The 12 mini and 13 mini are the two most popular phones I see regularly. The minis have ~75% market share among my coworkers and friends, with the balance being the SE and the 12/13 pro. I've never seen a pro max or plus in person (outside of the store).
Great so amongst your friends and workplace the mini's are popular. In the the real world they aren't hence Apple discontinued them. Guaranteed Apple won't discontinue the Pro Max anytime soon. Plus may disappear if sales are similar to the mini

As you probably know, people in the tech community dislike the 14 Plus, and the shipments are low
Actually, if shipments are low and apple has shifted production to the pro, that’s a sign that people outside the tech community are not really buying it.

But, yes, sure, people who just dropped €1150 on a freakin phone are going to like it, I wouldn‘t expect anything else.

Life was so much simpler before iPhone 6. You want iPhone? What color? How much storage? Done.

Life is much simpler now because you can't go wrong with either choice.
In the past you could have a relative coming home with a 8GB 5C or 16GB 6S and you'd know that it was doomed to be technological garbage long before its expiration date.

The tech reviewer community is just one group of people, who usually are big fans of tech and exposed to the best of the best. So they tend to recommend the best offerings as they see the value in (most of) the features.

At the end of the day, it’s an iphone so you know exactly what to expect and it will work great in pretty much every way that a phone needs to. Any of the new models are pretty much sufficient.

Even the iPhone 4 would be a great phone for someone who has never had a smartphone.

Even the SideKick would be a great phone for someone who has never had a smartphone.

It's relative.

And relative to the iPhone 13 or 12, the iPhone 14 is not a significant upgrade. Might as well buy the 14 Pro.

Nobody is saying that the 14 is not a decent phone compared to much older models.

So you are just repeating what everybody has said and expecting them to get angry.

🤷‍♂️

A 14 Plus isn’t a stripped down 14 Pro Max. The 14 Plus has a very different screen. Its been documented several times on the iPhone forum that there are people who can not tolerate the 14 pro max screen — headache/eye strain/dizziness, but can get along fine with the 14 Plus.

In a very real and quantifiable way — the 14Plus is a superior phone compared to the 14PM because of it’s “easier-on-the-nervous-system” screen.

I agree that if someone is upgrading from several years back it is the phone to buy. One of my employees just upgraded from the Xr to the 14 Pro and loves her phone.

The hate is that the 14 series is not a value upgrade from the 13 series.

I think Apple’s misstep is the name. They should’ve called it what it is: iPhone 13s.

Had they named it an “s” product, no one would blame them. Chip shortage, Covid, China and the like explain a smaller than normal upgrade. The error was expecting everyone to jump on a new iPhone that fails to deliver on the level expected for a full upgrade cycle.
have to disagree. 14 is not a 's' series but 13 can be considered as 12s.

14 USP is the design change i.e the dynamic island . otherwise i see no reason for 13 pro owners to upgrade to 14 pros.

I see plenty Pro Max iPhone’s in the wild. Haven’t seen many 14 PMs though, so mine feels exclusive 😆

I haven’t seen a 14 Plus being used in the wild yet either. To be fair I am yet to see a 14 Pro or 14 Pro Max yet either though. All the new iPhone 14’s are rather expensive in my country though and maybe people have different priorities right now.
I've never seen any of the Pro Max models ever. And I live in the US and see thousands of iPhones a year. I'm not saying the sales numbers are fake, but it really seems from my anecdotal experience that the Plus and Pro Max don't actually exist and are some weird conspiracy theory.

Even the "standard" size phones are too large for 90% of people to use (I can palm a basketball and my 13 Pro is uncomfortable to hold, my Watch Ultra is much close to the size I wish my phone was than my phone is). Where are the freaks who buy these tablets with a phone in them? I've yet to meet one.

