I just got the beats X, and knowing that I didn't like in ear headphones I wanted to give them a shot anyways. My immediate impression is that the AirPods are way better and more convenient. The long wire is annoying and they don't feel comfortable at all.

I've had a similar impression of the BeatsX, although the controls are a definite win, I found myself going back to the AirPods again and again due to their true portability. BeatsX is a great alternative for those who experience issues with AirPods staying in.

I also find BeatsX too sibilant, often exaggerating the highs which they can't produce clearly causing fatigue to my ears. Its bass is present and the SQ is definitely wider than the AirPods which sound a bit dull and muddy without the help of an EQ but at least they're not overachieving. Can't expect audiophile grade sound from BT earphones from neither after all...

Returning my BeatsX. I'm positive AirPods v2 will offer sound isolation just looking at the recent patents Apple won and more controls of the music.

Same experience. Tried the AirPods on and ordered the Beats X. They arrived last night and I went for a walk. After my walk, boxed them back up and ordered my Airpods. Too bad I have to wait til mid-April, but yeah. I cannot deny how much better they are.

I also noticed that rustling sound with Beatx X. That microphone is no joke, but nope..not for me.

If you are following the instructions by compressing them and holding them in for a few seconds while they expand then its possible that they aren't the correct size. Initially I purchased the S/M/L Comply tips to determine which fit me better and for me the large are the perfect seal for isolation.

These:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002IEE9D0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I've already spend $15 on tips in addition to those that came with my $150 headphones. I don't think I want to spend another $20.

I have the AirPods and I like them but I travel a lot and they are a No-Go on planes. I found them awkward on the subway as well. But I really like them at my desk or at home. I had initially ordered the BeatsX on release getting a later delivery date. After seeing so many complain about the cord length, I canceled the order. I did still need more secure earphones for plane and subway. I tried the Anker pair and nope. I found the wires too short and call handling was terrible.

So I figured I might as well try these long-corded BeatsX earphones. I personally like the cord length. I find the power button a little weird. I do wish these would go into either power saving or off mode after 10 or 15 min. Or maybe when they are connected magnetically? Having controls on the left is a little bit of an adjustment but that's not a deal breaker. Sound is good, noise-iso is good. Fit is good but I might give the Comply tips a try, more in consideration of long flights than comfort related to every day wear.

Overall I like both for different reasons and I have decided to keep both pairs.

I agree with you on nearly all points. The thing that absolutely shocks me on this board, is that people whine about the cord length. They're designed to fit all neck sizes, not just small. Like you, the Anker was annoying to me because its cord is too short. The issue with these designs is if you have cord rub, which is exacerbated by a too short cord, it created annoying noise in the ears. If your cord is too short, it makes the product feel uncomfortable when wearing a collared shirt. If the cord is too short, and you wear a collared shirt, it tugs at the earbud and thus breaks the necessary ear seal creating the quality sound.

I think those whining about cord length have an absolutely silly complaint. My guess is they're used to wearing those gaudy headphones that go over the ear with the hard plastic band around the back of the head. Earbuds are designed to have the connecting cord drape loosely so as not to bother people with bigger heads and necks. Or those wearing collars. The "one size fits all" really does have to fit all, big necks and small.

Regarding airplane use, you hit it spot on, useless. I can't for the life of me figure out why people on here have blindly defended their "amazing audio quality" on airplanes. It made it obvious people are just defending their purchase for psych reasons, or the fan base has just become so detached from being consumers with a clue that they don't realize they're losing 90% of the fidelity of their music. Sad.

How are the airpods better for walking? You lose 90% of your audio vs losing next to nothing with Beats or other in-ear isolation buds. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my Airpods, but they're inferior in almost every way to my Beats X. The only area where the Airpods stand out is being able to quickly pop one in for a phone call in a quiet setting.

