i don't have a problem with it being part of an existing app, but no an additional all..

Will people still say the same "It's not an issue" when we see iPhone are bundled with 30+ additional apps in the near future?

Probably, after all, Apple know what's best for everyone. :D. People will complain but they will buy it anyway.

I can't keep tack of all these different streaming services. I just want one that has all the songs, the ability to upload my own music into the cloud, excellent radio features, and a clean design on both desktop and mobile.

Yeah, me either. Heck, I really have good luck with AccuRadio and that's free. They even play Zeppelin and various other artists that I thought wouldn't be a part of streaming services.

Even so, Beats as a brand is simply nauseating and vomit inducing. It's associated with a total gangster thug and $30 dollar headphones that they charge $300 bucks for. They'd better allow it to be deleted or whatever if they shove it on everyone.

In addition to Beats they should bundle in some unremovable U2 ringtones that you have to pay to unlock. Obviously I have what it takes to be the EVP of Clever in the post-SJ era at :apple:

rubbish what you proposed has completely overlooked the income stream from in-ringtone purchases and would effectively give the entire ring tone away for a single fee. And thats before we even get into ring-ads and premium ring-streaming.

Not the standards I'd expect for EVP of Clever :p

Why not just replace iTunes Radio in the Music app with this? We don't need another bundled app that can't be deleted.
Why not integrate iTunes Radio, Beat Music and the iOS Music app into a one single app that offers free ad-supported streaming, paid subscription and the the traditional Music app in a one single easy to use app? This would offer an all-in-one alternative for people forced to jump between the iOS Music app and third-party apps.

Estimates put Beats' subscriber base at just 110,000, dwarfed by several other services such as Spotify that offer both free and paid options. Apple's acquisition of Beats has been seen as major avenue to boost interest in the service, but so far cross-promotion has been fairly limited. A revamp of Beats under the iTunes banner and including access directly in iOS may, however, substantially improve customer interest.

It's going to have to. I wonder how old that 110,000 number is, remember seeing that at the time Apple bought Beats, or one pretty close to it. If the streaming service was the jewel in the crown of that purchase there's a time window to monetize it and that window is closing.

People are getting more savvy to subscription services as even more companies try to move to them, for obvious reasons. Beats music isn't (IMO) the best value subscription service at this point and I don't yet see how Apple is going to make it competitive enough to win.

Apple, stop trying to make Beats Music happen.

It will not happen. It is not going to happen. IT WILL NEVER 'HAPPEN'.

Spotify already has 50 million subscribers - 12.5 million of them Premium. And way more music, features, offline listening, etc.

Just stop trying to make it happen. I get secondhand embarrassment - the same way they tried to make their "Maps" app happen. Google Maps is better in almost every single possible way. So is Spotify.

Apple, you dropped the ball on streaming music because you got comfortable with your iTunes format. Admit that, suck it up, and innovate new services or products that might actually catch on. This is reminiscent of Google trying to make Google+ and Google Play 'happen'. It won't.

:apple:

so will this be like Newstand were you can't delete it
No, Newsstand is worse, I have to use it because a few apps can only exist within Newsstand. Other bundled apps like Stocks, Notes, etc. can be put into a folder on the last page where they do zero harm.

----------

apple is turning into Microsoft with their forced bundling!

lol what's next apple? Stickers on your iPhone saying A8 chip inside?!

The problem with (Windows) PCs is the bundling of third-party apps (and stickers) which Microsoft or the PC manufacturer is paid for. That's another level completely. Who is complaining about iPhoto and iTunes being bundled with OS X?

----------

Now that, that should be removable. They better not force that as a required and non-removable app. Especially not if they're still offering 16GB as the entry level storage.

You mean another 12 MB app (like Podcasts) will be strongly felt? I am all for allowing us to delete those apps but there a lot of other stock apps that a lot of people don't use (Stocks, Notes, etc.).

Probably, after all, Apple know what's best for everyone. :D. People will complain but they will buy it anyway.

It's true, I just want to be able to delete what I wish on my phone, but I am told otherwise. Could do that with Windows and OSX over the years but it's different this time because....it's different??

Actually wouldn't mind some customization for iOS8 and Yosemite as well since I am not a teenage girl.

But you can put it in a folder, put the folder on the last home screen and shut up about it!

It's never going to happen, deletion of default apps.

Never say never. :)

In fact, you already can hide at least one default app that I'm aware of.

In the Settings on an iPhone (and, I'm guessing, iPod touch), there is the preinstalled/bundled Nike + iPod app. You can toggle the app on or off. When on, it appears on the home screen. Off, and it disappears.

Now, if Apple would only allow us to do that with all of the preinstalled/bundled apps.

or they could integrate the Beats Music service into iTunes Radio. So that within iTunes Radio you have the choice of going free ad-based or paid subscription-based.

Unless they want to keep using the Beats brand as a music subscription service outside of iOS, it makes little sense to operate two separate subscription services side by side under different names.

I wish I could integrate Spotify and iTunes/Music app into one. I don't want separate playlists, separate play counts, separate ratings. Since third-party apps can access the music stored on an iOS device, I wonder if this would be possible.

