The issue is for Apple users and Android users alike. If an iPhone user only knows an Android user's mobile number then their only option to communicate is via iMessage and the Google Messages app. Both are default apps. With the RCS protocol on both apps both can send high quality media to each other without downloading another app. WhatsApp, FB Messenger and other common apps still compress media. RCS would fix this for both users.
and that is why apple users have imessage, so the issue isn't an issue for Apple users.

LMAO i mean i am not the one upset enough to pay $2 a month just so i can say i can imessage :D Why? Because i brought a device that can actually do that. But i waste money on silly stuff as well so can't judge.

This app will be likely shutdown (like the snapchat clones for example) and you guys will be back to square one. What will really crack me up is if some kind of hack and data breach happens and people get screwed.

All to have blue bubble texts lmao. Sad but funny

Facetime already is possible for android albeit messy.
I know I said last night I'd stop replying, sorry.

You seem to be the one who is upset and defensive about people being able to take advantage of something great and practical. We who are using the app are excited. We are criticizing Apple the company and iOS the software, you are criticizing users and people. OK OK, I did criticize iOS users who bully or reject people for being green bubbles... Why would you take pleasure in people getting hacked?

People have said over and over again blue bubbles / text color is not at all the issue or reason behind the excitement. It's about quality of life features and ability to share higher quality content with each other. If you take pleasure out of people being deprived of this and view yourself as superior because you have an iPhone, wow...

I also use WhatsApp and WeChat. The great thing about RCS and Beeper is that they work with your phone number and are pretty much default / native options. You still need to register to use those other apps, it's not the same thing and not nearly as convenient. It totally depends on social and professional circle which apps work best.

In anticipation of a comeback that I have some sort of complex or am jealous of iMessage / am a desperate Android guy- 😂😂😂. I love tech and this app is the most exciting thing to happen to Android in quite some time.

This is a tech forum for people to discuss, we didn't create the thread on this, MR did, so blame them.

lol if this is the most exciting for android that’s sad.

I love tech as well. I also don’t go to android forums either lol

I swear between the side loading abilities and usb c and this mess with colors, yall
Really want apple
To make iOS like android. I’d probably
Go back to a flip phone lmao.

I’m not superior for using an iPhone. I just don’t complain about not having features and feeling entitled to them and blaming a company for not giving them to me.

I want live tiles like my old lumia. I should blame Microsoft for not making an app for
iOS lol

WhatsApp and these other apps don’t compress and I have sent and received plenty of videos just fine.

You do realize it is 2023 and not 2013? RCS in the Android world is every bit as good as iMessage in the Apple world.
I’ve used RCS and android and honestly it’s clunky lmao.

Now something trivial I’ll complain about is emojis on android phones are hideous. I thought windows were bad.

You sure it isn’t 2013?

It's more exciting than Dynamic Island (2022) and titanium blended frame (2023) for sure. What was 2021 iPhone 13 Pro innovation, 120hz that has existed in Android phones costing $200 for a decade?

I have an iPhone 15PM as well. Likely selling because I don't use it. This website has iOS and Android forums, this particular thread again was made by MR, not users.

Dynamic Island is far more interesting than android getting a feature they so desperately want lmao.

What makes this whole entire post funny is people criticize people for saying android is for the poor (that’s elitism) yet the fact you’re praising apps like this that essentially taking from a company is precisely why android has the reputation it does.

Android has always been seen as a cheap and pirated os. Because most people don’t buy apps. They simply pirate them lol.

The irony is literally not lost on me.

Based on your many many comments here I take it you're an older man so I'll let you be the expert on what is and is not 2013. When it comes to everything else I'm trying to understand why you're so invested in this topic. You seem so rabidly anti Google that you're blinded to the fact it would make everyone's group messages better. You do seem to be spending your whole evening here posting zingers so maybe that's not the point for you though.

I’m a woman and I’m 28 so not that of at all lmao

I am very much anti google as they are a terrible company. Meta is a close second. I can acknowledge when they have a good product. And this isn’t it.

Again my group chats haven’t suffered because I’ve been using various messaging apps that are cross platform for years.

They do compress photos and videos aren't at full quality. I've tested with my two devices (iOS and Android). However, the work around to avoid photo compression is sending them as documents.

I have not seen any major issues with telegram sending a video to my friend in Belgium of us doing Karaoke last night.

I unfortunately have a lot of creeps in my IG DMs and their videos appear very detailed (Unfortunately).

Quite astounding that many people here scoffing at the $2 a month when it was very clear in their announcement this isn't just for iMessage but for Beeper Mini to expand and include other Chat Networks including SMS/RCS from their former Beeper app (now Beeper Cloud).

The app would essentially improve users' experience as they can now have their chats in one Inbox without needing to hop around different apps as well as improve their experience when chatting with iPhone users who don't use any other messaging besides iMessage.