Seriously, the perfect mobile ecosystem, if you ask me, is a watch as your primary communication device, and ipad as media consumption device and airpods to go with both. Buying a tablet sized phone is a bad compromise. Phones are basically useless and if it wasn't for insane family plan BOGO deals and four figure carrier trade in values I'd happily still be using a 6s since I don't need my phone for anything other than a bridge to my Watch, iPad and Mac. If I could have a phone number without an iPhone I would, in a heartbeat. They've grown so large that they've become a useless form factor.

As you probably know, people in the tech community dislike the 14 Plus, and the shipments are low

But normal people are starting to upgrade their 5 yr old iPhone 8 or 4 yr old XS
So get your pitchforks and angry comments ready for the people who don't care about phones

They will buy the 14 plus because it's large but standard

And from the 4 or so people I know who have gotten one, they like them

Im not saying it's a good value, but many people don't want a used iPhone 13 Pro Max without warranty, maybe lacking water resistance, having damage, poor quality repairs, activation lock, etc like the tech community recommended to people who want a cheaper, larger iPhone. The 14 plus provides everything they care about at a cheaper price than the pro max
spreading fake news like this may make people want to go out buy the 14plus which could very well result in them too enjoying it. :p

I bought a 14 plus and... I love it! It's lighter than the standard sized 13/14 pro and just as fast(if you say you notice a speed difference between an A15 and an A16, you are making up lies on the internet). The screen is bright, crisp, and doesn't give me ProMotion-sickness. The battery can't be killed, been off the charger for 4 hours now and still at 100%. Photos are still great even though I can't zoom into my neighbor's windows or take macro shots of bugs. I am very happy with my purchase even though it's not a 14 pro max, imagine that! I even traded in a 13 pro for it, come at me 😂

Tech forums are a very biased sampling of phone users. It's mostly spec-peepers and enthusiast nerds who see no point in anything but the best of the best, they can't imagine anyone wanting a "lesser" phone. Most people though will see the 14 plus and say "Oh cool, I can get a big phone for $200 cheaper"

14 plus is overpriced for what it gives (compared to pro max with a difference of 200$ )
For that 200$ you are getting better cameras/pro motion display/ Dynamic Island /AOD/ Latest chip/flagship phone) So between pro max v plus its no brainer to go with pro max
May be people who are in need of a phone immediately (as pros are taking 3-4 weeks or even higher wait time) and who dont need latest specs (esp who are coming from the 6s, 7, 8, Xr will opt for 14 plus.)
Where you see a better option, many will see a rip-off. Do you really think the following is worth an extra $200 to the average user?

1. Better Cameras? $200 for slightly better camera and a Zoom lens?
2. ProMotion Display? Can anyone really see the difference?
3. Dynamic Island? Gimmick kinda like Touch Bar on MacBook Pros.
4. Faster CPU but who will notice on phones that are already blazing fast?

Adding those features all up, I would say that is not worth extra $200. I have an iPhone 14 Pro as well.

Discuss.

The lack of a telephoto was the biggest reason I didn't get one. After having it for years, not having one with my 12 was something I regretted the entire time I owned it.

The 14 plus is available in local Apple Store the 14 pro (max) is not. The non pro reminds me of the 5C which was a flop. For the iphone people seem to prefer the latest and greatest model.
Indeed. With the XR-13 the disparity with the Pro was not too much, but it’s really widened with the 14 series, back to the extent of the 5S and 5C

And you all know how that story goes

iPhone 14 Plus is a terrible value iPhone getting overshadowed by iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max in terms of feature and value.
like I said, 13 pro max cannot be bought new anymore
and many people want a warranty
in case you didn't know, in Australia apple doesn't sell refurbished iPhones

Yes they are still available, at least for right now here in the US. Some of the carriers still have new stock on the 13 Pro Max (not all colors and sizes of course though). Once the stock runs out though, that can be another story.
depends where you live, when you buy, what carrier you on, etc
eg my carrier has a super cheap plan but doesn't sell iPhones so I bought my 14 pro max outright, directly from apple
