This is getting ridiculous. Just admit it didn't work and quit, why they have to keep embarrassing themselves?
They’ve already taken folks’ money and may have already spent it. This way, they can say, “We tried everything, but it doesn’t work anymore. Can we keep your money, though?” If they don’t give the money back, then they’re not much better than scammers taking advantage of folks that wanted to believe it SOOOOOOO bad!

What really should be punished are people who value the blue bubble over many other things in their life. Had those people educated themselves to be an adult, Beeper and similar would never find places to thrive, however long it might be.
In most of the world, the “green bubble” means a person just paid for that message to be sent. And, in many cases, forced someone else to pay for that message to be received, regardless of what device is being used. (It’s true in the US as well, an iPhone without access to data sends a green bubble message to other iPhones, but SMS has been broadly free for awhile, so no ding to the pocket).

That’s why, for most of the world, sending through the default app on ANY device is a non-starter. But, also, why, for most of the world, this isn’t an issue.

I wish Apple was this responsive to bug reports and security patches.
Especially for older products. Perfect example was battery life on my Apple Watch Series 5 when I updated to watchOS 10. Just really inexcusable.

How many people are actually going to go through all of this just to pay them more money for a blue bubble? Especially with RCS support around the corner?

Apple said they'd be supporting RCS "in the new year" and everyone assumes that it won't happen until iOS 18, but who says it won't happen on iOS 17?

I'm willing to bet they have what's necessary already queued up and in testing in restrictive alpha testing... the majority of it will be server-side anyway.
I was thinking this yesterday. I don’t doubt that there were a number of companies that were looking to monetize exploits and when the RCS news came out, it was either sit and wait until it doesn’t matter or jump and try to make as much money as possible.

Actually it has paid off because until this happened I had never heard of them.
That’s always the one sure-fire outcome of any attacks on Apple. :) I wouldn’t doubt that they’ve seen an uptick in users since all this occurred, just like… um… dang… that one email app that I can’t remember. Yeah, them.

I guess they run out of ideas.

Yep, the problem is caused by society, not Apple — the only entity which can fix it.

edit: it was sarcasm.

I hope this company goes down hard. They should be charged with digital trespass into a secure system.

It costs money big money to run any service what did they think was going to happen. Part of the purchase cost of your iPhone goes into running those services nothing in life is free.

Can you imagine how pissed they would be if another company was running messaging off their servers with no compensation.

When Mcsweaty at Epic started acting like a child demanding to have their store on apple I wrote him and asked him to let me set up my own store in Fortnite sell my own digital goods. I got zero replies because him and Beeper are parasites that want it all with none of the responsibility and costs associated with their demands services cost.

If Android users want to message iPhone users you should buy iPhones!, and iPhone user want to message Android users your should get better friends or buy them iPhones!. This is of course sarcasm.
Shame on Apple.
Brace yourself. People are about to come at you and say there’s nothing stopping you from messaging cross-platform.

I had used Beeper for a couple of months. Only positive thing was it did allow me to get all of my iMessages on my Pixel and the replies from it properly updated. The main functionality I want to see, and no I won't jailbreak an iPhone to do it, is to be able to register my Pixel phone number to Messages. There is really no reason for Apple make this available. They made music available on Android only because people were paying money for the service

Ask a carrier how they feel about YouTube and Netflix. They feel the same way. “Parasites using our network and profiting from us”.
Ask a developer how they feel about the 30% cut the Apple demands “just because”.
Apple could charge 3rd parties or the users for imesssage interoperability, but Apple does not care about a better connected world, just cares about killing the competition and being the sole phone provider of the world

Hmm...you were saying. Read below

Again read below

I do love when MR users make my points for me.

Apple beeper users: It's not about a color. It's about mah sEcUrItY.

Also apple beeper users: Green bubbles causes peer pressure and i feel judged.

Apple beeper users: Seriously, it's not about a color. it's about iNtErOpErAbIlIty

Also Apple beeper users: See below

No it shouldnt.
See below.

You care too much about this.

I'll be kind of sad if they give up because this cat and mouse game with Apple has been entertaining. I get it though. It's a lot of man hours and resources to keep up the fight. I'm an Android user and really have no use for Beeper but seeing these comments from iPhone users so upset about it's very existence is just as entertaining!

This all has been very entertaining, but part of me admires the developers behind Beeper for their persistence and ingenuity. Something that may seem completely flawed and pointless to one person may not seem that way to you. One of my early coding projects when I was still a teen was deconstructing an API.
Certain types of people act like they've been personally attacked. It's really kind of weird.

There are countries where text messages are still charged?

That would be surprising, given that the US is known for crappy cell phone companies and it's been free here for well over a decade now.

As we shared this morning, the team behind the Beeper Mini iMessage for Android app has announced a plan that will let Android customers use a jailbroken iPhone to register a phone number with iMessage in order to get the Beeper Mini service working.

Beeper-Mini-Broken-By-Apple-Feature.jpg

Just days after Beeper Mini launched on December 5, Apple objected to the way it was using iMessage servers with "fake credentials," and blocked the mechanism the app was using. Since then, Beeper Mini has tried to get the app back online using several increasingly complicated methods, but Apple has continually shut it down.

Beeper Mini's latest effort requires either a Mac or an old iPhone that is able to be jailbroken, and Android users who do not have access to one of these will not be able to use Beeper Mini or the Beeper Cloud service reliably. Using a Mac is straightforward, as Beeper Mini users simply need to sign in to get an iMessage registration code that allows the service to work.

The Beeper Mini team says that 10 to 20 people can "safely" use the same registration data, but the Mac method limits Beeper Mini users to email-based iMessage communications, and it requires an Apple ID.

The second more complicated Beeper Mini workaround uses an iPhone. Beeper Mini's developers suggest that customers get an old iPhone 6, 6s, original SE, 7, 8, or X and jailbreak it with a Mac or Linux computer to install a Beeper tool that generates an iMessage registration code. The registration code can be added to the Beeper Mini app, and it allows an Android phone number to be registered with iMessage.

This method restores full Beeper Mini functionality so that Android users will show up as "blue bubbles" when communicating with iPhone users. The jailbroken iPhone must stay plugged in, at home, and connected to Wi-Fi in order for Beeper Mini to continue to function.

Those who do not have an old iPhone can "rent" an iPhone from the Beeper Mini team for a few dollars per month, or buy an old iPhone that's preloaded with the Beeper Mini app. The jailbroken iPhone rental and purchase service will "be available in the new year" if potential customers express enough interest.

Beeper Mini requires registration data from an Apple device, and to get the app to work, the Beeper Mini team was initially using registration data from its own Mac servers. Apple was able to target Beeper Mini because thousand of users had the same registration data, but it will in theory be more difficult for Apple to determine who is a genuine iMessage user and who is a Beeper Mini user with the unique registration codes provided via a Mac or a jailbroken iPhone.

In a second blog post, the Beeper Mini team says that this is its last attempt to get Beeper Mini up and running. If Apple finds a way to disable Beeper Mini again, that will be the end of the app. The team says, however, that it has "created something that Apple can tolerate existing" with the jailbroken iPhone endeavor. It seems unlikely that Apple will allow Beeper Mini to sell or rent jailbroken iPhones, so it will be interesting to see if and how Apple responds.

Beeper Mini is also open sourcing the iMessage connection software that powers Beeper Mini so others can continue development if desired.