As for the green bubble - I never got the obsession but then again some of the apps I've used I can change that color. A lot of people making a fuss about Android and green bubbles don't even understand the significance between blue and green besides it being iPhone and Android.

Thankfully I don't have friends like that.

Looking forward to Beeper Mini bringing back other chat networks with their better designed app compared to Cloud.

Point being is...I too can do something random that most people can't and likely don't care.
Most android users dont go through the trouble of changing a color so you saying you could do that is highly irrelevant.

I agree that the majority do not however a lot do. My point points to the ability to change exists.

I am looking forward to Apple roadblocking it just to see the outcries lmao. About apple NOT bringing a feature it created for its products to Android as if they should be obligated lmao.
Maybe you should go back and look as to why Apple made the decision it did.

I don't expect Playstation to bring its platform exclusive experience to Xbox.

It really does lol.
As we have seen with the imessage knock offs, this has yet to work yet

That makes me wonder what version or implementation you have used.
I currently use it on several Android devices all on 13 or 14.

When it comes to emojis, both have “good“ and “not quite as good”. I do find them easier to use on the RCS side usually.

iOS. Android 14.

The fact you think it's good android OEMs can bomb on their first shot with ideas is a bit....weird. LMAO, that essentially proves that Apple is held to a higher standard where failure is not an option and it's okay if Android does fail because they fail often. You do realize Foldable phones/Dual Screen phones made their first debut back in 2010 with the Kyocera Echo lol. I literally was one of the only 10 people to own the first foldable android.

Also, most OEMs guarantee that on their Flagship devices. The bulk of Android devices sold are not actually Galaxy Folds or S23...they are lower end. Samsungs A line sells more combined together than the Galaxy S line. the iphone is still outselling Samsung Galaxy line.

OEMs are still releasing hardware with outdated Android versions (Android 12 is over 2 years old now...some even with 11) and you MAY get one major update and even then when you get that update you still likely will be outdated.

Google is offering 8 years of updates (Great for them. I hear their customer support is TERRIBLE for people who brought Foldable devices). Apple usually only guarantees about 5 years but it has also supported the iphone 6s for 7 major updates from 9 to 15 so it is not actually out of the realm that they could do it again.
The disadvantage of being the world's most valuable company is that they can no longer innovate or stray outside their safe zone. The Apple of the 1990s and the 2000s was taking risks innovating because it wasn't the corporate empire it is now. That is the price you pay for being this successful.

Android OEMs are not subject to that much investor scrutiny so they can take more risks. Samsung used to be significantly more innovative back in the day but they have now grown complacent like Apple as well. Fold 5 was essentially a replica of Fold 4.

I was doing a like for like comparison because Apple does not sell non flagship devices while Samsung does. The difference in software support between Android and iOS in those terms are meaningless. I had an 11 Pro Max, iPhone 7 Plus and a 14 Pro Max. The phones kept losing battery life and snappiness with more and more updates. My S23 Ultra lasts longer than my 14 Pro Max after the iOS 17 update

I am not sure why you are expecting Android OEMs to support their mid range and low end devices in the same standard as flagships. Its simply not possible to provide updates on $300-$400 phones because it ends up costing more to the company than they earn from the deal.

The difference between Android and iOS is that most of the system apps are updated through the Play Store on Android and security updates are delivered through Play Services API. In the tail end of software support on iOS, most system updates are really just app updates.

The iPhone SE is apples low end device. Similar to how the a series is Samsungs. The pixel base model is googles low end.

I expect if you’re releasing a phone that you at least do the bare minimum and release it with current software and you at least support it with 2 updates. You shouldn’t need to spend 1000 on android to get a unified experience.

You’re buying a phone with an outdated software that already is a security risk when you buy android.

I’m not sure why people expect every year the companies are supposed to radically reinvent the phone. This is not 2012 anymore.

Every generation of iPhone is not meant for everyone. I have an 11 and 15 pro max. I actually am perfectly content with my 11. I got the 15 for free. It’s my work phone actually. I use my 11 for my personal phone.

Nowadays people are keeping their phones for 2-3 years.

The 15s are for X-12 users.

Take another look. Between my Android devices and those in my household (6), all are rocking the Nov 2023 security updates but 1 and it has October. Not seeing where you are coming from with this comment.

Then again these are all mid-tier and above.

It's worth noting that Eric Migicovsky is the founder of the Pebble Watch, which was arguably the best smartwatch until Apple released the Apple Watch. It was also one of the most funded Kickstarters of all time, and he's a serial entrepreneur that does stuff with YCombinator.

I've been following Beeper for a while, and this is not their main business model. Their goal is to take all of the different chat platforms that people use (SMS, iMessage, FB Messenger, Telegram, Discord, Snap, etc), and merge them into one app.
I remember how this "universal instant message app" usually goes:

  • Trillian
  • IM+
  • eBuddy
  • Pidgin
One by one the underlying networks break the app one way or another.
