I bought a 14 plus and... I love it! It's lighter than the standard sized 13/14 pro and just as fast(if you say you notice a speed difference between an A15 and an A16, you are making up lies on the internet). The screen is bright, crisp, and doesn't give me ProMotion-sickness. The battery can't be killed, been off the charger for 4 hours now and still at 100%. Photos are still great even though I can't zoom into my neighbor's windows or take macro shots of bugs. I am very happy with my purchase even though it's not a 14 pro max, imagine that! I even traded in a 13 pro for it, come at me 😂

Tech forums are a very biased sampling of phone users. It's mostly spec-peepers and enthusiast nerds who see no point in anything but the best of the best, they can't imagine anyone wanting a "lesser" phone. Most people though will see the 14 plus and say "Oh cool, I can get a big phone for $200 cheaper"
This is the perfect comment,
many people will love the 14+ and I fully believe having the option there is a good thing

Where you see a better option, many will see a rip-off. Do you really think the following is worth an extra $200 to the average user?

1. Better Cameras? $200 for slightly better camera and a Zoom lens?
2. ProMotion Display? Can anyone really see the difference?
3. Dynamic Island? Gimmick kinda like Touch Bar on MacBook Pros.
4. Faster CPU but who will notice on phones that are already blazing fast?

Adding those features all up, I would say that is not worth extra $200. I have an iPhone 14 Pro as well.

Discuss.
YES
for me it was worth purchasing a pro, but normal people (who this post is about) won't care in the slightest

1. Better camera? Debatable. I see no obvious difference between iPhone 12 and 13 and 14 and 14 Pro. In fact, I’d say Apple has made no hardware improvements on camera for about 5 years and this year is no exception. Software can only do so much.
2. ProMotion display? Immediately noticeable to me compared to my iPhone XS Max. It just feels smoother In general.
3. Dynamic island? Gimmick yes, but cool. Nice to have.
4. Faster processor? If you don’t game, you will be comfortable with iPhone 4 performance. Fight me on this one.

Let me add a few more:
5. Better battery life. Yes, Apple’s battery life claim is misleading as always. iPhone 14 Pro Max has the best battery life overall, not iPhone 14 Plus. (yes ymmv but still)
6. Premium stainless steel frame. This one is subjective but aluminium just feels cheap. Though weight can be their own factor, in which case iPhone 14 Plus wins slightly.
7. ProRAW. Gimmick for most people, but cool if you want the camera works a bit harder and want to preserve more important moment better. Test shows it doesn’t warrant large file size tho, but can provide more details.
8. Wireless charging. For some reason, those iPhone 14 Plus in store has a harder time lining up than iPhone 14 Pro Max. Idk why, and I see a few more iPhone 14 Plus running out of battery despite on charger all day than iPhone 14 Pro Max does.

like I said, 13 pro max cannot be bought new anymore
and many people want a warranty
in case you didn't know, in Australia apple doesn't sell refurbished iPhones
Yes, iPhone 13 Pro Max can’t be bought new anymore (or is it?), but applecare is not the only form of warranty either.
Plus, even with brand New device, more people than you think doesn’t buy applecare either.
And, in case you don’t know, major Carriers in Australia STILL offer brand new iPhone 13 Pro Max with their own warranty, at a slightly lower monthly payment. (Limited stock of course), Although the value proposition from them diminishes as the cost difference is minimal.

The 14 Pro Max is already £200 overpriced though and not everybody wants to stretch to £1199 for a mobile phone.
It’s not a good “value” to you and that’s fine. That’s your opinion and you’re entitled to it. However, pricing is based on how the market will react to it (sales). If something is selling well, it’s not overpriced.

The 13 Pro Max is still available brand new through carriers and retailers even if Apple have discontinued it. A few people including myself have pointed this out to you throughout this thread. I bought a 13 Pro Max very recently.

For purposes of justifying purchasing the inferior device relative to the Pro models.

I think it’s more to highlight to the tech snobs on here that not everybody out there cares about the Pro models.

Just because something is selling well in some countries, it doesn’t mean it’s not overpriced in others either. Where I live these devices have had a £150 price hike from last year, so my perception of value has changed significantly and many are reacting based on these factors.

Apple doesn’t want to sell the 14 Plus. It only exists to get you to buy the Pro or Pro Max. It’s priced that way. If it was priced at $700 or $800 like it should be, a lot more people would just get it, myself included.

Tried the Plus for giggles and honestly loved it - don’t care about huge camera system, DI, stainless steel, etc. Loved the weight.

The problem is that it’s $930 unlocked and for $70 more I can get the 14 Pro. I’m giving up battery life and screen size but gaining features that will last longer. I’m not the type to upgrade every year so I’d rather get the best value now. I don’t care about the DI but it’s still the future. I don’t care about the telephoto/48MP/macro mode, but it’s there just in case. I don’t care about the A16 vs A15, but it will likely get another 1-2 years more of iOS updates. I do care about 120hz and for the Plus to not even have 90hz is silly at this price point.

