As you probably know, people in the tech community dislike the 14 Plus, and the shipments are low

But normal people are starting to upgrade their 5 yr old iPhone 8 or 4 yr old XS
So get your pitchforks and angry comments ready for the people who don't care about phones

They will buy the 14 plus because it's large but standard

And from the 4 or so people I know who have gotten one, they like them

Im not saying it's a good value, but many people don't want a used iPhone 13 Pro Max without warranty, maybe lacking water resistance, having damage, poor quality repairs, activation lock, etc like the tech community recommended to people who want a cheaper, larger iPhone. The 14 plus provides everything they care about at a cheaper price than the pro max
edit: multiple people said "buy a certified refurbished 13 Pro Max if you want a warranty" news flash, apple don't sell refurbished iPhones everywhere, eg in Australia (where I live) they refurbish other things, but not iPhones for some reason

edit 2: yes I agree the 14+ is a poor value, but for non tech enthusiasts, it may be worth saving the $320AU if they couldn't care less about a zoom camera, 120hz, stainless steel, etc

Yep, just upgraded my parents to a 14 and 14 plus. They are seniors and went from a XR and 11 pro max and those were more than they needed. I got the 14 pro max myself but I work in IT and use most of what it has. For most, there isn’t a reason for people to get more than the regular 14.

They didn’t have any pro or pro max at the store. And the 14 they had a bunch of regular ones, but no 14 plus. He had to drive to another store to get one for us in 256 size. So they must be selling if they are having stock issues too.

iPhone 14 Plus = Great phone, terrible price.

I absolutely agree, it’s about £100 more than anybody expected. Not at all surprised that upgrades have slowed this year with the economic downturn and manufacturers upping prices. Interest rates have been put up to discourage spending and to drive prices down, and hopefully phones are one of those less than essential items that gets hit the hardest.

Looking bottom-up (i.e. vs. Android), it's expensive.
Looking top-down (i.e. my horrible experience with US$200 more expensive 14 Pro/not Max), it's okay.

I'm getting the 14+ over here for free, basically with Vodafone. Actually, I'm making money.

Black Friday deal, 2 yr contract, €60 per month and upfront cost of €379. I will sell my 12 mini for €432 on Swappie.

So I'll be paying basically no money, just continuing my VF contract, which is great for unlimited Data and calls etc 5G and Red Roaming outside the EU which is a godsend.

I usually go for the Pro options with Apple, but I don't need a good camera; I probably am weird in that I just don't take pics. I need great battery life when on biz travel, and a bigger screen for quick browsing/emails will be handy. For most media content, I use the iPad or MBP.

For someone like me, this non-pro 14+ is a good choice.

Well…. after handling one in person, I traded my 3rd generation SE in for a Midnight 14 Plus in 128GB. I’ve never traded a phone in that fast before… only 8-9 months with the SE. I like touch-ID a lot, but it’s not worth taking a hit in every other category in a phone. Huge screen upgrade… huge battery upgrade, etc.. Call me crazy, but this damn 14 Plus feels no heavier than the SE does. I don’t know how that’s possible in such a a large phone. I’m absolutely keeping this thing for 2-3 years.

it's a weight/balance thing. golden ratio of phone physics.
It's like the 8 Plus - I never should have traded it for an 11 Pro Max; if I had held out, would still be on a 12 Pro Max right now, instead of a 14 Pro.
Which is a disaster.

Yep. I have my regrets with phone trades too. I traded in my XR for the 3rd generation SE. I shouldn’t have done that. Like I said, I like the touch-ID and the simple basic-ness of the SE. I’m just more of a power-user than I realized. I’ve realized that battery and screen are most important to me now. I have no experience with the 14 Pro and Pro Max phones. I just know they are more money than I want to spend and that they are heavier than I prefer.

I just got my son the 14 plus. Hubby and I have the 14 pro max and since my son is only 12 years old I figured get him the bigger screen without all the bells and whistles. He likes it for his arcade games and he uses the 14 plus way more than he used his 12 we just traded for promotion. We love our 14s here!

My daughter has a 12 - would you say in real life the 14 plus can replace an iPad for videos? (Sometimes)

Yeah I think so. He doesn’t pick up his iPad much anymore. And we got him a nimbus + controller from apple for all those arcade games for Christmas! He’s one happy child!
