I heard kids in high school actually get bullied over having "green bubbles".

It's the stupidest thing ever, but I guess kids will always find things to be cruel over, no matter how trivial. iPhones aren't even an indicator of wealth anymore; anyone can get a used SE or other older iPhone for cheap.

It’s a popular story and it’s believable.

Hopefully this is one reason Apple is going to RCS.

It’s not the color of the bubbles. It’s the fact that cross platform group messaging just doesn’t work. Adding sms to an iMessage group messes it up and vice versa. Apple is the only one that can fix this. They don’t let anyone else use iMessage, so they have to support RCS or it’s obvious they’re intentionally holding everyone back to sell more iPhones.

Yes kids will always be cruel but at least if there are no more tangible problems with “green bubbles” maybe it won’t be so bad.

wtf does this mean? I hope this was copied and pasted from text provided. This is not a good explanation.

You won’t be laughing when your number gets sim swapped because you let a third party service intercept your messages.
That's what SIM lock / protection is for, it is included with my phone plan and the Pixel also has it baked into system settings.

I have an iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPad Pro 12.9" M1, MacBook Pro M1, 1 homepod, 4 homepod minis, and 3 AppleTV. But I also have a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 for no reason other than because I can.

I guess I'm a loser for wanting to be able to also get my messages on the one of my 11 devices that isn't made by Apple.
You can get them. You're just embarrassed by your green bubbles! Don't fear, it's 2023 and there is no shame in admitting your Androidgyny.

I'd actually pay for official iMessage on Android. It'd be very functional and useful. Tie it to iCloud backup.
Same.

It's hilarious to me the lengths Android (L)users will go to in a vain effort to look like Apple users! Y'all ain't foolin' no one, podner!
Virtually nobody is doing this to “look like” an Apple user. Get off your high horse.

I’ve used iPhone exclusively since 2007, and I would love to try out Android as my main phone. However, if I switched to Android wanted to continue to share pictures and videos as I do now, I would either need to send an external link to them (weird, inconvenient, requires upload to cloud), send via a different service (inconvenient for them and changes their habits), or send via SMS.

Also: If I got Android, all of my iPhone friends who I’m in group chats with would need to switch to a different messenger as well.

If I knew that my Messages were safely in iCloud and I could use iMessage with Android, I would at least give it a chance.

It’s not about different color bubbles or trying to look like an Apple user.

Do share with us how can I get the messages sent to my phone number on Android if my phone number is registered to iMessage. I'll wait.

I'm from the US. I have only seen WhatsApp used through specific businesses or people getting scammed.
Same. I see WhatsApp and immediately think im being scammed. There’s definitely no thought in my head that says “here’s a quality messaging alternative” lol

Couple teenagers in my house (US); they have iPhones but use Snap for everything.
I gave my daughter an iPhone, but she mainly uses Discord to chat with her friends.
Adults also bully their friends for being a green bubble, its not exclusive to kids.
Stating the obvious, but people like that ain't your friends.😕 If your so-called friends are like that...🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩 Cut those toxic folks from your life, even if they're blood relations. I hesitate to call them family, because I feel a closer tie to folk with no blood relation than a lot of my entitled, toxic cousins.

They're sad people whose self worth is tied to the products they use.😩

Apple is going to shut this down so fast. The way they are reverse engineering Apple's systems is not gonna fly for a second. I'm honestly surprised there hasn't already been an update to this post saying it's shut down. And he got $16 MILLION DOLLARS in funding? It doesn't take much to fleece VC dummies nowadays does it? Sometimes I wish my morals weren't so intact.

You heard that 3rd or 5th hand five years ago. Kids have the same frustrations with green/blue bubbles as adults, and that's all it was... maybe a little teasing and joking, but no real bullying to any real extent. It's just clickbait "journalism" getting people riled up about kids-these-days.

Apple's implementation will definitely be secured with end-to-end encryption. That's one of the reasons that they won't be using Google's RCS servers.

Guess again. Apple is using the Universal Profile standard which does not have encryption support. Google’s version does however Apple does not want to use that.

”In a conversation with Apple, TechRadar cites that the company "won't be supporting any proprietary extensions that seek to add encryption on top of RCS and hopes, instead, to work with the GSM Association to add encryption to the standard." That's great news, no matter what phone you own, as the standardization of ...Nov 16, 2023”

Nice. Really good news. I'm putting my primary SIM card into Pixel then, because this already works better than iOS implementation for my use case.

I have about 5 SIMs set up in my iPhone. Every time I swap them, iMessage deregisters. And the activation SMS that Apple sends to their servers isn't free, so I decided to simply ignore it and use iMessage and FaceTime with email only. Now I can finally tie all of my phone numbers to Apple ID using Android and they will stay there. Finallyyyy!

Lol. I probably will still be laughing.

I just tried and wow...it really works well and VERY simple to setup.

This is a game changer. Lol. My iPhone friends were like...welcome back. And I'm laughing because I'm sending it from my Android phone.
Apple phone users are some of the most cult like delusional ppl out there.

Not true in the least lol. It’s exaggerated and sad. Most kids use Snapchat to chat.
