This seems more like a move aimed at uneducated investors rather than having any chance to take off.

People want to pay a small fee per month to play any song whenever they want on any device as well as options for curated stations or stations based on their likes.

That's why Spotify took off and and iTunes continues to decline. Beats was never popular because its simply another Pandora which while before Spotify was the best option, now, all of these models fail. Why pay for Beats, Pandora, or iTunes Match, when I can get Spotify and have the best of both worlds. On Demand playing and curated playing.

Until Beats offers on-demand option it is destined to fail. Presumably it doesn't and won't offer that because then there would be far less profit for Apple. Spotify who does that model for instance has never made an actual profit. So maybe Apple hopes that eventually their business will collapse since it's not sustainable and then people will go to the next best thing which would presumably be Beats.

I assume by your post you don't realize on demand is available with Beats just like it is in Spotify.

so will this be like Newstand were you can't delete it

yes, be mad at this grave social injustice and the virtual shackles it is clamping on your very lifestyle.

Nobody said it would be a separate app. And nobody said you couldn't put it in a folder if it was.

Panic is needless at this point.

(And Apple bundling their OWN software is different from PC makers taking payments to bundle other companies' junk. Many people don't mind that Apple integrates a lot of software. I never touch Stocks, and toss it in a folder, but I have no emotions to spend against it.)

please, do not use reason and common sense in this place. it is forbodden!

HTC Beats

If this makes the music sound really good then I think I would definitely love it. I am not sure how HTC did it but they launched HTC 8X that had beats in it and the quality of sound was way better than my iphone or any other phone.

To be honest, I've gotten the sense from reading any threads about Beats Music that people have not tried it and really don't understand what the actual offering is. Instead, people just want to snipe with comments about "bloat" and what a "waste of money" Apple's purchase of Beats was.

There is a very clear use case for this type of product for a broad audience of people. I don't get all of the pushback on the notion that some people like and use streaming services.

yet more force feeding

Apple's force feeding us more and more.
I used to defend the walled, curated garden that is the Apple eco system, while it was young and fresh. Now I'm being annoyed with overgrowth and weeds.

APPLE STOP PUSHING US TO USE APPS WE DON'T WANT!

ffs, we pay for your overpriced storage that we can't expand and you take up more and more room on our iDevices without our consent.

It wouldn't be so bad if you'd allow us to use older iOS versions or turn off the constant update reminders.

We pay a premium price but are no longer treated like premium customers.
Your 1984 mantra (ad) is dead.

I'd hate for this to happen:

Hey Sir Idiot Ive,

Never will I upgrade to have crappy beats on my iPhone. You already crapped all over the UI, I don't need any Dre, snizzle wizzle apps on my phone.

Where is the cohesive roadmap?

What is the goal here?

I hope its not just a shoehorn of their latest company purchase, into ios..

To expand the capabilities of your device and offer a new service that allows unlimited listening to music for the price of a single album per month?

This is just a classic case of "because they can." Just like the U2 automatic album download fiasco. Not that I hate Beats or U2, but it really should be up to the user whether to allow something on their device or not. If it comes pre-installed, you should be able to remove it, simple as that. Since there are some native apps you can't delete, I've created a "Unused" folder, but they still take up space.

woohoo. buy it now... price of one album per month, or 2 lattes, or ... never mind...

Dr. Dre, is that you ?

Yes, IT SUCKS compared to spotify.

My point was simply that a lot of people here are so caught up in hating Beats as a brand that they haven't bothered to understand what the product is, how it could be useful, or how it compares to competitors.

At the very least, you're saying that streaming services are a good thing, but you prefer a different one than Apple offers. That's fine. Many people are acting as if streaming services are the boogey man or something.

I don't Get it. They should have included Beats in 8.0.1 or not at all. At this point they should wait until GT produces sapphire screens...no one is going to Bend over backwards for Beats. Apple just needs to Orient themselves correctly or they will lose all of their Pride.

At least Safari feels snappier of late...

No, we're not!
Streaming is good and done a lot better by Spotify, last.fm, rdio and even iTunes Radio for the $25/year bundled in with iTunes Match, but the main point of the OP article is building it into iOS. Forcing us to waste space without the ability to delete it like so many other useless Apps that are now part of the bloated iOS system.

Why are you criticizing others that don't like YOUR choice in streaming radio ?

Ok... Its one thing to put something in an OS I don't want at all. Like podcast for an example. BUT its a completely different thing to put something in to an OS that you must pay for to use. And its not even a one time payment. Its monthly or yearly or something like that. That's not cool. You can't do that...

Heh, I'm not criticizing anyone for their choice of music service(s). What I am criticizing people for are the following:
  1. Making comments about the utility of streaming services without actually having tried one
  2. Jumping to conclusions about the manner in which this functionality will be built into iOS. The main article here could've been written by any of us at any point in the last several months, as it is a given that the streaming service will be integrated into iOS eventually. The point is that no one really knows how. People are making the assumption that Apple is simply going to require the current Beats Music app to be installed on every device going forward. The reality is that they will likely re-brand and integrate the functionality into the Music app. In which case, it will be neither bloat ware nor an extra app on the home screen.

So Apple should rip out iCloud as well, then?

We don't have to use iCloud, do we?

oh .....

Apple is staring to get all Android-y...

Just pray they don't start bundling every app under the sun "by default"

I don't mind apps i download to device,,, i have that option, but apps i will never intend to use ? depends how many,,,, some are ok, like the defaults, but beats ?

We don't have to use iCloud, do we?

Do we have to use or pay for Apple's streaming music service?

Do we have to use or buy songs, movies, or ringtones in iTunes?

I don't get what all of the fuss is about. The streaming service will likely be integrated into the Music app. If you don't want to use that portion, don't. Not a big deal?

I don't think iCloud just sits there taking up space on the device. I think we are required to sign in or activate iCloud. Don't really remember. I did it with iOS 5 so that was awhile ago.

I have friends who do not use iCloud. Son is IT and he advised them not to.

IMO, the only way this could possibly be beneficial to the user base is if this isn't an "app" at all and instead it's well integrated into the other iOS music services. As a standalone bundled app in iOS it is 100% bloatware, pretty much by definition. And it provides zero user benefit in comparison to an optional app store download.

I just wish we could hide integrated apps without having to resort to things like enabling the parental controls and throwing unused apps into a specific folder... That's all I ask!
