People haven't actually used Beats they are just pilling on because subconsciously its a way for them to hate minorities without being direct about it. If Dr. Dre had no involvement with these head phones people would be talking about how great they are because of all the bass.

The tech world has become more overt in it's racist undertones. That's largely because black people have not been involved in the tech revolution as much as other minorities have.

Take off the tin foil hat. Let me give you three alternative explanations: 1) people don't like Dre for reasons personal to him and unrelated to race (e.g. criminal past); 2) people don't like Beats for reasons unrelated to Dre OR his race (e.g. poor sound quality); 3) people have no problem with Dre or Beats per se but think $3b is too much to be paying for what Beats brings to the table.

To MR Editors: Esp. since Beats will remain as a separate entity how about creating a separate Beats Blog & not clutter up the main page with new Beats headphone products unless it's groundbreaking. It just seems more as PR/free promotion than actual news or even interesting rumor.

I find it interesting. So I prefer it to stay.

Plastic headband == no buy for me.

If they are going to charge hundreds of dollars then the headband needs to be metal with leather padding.

1.) Criminal Past - Soooo, Steve Jobs did NOT drop acid?
2.) Poor Sound Quality - They sound a hell of a lot better than anything Apple offers.
3.) NONE of the comments so far have been about the $3 billion dollar deal.

Try again?:rolleyes:

I didn't suggest it not be reported, I suggested it be reported in a separate blog like MRs iOS blog for those that do want to read Beat news & if there is actual Beat news put that on the front page. It's like how a newspaper has sections or TV news has segments.

Going to order a pair, so that I can finally use my Apple stickers on them...:cool:

I don't know what people's problem with Beats is, I own a pair of the Solo HD's and they are brilliant, very durable and the sound is great. Yea they are bass heavy but they also work great with other types of music, I listen to all different types of music and I love Beats.

Sound great and brilliant is subjective. That's the problem.

I'd rather have in-ear headphones. Over the ear ones are to big, to take to the gym. Beats knows how to market though. They have, so many people willing to pay $200+ for headphones

Cracks me up when I see people in the gym with large over the ear headphones. This did not happen before the Beats movement.

Many of these people also carry around gallon jugs of water....

Sennheiser = German
Bang & Olufsen = Danish
Bowers & Wilkins = English
Spotify = Swedish

Apple = American
Beats = American

Perhaps that played a role as well for Apple.

Unlikely. Apple has a ton of cash overseas that they can't bring back to the US without paying a big chunk in taxes. I'm sure they'd rather use their foreign cash if it made sense to do so.

Sad when Bose has better looking headphones and sound quality the only reason Apple wants Beats because it will get many mainstream customers and hipsters BLAH!

I think that Beats customers tend to buy headphones that match / work well with their preferred style of music.

Yep. If you never heard Beats and just read forum posts, you would think they sound like a $1 pair of swap meet headphones. For their intended purpose, they are not that bad. They simulate a dance club sound. Tons of bass, etc. Not even close to flat, but they don't want to be. In a colored way, they fit perfectly with rap, EDM, etc. 70% fashion accessory, 30% club on your head. If they were $99, I think the griping would drop considerably, but then they would be less desirable to many. Price points are very important in pop culture.

You didn't read the same WSJ article I read this morning about the purchase. It's not about the hardware -- that just a "bonus". Apple bought Beats for its founder's connections to the entertainment industry, and understanding of its inner-culture & how to get deals done. Apple needs such ambassadors for future deals as purchased music declines. Apple needs both music & video streaming deals & it's pinning its hopes Iovine can make it happen.

I'm Really Excited ....

I could have brought this steaming pile of horse manure to Apple for much less than 3 Billion. Things need a shake out......, start with Cue and maybe even Cook.

This could not have happened while Steve was alive.

That and the nice bass. I love bass in my headphones. I actually avoided beats because of the reviews. Now that I know they are heavy on the base, I will certainly pick up a pair. :eek:

I like bass. I hate trebbly sounding iPhone earbuds and other audio equipment. I want to hear the lows and the highs. The trebble tends to down out the base and I hate that!

Ok, with beats *all* you can hear is the bass, though. That's the issue. The rest of the headphones are drowned out by the overpowering bass
