But are they any good? My daughter fancies a pair but I just don't hear it.

If I want a phone I go to Apple, If I want a camera I go to Nikon, If I want headphones I go to Bose, I go to Sennheiser, I go to the people that know music and have a track record of creating devices for audiophiles.

Sennheiser Yes Bose, no one who can seriously call himself audiophile would even touch a Bose headphone with a stick!

What made Apple unique many years ago was offering computers in fun colors when every other manufacturer was pretty much using black, white, gray and silver. These days - computers, tablets, phones, etc come in many colors.

Actually, these days computers, tablets, etc. come in silver, black, gold, pink and white. That's all. I miss the early 2000's... those colourful iMacs were just so playful and fun to use.

LOL @ the people putting Apple down for adding a new color to their set of headphones and blaming them for lack of innovation. It wasn't like Apple put out a press release about it. MR did.

I liked the see-thru graphite iMac. The flower power...eh. Seemed too gender specific.

What is with Apple's love of Rose Gold. I don't mind it, but I think there are other colors that may be better. Lets have some different selections other then space gray, rose gold white, black.

Next product announcement: sympathetic grey and unapologetic beige.

I used to be a big Apple fan and user. Now I'm just more of a committed and slightly disgruntled Apple user.

IMO. the snarky comments are mostly well deserved. If you step back and take an objective look at the "big picture" with Apple, it's clear to me something's not right with things. Right before Jobs passed away, they claimed he had several years worth of product ideas in the pipeline. I look at what's happened since then and feel like I can just watch those ideas draining out.

IMO, the Beats purchase was a bad move. You can just look at the reviews of the Beats Music app and how so many users loved it, but now strongly dislike the forced move to Apple Music. Meanwhile, it caused Apple to buy into this headphone production when it conflicted directly with the earbuds it already manufactured. To this day, it doesn't seem like Apple figured out a good way to integrate it? Why do iPhones ship with white Apple earbuds instead of some sort of Beats branded earbud instead? Why did Beats Music get cancelled, vs. re-branding Apple Music as the new Beats Music upgrade? How come it used to be other companies like HP bragged about featuring Beats audio integrated into their products, yet no Apple laptop mentions such a thing? If the Beats brand had so much value, you'd think Apple would embrace it everywhere it could.

And truthfully, Beats products aren't aligned with Apple's original product standards; match style/elegance with best in class technology. They're just expensive fashion statements that don't provide superior sound quality to the competition.

Post like yours always cracks me up. You are another arm chair CEO who apparently thinks they know what's best than the CEO of a billion dollar company even though you haven't created any business of your own that generates millions or billions.

So in your eyes, purchasing Beats was a failure and Apple should be marketing Beats like HP did. Funny, how did marketing Beats in laptops work out for HP? Last I heard, HP is getting out of the PC business. Obviously, that didn't work out to well. The Beats purchase actually made sense for Apple. They needed a music streaming service and strong connections to the music industry. Now they have it. The headphones are stylish with an obnoxious markup in price for great margins. Yep, sounds like Apple already.

You also mentioned that Apple should be bundling Beats with the iPhones for free. That would require raising the price on the iPhone purchase or losing money on Beats. Why in the world would they do that just because they acquired a company? That's just dumb.

There is a reason you are not the CEO of Apple. Stick to your day job please!

I put this to my girl and she stared that stare, I knew that meant I was older than her and knew nothing of the real world.

So if I buy a pair of these for her Christmas pressie am I just throwing money away on £30 of tech and £200 of Rose Gold Beats branding. Or is the ratio more in the tech's favour?

You could read the reviews, Beats latest stuff has much better reviews than their early one. As audio is entirely subjective past a point, only the ultimate end use can judge if its actually worth it for them.

The solo 2 is actually a good headphone, if your preference is bass.

Short summary, good headphone , overpriced, can get better sound for less . Though your daughter no doubt wants them cause they are "cool" , so buying a better sennheiser will not cut it. On the bright side they are no longer overpriced and total crap like the 1st gen, just overpriced.

I've never understood why some feel the Beats purchase was a bad move for Apple. Objectively, no other purchase made more sense. Out of companies like Sennheiser, Grado, B&O, and Bose, only Bose even sniffs at offering Apple what the Beats purchase did. Apple purchased a market leader in sales. Not only that, they got the market leader in profit. More importantly, they got the market leader in public mindshare. Beats tends to get maligned for being trendy and youth oriented. But why? The youth who grow up on Beats will be adults who are used to Beats. Some people seem to forget Apple is a business first.

Apple rarely uses best in class tech. They use good components coupled with good software to make a good product that gives them great margins.

This Rose Gold colour is actually not bad. My wife would be all over this stuff if we could afford it.

Personally I just wish they would put a Lightning charging port on them like the new Pill speakers has. My roommates and I have lightning cables all over the damn house at this point anyway. It would make it way easier to keep track of charging it (at least for me).

At this point, I'm holding off of buying any Beats products until they are updated to charge with a lightning cable.

They're considered one of, if not the, best on-ear can on the market from the more respected reviewers... Tyl has them on his wall of fame and says at the price point only 2 sets even compare, and they aren't overpriced - and his go-to recommendation at the price over the other 2 that provide the competition. They're a reference set of headphones.

As far as Bose... audiophiles hate them. They say Bose is an acronym for "Buy Other Sound Equipment" because of how poorly they perform versus the competition, like the standard beating they gave the original Solo headphones...

Apple did not invent the term "rose gold". It is a very standard and well-known (in jewellery) type of gold that contains a higher proportion of copper than yellow gold

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gold#Jewelry.

Thanks for the lesson! I think you missed my point entirely, I'm very aware that Apple did not invent the term rose gold and I am very aware what rose gold looks like. When looking at jewellery you can see the hints of gold colour but the rose gold Apple refers to just looks pink!

My goodness, you guys are about the most complaining, whinny, Bunch ever. I mean literally every single thread in this forum is full of nothing but gripes and fuss, post after post after post. It doesn't matter the item or topic. It's gotten to the point now to where there is absolute no value in reading anything past the OP.

To those who look down on these headphones, I have to say I was quite surprised with the sound quality of these despite being wireless.

And this is coming from a former beats skeptic who was gifted the terrible original beats solo way back. So I was biased before giving them a try. Of course I now own a few quality headphones (not the original solos!) and a decent amp/dac, and always am lurking on headfi forums.

Anyways, if you find the right deal on these they're every bit up there with the affordable audiophile headphones especially so if you're into hiphop EDM, etc. Plus the fashion/popularity factor is there if that's important to you.

Well, the rose-gold on the iPhone and the other products quite well matches my rose-gold Breitling Cosmonaute. It is pretty much spot on.

Am I the only one that sees vomit (and wants to vomit) when I see anything in this rose gold (pink) color trend?

If she likes pink, show her the headphones I have ;) (also available as wireless now). I tried Beats in the same price segment before and the sound of mine is 1000x better. Also those rose gold plastic things look really unstylish and ugly compared to that:

I don't like Beats either and I agree they are some cheapo plastic products but I would choose them in a heartbeat over these. I'm speaking about looks only.
