getting better cameras/pro motion display/ Dynamic Island /AOD/ Latest chip/flagship phone) So between pro max v plus its no brainer to go with pro max
May be people who are in need of a phone immediately (as pros are taking 3-4 weeks or even higher wait time) and who dont need latest specs (esp who are coming from the 6s, 7, 8, Xr will opt for 14 plus.)

I am sticking with my XS for another year. I was all set to upgrade to the 14 Pro however I found it to be a lot bigger and heavier than I expected. I generally carry my phone in my front pocket, and found the rounded edges of the XS better. I think I will spring for the battery replacement and see what next year brings. My XS still does everything I need it to. Plus it saves one more still very capable device from becoming e-waste.

The 14 Pro Max is already £200 overpriced though and not everybody wants to stretch to £1199 for a mobile phone.

I just ditched my 13 pro for an SE and couldn’t be happier. The pro phones with their stainless steel sides are way too heavy - this is particularly true for the 14 pro max. The 14 plus weighs the same as the 14 pro, which in my opinion is still too heavy but better for a huge phone.

And it’s too bad they bite the bullet and pay the still high price for a 14 plus.

It’s just a bad deal all around for those that the plus is at their “too expensive” mark. They might as well NOT get an iPhone….. but of course that’s a terrible option as iPhone is obviously the best choice.

It’s just sad the plus is only $200 difference from the pro max. It would be a better value decision if it was $300 difference.

(£200? Sorry I don’t know the pound prices)

^or get the SE like the poster above, but then you lose the giant screen :(

I haven't seen one out and about either but to be honest I've only seen an handful of 12 mini/13 mini's since they were released also. I'm thinking Apple will dump the plus just like they dumped the mini and only produce the 6.1 version eventually.. Seems that's the size that sells consistently well..

I would rather get 13 than 14 plus, but never would I buy a pro model, I think they are way overpriced

OP literally tries to bludgeon you with the point that normal people, aka 99% of the iPhone market, aka people NOT on here, are buying and will continue to buy the 14 Plus...and you come back with "barely any mention on this forum".

There really isn't much that can be said about that. Nothing kind, anyway.

The 12 mini and 13 mini are the two most popular phones I see regularly. The minis have ~75% market share among my coworkers and friends, with the balance being the SE and the 12/13 pro. I've never seen a pro max or plus in person (outside of the store).

It's interesting how some people simply can't get used to the weight. I've been using a 13 Pro Max (obviously even heavier than your 13 Pro) since launch and don't even give the weight a passing thought. It's just a normal phone to me. And thank goodness, because there's no way I'd want to give up that large screen, but obviously your priorities are different.

I personally, and most likely not agreed with by the majority, love your post.

Buy what you want. Use what you want. Love what you want.