If they want to bundle it into iOS, I'm fine with it. It better be free though. It would make no sense having an extra undeleteable app if it didn't work right out of the box. Otherwise, if they want me to pay for it, I better be able to delete it from my sight so I don't have to be constantly reminded of it. I already don't like the "buy" badge attached onto every piece of music played on my phone.

I'm really tired of those ********* bundled "apps"...

There should be an option to hide the "Camera" icon from the Springboard (you can access it from the control center anyway), "Maps" if you don't use it, "Videos", "Stockings", "Game Center", "Kiosk", "iTunes Store" and a BIIIIG excetera... especially that really useless "TIPS" app... "FaceTime", "Calculator", etc. etc. etc.

It also should be illegal to include Beats Music inside iOS... it's not fair competition (just like the EU did before with Microsoft and its Internet Explorer browser integrated into Windows)...

Where with inside iOS you mean inside the Music app. And iTunes Radio is already there, if nobody takes offence with its integration, than Beats integration will also face no legal challenges.

A dominant market position only becomes illegal if you abuse it. And of course, only if it is actually a dominant market position. Which iTunes Radio isn't.

Apple is risking to become the Jack of all trades, master of none. After iTunes Radio still unheard of outside the US of A and Australia, Siri's functionality being limited in many countries, Maps still not perfect, iCloud a mixed bag, the iTunes store a mess, Apple TV lacking content in most countries, Apple Pay only available in the USA, now they want to add Beats Music into the mix. Maybe it is time for Apple to repair the existing problems before adding new ones. The mess is getting bigger all the time, and I don't think anyone actually wants Beats Music in the first place.

I would prefer it be a standalone app versus integrated into the music app like iTunes radio. But honestly, I would prefer that it stay off my device completely. I have nothing against beats music streaming service, but I should be the one to decide if an app is installed on my device.
You would prefer that Apple doesn't add new features to iOS if they result in a new icon on the home screen?

It is one thing being able to hide/delete it. It is another thing wishing that Apple only adds features that interest you.

Im sure Im not the only one here but I've been thinking lately, Apple really needs to stop bundling apps with iOS. Give me a break why are we forced to have all these apps on our phones when the base GB size for the iPhone 6 is 16GB?! Its ridiculous! If Apple keeps bundling apps with iOS releases I think there will be no more room for our content (music, photos, videos etc.). My friend has an 8GB iPhone 5C and she can only take like 10 photos because of the size limit and how much space iOS already takes up.

I feel there are 3 things apple can do:

1. Start the base GB size at 32GB or higher
2. Give users the option to delete stock apps no one uses
3. Or just not bundle them in at all and give us the option to download them from the App Store.

This is getting out of hand

Spotify who does that model for instance has never made an actual profit. So maybe Apple hopes that eventually their business will collapse since it's not sustainable and then people will go to the next best thing which would presumably be Beats.
So, Apple is offering a paid service to undercut Spotify until the latter collapses? I'm not sure I'm following you.

An app like Podcasts is 12 MB. There really are bigger fish to fry than this.

it all adds up I suppose

If it's built into iOS it'll be less like 'I'm choosing beats over Spotify' and more 'I use my iPhone to stream music. 'How?' 'I dunno. It's just built in.'

Like playing music, surfing the web, reading email, calling other phones, receiving messages, taking pictures. How? I dunno. It's just built in. Where is the line between adding features and driving out competitors? With the Internet Explorer the 'driving out a competitor' was only possible because Microsoft had a dominant position in the personal computer market.

With iOS, Apple cannot drive out Spotify and Co. because Spotify has a huge market left with Android. Bundling is not illegal, it only illegal if it is abused to shut down a competitor. Apple Maps did not kill Google Maps and thus was not illegal.

It really is. Beats Music WILL NOT CATCH ON. It won't. Mark my words, this post, quote me in 10 years from now if you want, but there is TOO MUCH momentum in Spotify to overcome. And it's free. Unless Beats Music changes drastically, they will NEVER have marketshare.

Someone else already posted it: jack of all trades, master of none. They arent focusing on doing things BETTER, just...doing them, because others are.

Customer loyalty alone ain't gonna carry you that far. Them facts.

That's a really good point, actually.

I remember those days well, when MS got hammered by the courts, especially EU, for bundling a browser with its OS.
Billions of dollars in fines.. huge implications for the company... etc.

And yet nowadays, bundling of stuff with an OS is standard.

How very interesting...

Adding features to a product (any product) is not illegal. Cars for example often come with navigation software. That is not illegal, it would only be illegal if one manufacturer had 90+% market share and could thus kill third-party navigation system companies.

Apart from a browser and media player, what has Microsoft "forced bundled" into their OS?

The difference between bundling and adding features is just one of user interface. Bundling is never a problem per se (as adding features is not a problem). It only becomes a problem if it drives competitors out of the market.

It is one thing being able to hide/delete it. It is another thing wishing that Apple only adds features that interest you.

It's repetitive. They already have iTunes Radio in the OS. Additionally, it's not a feature. The article says that it would remain a paid service. Don't put anything on my device by default that requires me to pay for it to work.

It's like installing freemium apps on devices I've already paid for.
