Ok again: The part of the book where that story is being told was "leaked" by Amazon. Tim Cook brings the story up, he is quoted. That part of the book was already readable online.
Yes, he is quoted in relation to it. It says nothing about how the story originally surfaced (where does it talk about Tim bringing it all up?) or the context his quote came about.

If someone already found out through some means about something like this being a possibility and in an interview asked Tim about it, should he have lied then? Or if it was brought up in a completely different context?

What is it that you seem to think you know that the rest of us don't? Where is that information?

Or instead of making your own conclusions you can just take what it says at face value, Tim spoke of it as an example of Steve being selfless.

BS, -part- of a liver wouldn't have helped him in his condition. Plus, the only guy who could confirm that lame story is Jobs who is dead and never mentioned that when he was alive.

The only one who profits from that story is Tim Cook, who somehow is also the one who told it.

Looks like I'm not the only person that sees through it or at least calls it for what it is. If anything it's an attempt to hijack what should've been just about Steve and his work for self glorification by Cook. Nothing happened and probably couldn't happen and I suspect Cook knew that before making the offer.

I just don't trust Apple any more.

Now, of course, if Apple ever DOES introduce a TV, people can say "Steve never would have done this."

The only one who profits from that story is Tim Cook, who somehow is exactly the one who told the story.
And where does information confirming (or even mentioning) that comes from?

I guess if you suspect it it must make it true and completely reasonable for everyone else to buy into. We should all certainly base our opinions based on random suspicions of random people, as that is certainly more reasonable than, you know, actually believing something written by writers who do actual research and conduct interviews and put their reputations behind it all.

If we hear hoofbeats, it's best to listen to that one random person who suddenly without any other information suspects it's got to be a Centaur (than to go with the most likely expectation that it's a horse).

HahaHaha! Poor Samsung! Wild goose chase! Haha!!! Billions of dollars wild goose chasing the "OMG, we gotta beat Apple and be first " TV thing! Hey , but seriously, I heard they're coming out with smart underwear!?? Haha

I am assuming this is a joke, but for the life of me I can't get the humor of Samsung and TV. Help me here.

He wasn't "asked" about it, nobody knew about it and the guy who could confirm it is dead.
He didn't have to tell this story, nothing happened. He did a few tests and the procedure wouldn't have helped Jobs.

He told this story for the sole purpose of painting himself as a "great guy" and I find that to be really disgusting.

Doesn't matter who does it. It's a gross thing to do.

This is a classic example of painting yourself into a corner with no way out. Character assassination usually works better if there's at least a small bit of proof of what you say.

I read your quote and thought why would someone say this. This guy must really hate Cook. Then I giggled and thought Hanlon's Razor.;)

Well thats quite a contradiction when it comes to tv.

what i find perplexing is that a failed product released in the middle of the jobs exile would affect future releases.

i would assume jobs wife would know and deny if a very incorrect story broke.

This is such a terrible thing to read. I can't believe there are people who are so full of hate that they'd convince themselves there's no such thing as compassion in this world.

Who are you to tell what someone should say or not?

He told this story for the sole purpose of painting himself as a "great guy" and I find that to be really disgusting.

1) Pretending to be a mind-reader is also pretty gross.
2) Judging a person without even having met such person is also quite disgusting.
3) Forgetting that many times celebrities talk about their goodwill actions is a way to increase awareness is disgusting and gross at the same time. According to some of the replies, some people didn't know that a portion of a liver could be donated. Now, they do know. Should Bill Gates shut up about his billion dollar donations? Should have late Mother Teresa being quiet about her goodwill work? Goodwill should be advertised, and possible yelled from the roofs as it is a very rare merchandise nowadays. Goodwill inspires.

Geez.

You're not a "good guy" if you publisize a story like that YOURSELF to show the world what a "good guy" you are.

Self promotion at its worst.

I would agree if Cook mentioned that RIGHT AFTER it happened. But the fact that this comes out after 10 years(or whatever it is) isn't self promotion. Duh.

Regardless, if the motivation for donating your liver/kidney/whatever is "self promotion", i hope more people are self-promoters!

And where does information confirming (or even mentioning) that comes from?

I already said it's in the book.

Book Excerpt:
One afternoon, Cook left the house feeling so upset that he had his own blood tested. He found out that he, like Steve, had a rare blood type, and guessed that it might be the same. He started doing research, and learned that it is possible to transfer a portion of a living person’s liver to someone in need of a transplant. About 6,000 living-donor transplants are performed every year in the United States, and the rate of success for both donor and recipient is high. The liver is a regenerative organ. The portion transplanted into the recipient will grow to a functional size, and the portion of the liver that the donor gives up will also grow back.

What a hero, he researched all on his own, OMG he's so great. If that's not self promotion I don't know what is.

If you can read, it does not say that Cook leaked the information.

After reading more of this guy's(X-X) posts, it's clear that he's a troll or someone who really hates Apple/Cook. Reasoning with him doesn't work.

Fascinating

The "Inside This Book" feature is still active on Amazon UK. Some very interesting details and one I'm certainly going to preorder:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1444761986/

I did like the official biography, but this one seems to have a better spin on it, about how Jobs developed not just the tabloid story around him.

Your conclusion says more about you than it does about Tim Cook.

Yes it does.

I do good without telling everybody in great detail so they can admire me....for actually doing nothing.
