"It's the biggest ! But we won't give you any information to verify our claim"
Ha ha ha, my first thought as well...some creative metrics used to define parameters that show Beats 1 to be first of all a "radio station" and second of all the "biggest."

Damn, I guess I am a walking zombie as I listen to Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Vivaldi, Haydn.....
It is getting harder and harder to find any "radio" that plays these...
I'm sure you can find something online that plays that. My wife has no problem finding it when she wants to hear it. Expecting a music service like Beats 1 that's all about discovering new music to play it... well, that's asking a bit much.

So Apple Music says its radio station is the biggest in the world? What a coincidence!

I heard Donald Trump said Donald Trump is the best president in the world too. What are the odds?

I have absolutely no use for Beats 1. For everyone on here complaining about it, I absolutely get your point, but changing the format or including more variety is not really the answer. We don't need a curated radio station anymore!

Guys, we now have devices in our pockets that can play virtually any song at a moment's notice, and whether it's Apple Music, Google, or Spotify, we have access to great algorithms and curated playlists that fit exactly what we like to listen to. And if you don't like what comes up, just hit the skip button!

Stop worrying about a stupid curated radio station and trying to change what songs they play and just go listen to the songs you like the most. Life is too short!

What's wrong with Taylor Swift? Music taste is subjective, or course. But whatever else, 1989 is a great pop album.

Not everyone likes all genres, but all genres, including pop, have great music.

You say that music should embrace diversity, and then in the same breath dismiss part of that very diversity.

I apologize for any ambiguity! I also think Taylor is talented & her music "fun"; to be clear- I was NOT calling for a boycott of Swift, merely commenting that diversity is withering w/ "sounds like" artists and bands dominating the airwaves.
I was saying that Drake/Swift ARE radio right now. Though they may be individually awesome, this does not make for radio that I'm interested in; as I said- it feels "whitewashed" to me.

Honestly, I still prefer music curated by a human. A computer can't get a feel for the music, so while it can recommend me stuff other people with similar tastes like, it can't introduce me to something new, or something I haven't heard yet, that may blow my mind.

I've been able to listen to what I already like for years. I want new music.

I havee iTunes on Windows and it has a jazz genre in the app. Maybe your app needs to be updated?

Also, as mentioned above, the jazz genre also appears in the app on my iPhone.

But how exact and deep is it? Last time I tried to find any punk bands on Apple Music it was interesting to say the least

This is the most arrogant, hipster thing I've ever read. You know enough about Drake to know that he was on DeGrassi but think claiming that you've avoided ever hearing one of his songs during the last decade makes you sound cool? No one cares what you listen to or what you like. But enjoy your "carefully curated" Pandora stations that play the same 15 songs on repeat.

I didn't mean to sound snobby!
I guess, in a nutshell- I was just saying, in support of the other two posters that said they're unaware of/unfamiliar with Drake: "I understand... me too".
It honestly wasn't meant as a "my eclectic tastes are superior to yours" kinda post; for real.

I've read your posts... you seem ok to me. I got no beef w/ you & obviously didn't mean to strike a nerve or whatever & bring out that kind of hostility. I assure you; it rises from misunderstanding my point.

"Apple Music is Number One" -Apple Music

Anyway, it's a serious shame that the UI is so terrible. The blurring of the lines between accessing/buying local music and accessing Apple Music is a serious disaster and a major reason why I cancelled my Apple Music Subscription in favor of a Google Play Music subscription. I haven't looked back on that one and, as an Apple fan, that's a serious problem.

Just more defensiveness on your part. My original post, a few minutes before yours, apparently shook you.

Yes, yes, you shook me all night long :D

Of course my response to you came after your original post. Kinda obvious. That is what a response is, right? Anyway I totally get you believe music is binary: Beats 1 or American Standards. I think that is wrong thinking and factually incorrect too but you are allowed your beliefs, true enough.

The in-fighting is worse at Apple than it is on MacRumors at this point.

It's clear Iovine is trying to squeeze out Eddy Cue. The question is, why is Tim Cook allowing this to play out in public the way that it is? It's very clear from these interviews that team Iovine is playing things up to make them look bigger and better than they are.

Nice try, I never made that claim. Seems to be just more projection and defensiveness on your part.

Apparently not so obvious. Your post, a few minutes after my original post, was not in response to what I wrote.

1. If you didn't mean for your post to suggest a binary choice then please explain what you meant when you post that the people complaining about Beats 1 music programming want Kate Smith. You have yet to do that in any of our back and forth -- only telling me that isn't what you meant. OK, so what did you mean?

2. Confused about the second part of this. Are you referring to my direct response to your post or my response made to a different poster? My response to you is my response to you. My response to the other poster was to him or her, not directed to you at all, hence I quoted him in that post, not you.

"(although Apple declined to offer specific listener numbers)."

And that's the most important bit of all. Its good people streamed the same millions of time. but that doesn't mean anything.

I can listen to the same song a million times on Apple music, that doesn't necessarily mean it's popular.

Sigh. Couldn't even go one comment before someone started flogging this dead horse.

Pretty simple solution to put that horse to rest. But as long as Apple is charging 2015 pricing for a 1.5 year old computer in 2017 the deserve to get bashed a bit.

Kate Smith was a random choice to illustrate people have different tastes. I listen to Beats 1 to be exposed to, discover, and listen to new music.

Sorry you're confused.

This is their MO these days though isn't it.

"Sales are off the charts" (no numbers to back it up)

"More online orders than any other pro notebook" (no numbers, notebooks only available online)

The Apple Music stuff just comes accross as trying to paper over the cracks. It was a disaster at launch and wasn't much better last time I tried it a few months ago.

I'm not sure you can trust the subscriber numbers either. A major carrier were giving away 6 month subscriptions here in the U.K. A while ago. Are they counting these freebies?

Last time I used Apple Music it was as good as unusable on mobile data, streams pausing every thirty seconds. I spoke to iTunes support and they told me I should save everything to my device. Seriously?! If I wanted to download everything I wouldn't bother with streaming services at all.

I tried it at launch and again a few months ago I won't be back a third time.

I love Apple Music.
I love Beats 1.
I love Drake.

But, to be fair, I'm also the target audience: Millennial, university grad, own my own business, diverse, inclusive, multi-cultural, open to new and different things.

Anyway, most of you aren't the target demo, so it makes sense that ya'll don't know who Drake is or think Beats 1 is rubbish.

That's the beauty of it all. There's plenty available on Apple Music for you guys to listen to as well :)

Lots questionable with Apple's marketing claims these days. They'll cherry pick metrics and exaggerate their significance. Apple Pay's prevalence is one example.

Beats 1 is apparently a strategy to sell iPhones to a younger, cash-strapped crowd. It was not meant to engage other demographics with varying music preferences. After all, other genres don't call songs or tracks beats.

No, we shall not. This site came up with this name when Apple hardly made anything except macs. It is almost 2 decades later now and Mac is not any more the main focus for Apple. This site isn't gonna change it's name just because some mac obsessed guys want exclusivity.

Your logic is reversed. If anything, it's conceivable that MacRumors will have to change its name eventually to reflect Apple's product offerings. As the Mac becomes irrelevant, so too does its meaning.