Well I do not own AirPods yet, so just have my in-store experience and a friend letting me borrow them for a run. We are always gonna argue against one's opinions, but since you seem to want to call my opinions out, let's go:

- AirPods are more close to the essence of wireless earphones than Beats X.
- AirPods have convenient charging. Meaning that if i don't charge my beats before I leave home, I'm screwed. AirPods case holds actual charges.
- to control the music on Beats X, they must have a microphone if they will prefer to use Beats X.
- Noticed on Beats X that songs with loud sounds and cymbals to affected hearing ability. Beats X is better at noise cancellation. However, if someone decided to run up and kidnap me, i would not hear a thing.
- AirPods really fit in the ears and produces excellent quality sound quality FOR ME
- Beats X uses dangling cables connecting to both left and right earpiece. I don't like Bluetooth headphones that have the collar bar. My PowerBeats 2 were annoying on runs for this factor alone
- Beats X has better music controlling right at your fingertips
- Beats X are sweat resistant, AirPods are not
- Beats X does have longer battery life
AirPods already uses cables in my possession. While Beats X requires me to grab it's cable.
- Walking with the Beats X, I heard rustling in-ear the entire experience.

no matter what in ear headphones you use, you will always have rustling. They are in ear headphones, that will never change unless they change the human ear.

Nope. Sorry. Not true at all. There's no rustling with apple wired headphones. None with the jabras I had neither.

The apple in ear head phones that are 79$? I hear rustling with those too just like the urbeats.

Nope. Just the ones that come with the phone.

I guess you just want to debate me that Beats X is better. Whatever man LOL. If you bought into those, enjoy the hell out of them. My opinions for why I chose Airpods are just as I stated, and are my reasons why I went with them. They are not up for debate.

Enjoy your rustling and I guess I'll enjoy my inadequate, to you, AirPods when I get them

Lol, I never once offered my opinion. I own both. Like both. Idc what you like or prefer or anyone else on this forum.

But you will hear rustling on IN EAR headphones. Period. Its a fact. Thats how the human ear works.

Google image search "in ear headphones" so you know what i am talking about bc you are a bit confused on what in ear headphones are.

Well I guess since you can't handle politeness and now I guess you want to call me stupid, let's go there. So I see your stupid and will call you an idiot. In-ear headphones are any audio inputs that go in your ear. This includes the apple headphones that come with you phone. I googled just as you said, and apple headphones are certainly pictured there.

I listed 2 headphones in my post and NEITHER set of IN-EAR HEADPHONES had rustling like the Beats X. So Seriously, you want to waste my time and debate on the rustling of other types of headphones?

So I guess the only confused one here is you.

Why are you so hostile? I never called you stupid. I never called you dumb. Will you please stop acting like a stuck up child? My lord dude.

Heres you go. A link that explains different types of headphones in PRECISE DETAIL. Apple earbuds are NOT In ear headphones.

Not the one acting like a child debating rustling in in-ear headphones.

You do realize that the Apple Headphones being compared in one article are not the in-ear headphones that I'm referring too. Review the picture posted within the article and then the EarPods with Lightning Connector

EarPods are not in ear headphones.

Look at the picture of in ear headphones. Those are in ear. Not EarPods.

Why would Apple sell EarPods and in ear headphones if the EarPods were already in ear headphones??

Sounds like the supposed adult in the conversation is having a tantrum.

And need to have the last word

Interesting.

There is in-ear and over ear headphones. Sorry..the ones that came with my phone are in-ear

It's hard to compare the Apple In-Ear and the Apple EarPods because one is an in-ear headphone and the other is an earbud type. In-Ear headphones fit in the ear canal with a soft moldable material, while earbuds are compact and rest just outside the ear canal.

Impedance: The Apple EarPods has a higher impedance than the Apple In-Ear, and needs more power to produce higher volumes. Very high impedance headphones may not be able to reach max volume with devices like MP3 players or smartphones.

Frequency Response: Both of these headphones have the same frequency response, which translates to them having the same range of low and high pitch outputs. It's important to note that, human ears can only hear around 20Hz - 20kHz, with the extreme pitches becoming less audible with age.

Operating Principle: The Apple In-Ear has a closed system which is usually better for bass quality, while the Apple EarPods is an open air system, and brings out the best of jazz and classical music.

[doublepost=1488781062][/doublepost]Honestly dude idk why you are getting so angry. I own both AirPods and beatsx. Both are cool. If you like or hate them it doesn't matter to me. It shouldn't matter to you either.