And it’s worse if you’re comparing 2-3 year monthly prices. It’s only a few more bucks a month to get the Pro or Max. I’m financing through the Apple store for two years, but most will finance through a carrier.

Not debatable at all... The sensor is much larger on the 14 Pro and Pro Max. A larger sensor captures more light, resulting in a much cleaner and better quality photo. 1/1.28 size sensor is only a touch smaller than a 1" sensor on an actual dedicated camera. Results in the photo thread at the top of the forum speak for themselves. Software has been improved as well.

ProRaw isn't a gimmick either. It may not be used by everyone, but it is there if they need/want it, it's not a gimmick though as it actually works. If you understand photography it's a superb addition, allowing much greater room to edit your photos for those that want to do that. I don't think you understand what a RAW photo is, and how it is used. Professionals only shoot in raw, and the room it gives to edit the image are massive over a JPEG. You've also got the full 48MP being used in ProRaw on the 1x camera, resulting in massive files with much more detail, allowing crops without any noticeable drop off in quality. What test shows it doesn't warrant a large file size?! Because all RAW files are large as they contain so much more information than a regular JPEG image.

I am up for the discussion.
1. 200$ is not just for these better cameras . Its combination of all the features i.e better cameras/pro motion / latest chip/ telephoto lens/ flagship and more premium looking phone and last but not the least its resale value
Also just for record, the unlocked iphone 14 series are 30$ more so the difference is not 200$ but just 170$
2. There is for sure a difference between a pro motion display V non pro.
3. DI if DI is gimmick y do u think the pro models are selling far better than the regular phones? If this features comes to a regular phones for a 15 series then you will almost similar number or orders for regular 15 v a pro 15. That the reason apple is bringing this feature to the regular models also for next year (as per rumors)
4. To some extent i agree on faster CPU as subsequent chips may not have a huge difference in performance.

If 200$ is more for all the above differences , then can you please justify the 899$ tag for 14 plus ? compared to a iphone 12 or some android phones?

3 out of 10 people may think 14 plus is worthy than a 14 pro max , may be due to its light weight or price or as a secondary device but for majority of people its no brainer to upgrade to 14 PM at 1099$ than to a 14 Plus at 899$/929$.

if you are not convinced feel free to create a poll :)

This is a take, it's not fact. I'm still yet to see anyone with a 14 Plus, or anyone who has bought one. There's also barely any mention on this forum and reddit from people who have bought one.
That doesn't mean they aren't selling, except media reports and analysts in numerous articles have said the 14 Plus is not popular. As mentioned above, compared to a 13 Pro or 13 Pro Max it's not great value, even a 12 Pro from the Apple refurb store is better value and has a full warranty.
I think that was OP’s point—I don’t think most people that buy them are members of macrumors forums 😂

I gather that was the case, however the reports saying the regular 14 Plus isn't selling and the fact that their readily available when most other models aren't suggest the demand is low amongst anyone, whether they're on this forum or out in the big wide world.

In fact, they are so available I think it would be the only model still in stock heading towards Christmas shopping season, at least for my local Apple Store, while iPhone 14 Pro Max is not available for weeks.

It depends. In my country, the 128GB iPhone 14 Plus is priced at almost $1200. The 14 Pro base is $1300, and the 14 Pro Max base is $1400. I bet most people would just get the Pro or Pro Max since they feel that they're already spending $1000+, so why not. The biggest draw of the 14 Plus, which was a max iPhone for less than $1000, is simply non-existent.

It's interesting how some people simply can't get used to the weight. I've been using a 13 Pro Max (obviously even heavier than your 13 Pro) since launch and don't even give the weight a passing thought. It's just a normal phone to me. And thank goodness, because there's no way I'd want to give up that large screen, but obviously your priorities are different.
This is why it’s great they make multiple phone sizes! There’s an iPhone for everyone!

I agree that the plus will be popular. I know lots of people with 6s plus, 8 plus, and they’re ripe to upgrade in the next year. The plus, if nothing except the name, if the obvious upgrade path

I do love my bug photos 🤣

Great so amongst your friends and workplace the mini's are popular. In the the real world they aren't hence Apple discontinued them. Guaranteed Apple won't discontinue the Pro Max anytime soon. Plus may disappear if sales are similar to the mini
I would prefer apple sell both the mini and the plus. I have the 12 mini but wish for more battery. I could go for plus but needs to be lighter. Regular 14 is the compromise. Or maybe Apple just needs to make something in between the mini and regular to become the new regular.

The 13 mini had improved battery over the 12 mini, so there is that option I guess?

cool? my best mate has the 14 plus and enjoys the phone. It's an iphone at the end of the day so no shock people enjoy them. I still don't think it's good value for what features you get but not like it matters it is still a good phone which will do the job for most people if they do buy it.

Secondary device - definitely a small universe, but describes me and is why I’m considering the plus. 14PM is analogous to the heavy 16” m1 MacBook. These things are just too heavy.
