That's their only move, though. What are they going to do that Apple couldn't? Apple already gives out helluva product. If you watched TV or movies, you would think Apple had 114% market share in PCs, phones, and tablets. They could have just "bought" Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre and brought them into their industry discussions if they were so valuable. No reason to buy the whole company.

They don't just want Jimmy or Dre, they want the company. If anything, they probably want the company, not the owners. But they need them because they want them to continue to build what they've been doing. So....

I think we're are approaching a special time. Hip hop is becoming mature. The weird situation where kids think it's for old people because their parents grew up on it, but the grandparents still hate it. Many totes of music have gone through the cycle, now it's rap's time.

The same Steve Jobs who was video chatting with Dr.Dre at an apple event years ago?The same Steve Jobs who had a face to face meeting with Dr.Dre when he wanted Eminem on the iTunes Store? That Steve Jobs?

Any man as great as Steve Jobs is not as close minded and ridiculous as some of you on this forum.(not the majority, just the loud minority)

I wouldn't be surprised of Steve tried to by Beats and they didn't take the deal to avoid working with Steve. I know several start-up CEOs that told Apple to walk away when Steve was there and are having coffee in the middle of the loop as they are back now with Steve gone.

You know my worry

And this if pretty deep rooted re Apple.

Woman from Burberry (Fashion Brand)
Nike tie in (Fashion Brand)
Dr Beats (Fashion Brand)

Above all else, to me this SCREAMS that Apple feels it cannot stay at the top and compete by designing, making and selling the best PRODUCTS

They have to try and use Brand and Fashion to get customers. Not the product.

That, if nothing else is a Sad admission :(

They have used that strategy for at least the past decade. You should have noticed by now.

The only advantage I can see in this story for Apple would be their hardware headphones-speakers and probably a useful feedback for Logic X from Dr Dre and his music composers. Maybe he could turn Logic X into a "mainstream" app.

I know this is their largest acquisition in history, but are there any examples of founders of acquired companies becoming Apple execs automatically?

Steve Jobs founded NeXT which was then purchased by Apple and he became an exec. It happens all the time...

----------

In next weeks news, next iteration of OS X to be called OS X 10.Dre

Don't you mean OS X 10.10 Compton?

From reading all the comments of people here debasing Dr. Dre it appears they prefer that he was to be the one who swept the floors at night rather than have a seat in the boardroom. It's Dre day and everyone's celebrating.

It's funny how on forums you can't paint a picture of who a person is or what the look like by their post. A story like this paints a very real picture and makes me lose a lot of respect for members on this forum.

Why wouldn't they want them on their senior staff they did in two years what it took Apple decades to do!

You'd think by reading most of these posts, that everyone in here currently runs a multi-billion dollar company....oh wait.

I hope this deal collapses, from valuation numbers to these possible appointees everything sounds like a joke...
I suppose if AAPL buys this empty business it prevents Samsung or Facebook to do the same.

Explain to me how you create a valuation number for a business you are interested in buying.

Can you sense the GIGANTIC CLASH between these two videos:

http://youtu.be/2ygl7xSFn2M
http://youtu.be/_ynXKHC9Wo4

Clean, Crisp, Calm, Quality, Precision, Tastefulness, Detail, etc etc, all the things people have admired and loved Apple for, for many years now.

And this:

http://youtu.be/s2e5ZibypDk

And can you not understand how this screams OMG HORRIFIC to many ?

To myself the top two video's would make me think, yes, I love that, I wish to go now and view some Apple products and perhaps buy one. I love that message.

The other video makes me think, Oh god, horrid, never would I consider any product in any way associated with people that have that way of expressing themselves in that fashion, esp in a publicity viewable video.

You do not represent the billions of people on earth. Different strokes and all that...

----------

watch the video, you cant put out a video of yourself drinking and swearing and expect to be taken serious in the corporate world.

Very odd response to an accusation of racism. Almost like you rushed to prove him right.

Do you know which demographic spends the most money on music?

why hasnt no one mentioned the fact that dr Dre will be key in developing the healthbook app. hasnt people heard his song with eminem, I need a doctor?

apple gets key player for music in iovine for itunes and an established doctor for healthbook

Why wouldn't it? Shoddy headphones whose only redeeming factor is the name "beats" on it.

And Dr... is seriously an affront to people who worked hard to earn that!

As someone said here earlier... Google buys Nest and Apple buys beats. Who would have thought Google would make the classy choice in choosing an acquisition thats both innovative and functional?

I hate to say this and have refrained from saying this before but now Its hard to resist.."Steve Jobs would never have touched that brand with a stick"!

You say its about the music subscription service? Then Pandora or Spotify would have been a better or yet the best choice!

Yeah great nest. A company with 20% of the revenue of beats and whose second product was a smoke detector that could accidently be turned off.

You are lauding google for buying a thermostat company.

Is that some US point of view? I can not name any other region in the world where hip hop is mainstream : Asia, nope, Middle East no way, Africa, not the case, Europe, hopefully not. The more I think about it, the more it looks like a US acquisition for US people.

I will crush your head with a single link:

It is pretty amazing that something like this exposed all the bigots here.

The 752nd post!

None of you geniuses seem to get this point: you can't predict or pretend to know anything about the future by looking at the past (the time marked by clocks which never quite catches up to "now.")

Apple wouldn't drop $3B on something that wasn't worth it. So no matter how little anything about Beats Music may *seem* worth that much, at least a few people know about what *is* worth it about Beats Music.

We'll find out about it in due course.