But you will have rustling with every in ear headphone. EarPods arent in ear. They arent. Ive provided a link and proof they arent. If you want to ask other people on here go ahead because you will not find one forum member or apple employee that will tell you apple EarPods are in ear headphones.

Anyways, enjoy your AirPods when you get them. Im curious now to what other forum members think about whether EarPods are in ear. ill post a thread.

Huh? AirPods battery life in every day use is a third of Beats X, and you have to stop listening to even use the charge case, so that one is out the window. Your logic about not charging Beats before leaving home is the same as not charging the AirPods case\combo. You're basically just removing the battery from the headphones and putting it into a portable charger. One can buy a power bank the size of a cigarette lighter and have 6x the capacity of re-charge as the AirPods in the same size.

I get it, the AirPods have their ups. I own both products so I'm not biased by the subliminal psychological need to justify my purchasing of one or the other. I own both (seems you own neither).

What baffles me is the defense from the buyers of AirPods (or in your case the non-buyer who seems to defend a product he doesn't own). The defense is always similar... can't recharge, cord connecting the two, inside ear, not as sleek, etc etc etc). These are HEADPHONES. They're not a fashion accessory, they're not a piece of jewelry, their PRIMARY function is audio quality. Never do people seem to argue the fact that audio quality is 100x better on the Beats X. I guess it's Apple's fault for dumbing people down to complete deafness the past 10 years putting those absolute garbage earbuds into the box, that nobody seems to notice that the audio on the AirPods is completely garbage. I suppose people just aren't intelligent enough to have realized Apple's terrible design is basically the same as the horrid $0.25 earbuds they hand out on an airplane when you forget your pair. You really should branch out and try some real headphones. Beats X certainly are no Sennheiser, Sure, Ultimate Ears, Bose, etc, but compared to Apple EarPods\Airpods, they're like Lobster compared to canned cocktail weiners.. at least in sound quality.

Sadly you're not going to ever get through to some of these people, it's really sad. Apple has mad a vast majority of their customers into complete audio-deaf idiots. Look at ll the people out there wearing Apple's garbage $0.25 EarPods. Why? Because they came in the box, so they must be good. Like when they used to sell discman and would throw in the cheapest headphones possible. It baffles me that people just blindly accept what's in the box as being decent, when in reality EarPods (AirPods) are about the lowest quality headphones on the market, even if you compare to the <$10 range. I guess Apple did a good job converting a large group of its user base to just accepting dumb, low fidelity sound. I've used Sennheiser earbuds (in-ear) since my first iPhone. Now I've got AirPods and Beats X. The Airpods are great for using to make\receive calls, garbage for music. Beats X when I want wireless, is great for music on planes or when sound is relevant (aka listening to music). I still prefer my wired Sennheisers over all else but hey, Apple doesn't let me charge and listen, and apparently cords are so 2015 (Don't tell Samsung!)

They all have their ups and downs. Neither one of them is perfect. But you all seem to be jumping on my opinion. Regardless of what I own or do not own, the simple matter of the fact is that I have tried them both for the same amount of time. You really want to point out that I own neither since it was mentioned twice. And yes I did own Beats X. I ordered them, opened the box and used them, and returned them to Apple. AirPods is what works for me.

And battery yes, they both need to be charged. I have iPhone cables everywhere I go. In any instance that I forget to charge and do not have the Beats X USB cable to charge, I am screwed. It even happens with my current Beats. I have to bring a cable with me to listen to my headphones if the battery has died.

Beats X audio was over done in my opinion. I'm a firm believer in Beats, trust me. I have the over the ear ones that are my staple for the gym and have been for years. I'm not justifying my purchase. It's what works for me.

What baffles me is the defense from the buyers of Beats X. We all like different things.

Also, since you own both...why? Have you given your opinion on why Beats X is superior over AirPods? It's been a minute since I read all the posts, but certainly am interested if it's not here. Also, why keep AirPods is Beats X works for you? Are there situations in which one is better over another, like running, on airplanes, etc?

So you want me to summarize because you don't want to read the posts I've written? LOL ok...

AirPods:

- Horrific poor sound quality akin to a $5 set of earbuds (sound quality 3 out of 10)
- Awful battery life on music, even worse when using as phone headset
- Useless on airplanes, utterly useless
+ Nice capsule recharge design
+ Nice and easy to pop one in to take a phone call
+ Fit is good for what they are, never fall out (even during jog)

Beats X:

- Case they come with is GARBAGE
- Volume could be louder
- Awkward to use for phone calls using both ears (can't hear one's self speak due to noise isolation)
+ Battery life is phenomenal (especially with quick charge function)
+ Bass\Highs are great, overall sound quality decent (sound quality 7 out of 10)
+ Noise isolation makes them GREAT for noisy environment\immersive sound

As you can see both have ups and downs. For me, I have both because neither is perfect. But 90% of the time I use my earbuds for listening to movies, music, etc... 10% for making and receiving calls. Therefor if I had to chose between the two, Beats X would win by a landslide. AirPods are basically only good if you're in a silent environment and want to also hear what's going on around you (weird, ehh?). AirPods are for those who don't care about music as much as the aesthetics\design of the product. It's precisely the reason someone would go out and buy a pair of Apple AirPods instead of a pair of Ultimate Ears headphones. People want cheesy white Apple looking products, and don't care about the actual audio quality that's coming out of the product.

If someone had to buy just one, I'd say the same thing, do you have earbuds for music\movies, or do you have earbuds for talking on the phone and value convenience in design over quality? Beats X vs Airpods.

Well you are not that important to me to research all 24 pages for your comment. ROFL.

I admit, valid arguments though and damn good list. It's obvious you feel very Beats strong and that's cool, your opinion and what works for you. Why waste money on AirPods if they are cheesy, and are equivalent to the corded ones received with the phone? Sell them to those who want them and don't care about audio quality, as you stated.

I was in a noisy environment when I used AirPods and the cancellation was perfect. None of my in ear Beats have satisfied me. I have my Powerbeats 2 but it's ridiculous to run in the over ear ones, but my number complaint is that it could be louder as they seem muffled or limited.

You're a terrible forum participant. You ask for my opinion then say my opinion is worthless. LOL, classy.

You were in a noisy environment and airpods noise cancellation was perfect? They are not noise cancelling, heck they're not even noise isolating. Based on previous comments you're fine with garbage audio, so go for it.

I can't comment about Powerbeats 2, never had them, never tried them, not interested in them. Not sure why you brought up a 2 generation old product as this subject was about Beats X and AirPods.

Again, go buy whatever u like, but don't ask for opinions here and disregard them. You clearly have determined AirPods are superior (without ever owning them), so far be it from me from being the guy to point out that you're exactly the reason Apple puts out crap headphones and the users don't seem to mind.

#1 - I did not say you're opinion was worthless. I stated you have some damn good points - or did you not see that.
#2 - I'm a terrible forum participant? I did not negate your opinion like you did mine off the bat and basically say I'm wrong for like Airpods more. Just because I disagree does not make one terrible.
#3 - I was in the Apple Store when I first tried on AirPods and I did not hear people talking around me. The 2nd time was at a bbq/party, and I still did not hear people talking around me.

And I love all your garbage talk when you own the same crap AirPods you're so disgusted by. I'm sorry you are defensive when I asked why do you own both.

I never discounted your opinion, I'm just quoting you... you said they are noise cancelling, they are not. Fact. They are not even noise isolating. Fact.

If you were in an Apple Store, put in the AirPods (gross by the way), and didn't hear the people talking around you, you need to see an audiologist. Apple makes no claims of any noise isolation, and even the die-hard fans that's their one issue is they completely pass the outside noise through. Some see it as a benefit for riding a bike, etc, but that's to each his own.

Why do I own both? Had you read my pros and cons, you'd see that the airpods make a fantastic bluetooth phone headset. I only use them for talking on the phone. Spending $150 and $160 for two sets of headphones so I can have the right headset for the right purpose is perfectly reasonable to me. I know, others have to justify their purchases to themselves which is why there are so many people here asking for reassurance about their headphone, laptop, iPhone purchases. It's a flaw in human nature, always looking to justify ones' decisions through the reassurance of others.
