Genuine suggestion.

Perhaps there are minor issues with the A5 chip and heat in such a small enclosure, or the A5 is eating too much battery. The iPad battery is far larger than the iPhone and thus can hold more charge and handle a faster, more powerful CPU.

We're all guessing at this point, but sensible debate can raise some interesting points.

I don't think there's necessarily a problem, I think waiting until a fall release date makes sense, it gives apple the chance to have a brand new product on the shelves foe the holiday season, and probably seeing the intense competition from other phone manufacturers, the extra 3 months give apple the chance to have that edge over the competition!

There can't be anything wrong with the iPhone 5, because if there was apple would have switched to another prototype they already have to solve the problem.

I believe that there is nothing wrong with the next iPhone. They are just waiting for "Fall" to come around so that they can release it alongside the Golden Master version of iOS 5.

Brand new to the forum so you may have no reason to believe me but i felt like i wanted to post this info somewhere and figured this thread would be a good location.

My cousin's husband just told me 2 days ago (who works at AT&T) that the iPhone 5 is infact coming out in October and it will be $200. That is a for sure detail fact. AT&T still doesn't know what they are going to call the iPhone yet, and there were a ton of things that he couldn't tell me because of his job.

But FOR SURE we will have the new iPhone in our hands by the end of October and it'll be $200 at AT&T.

They don't know when Apple is announcing it, or the exact release date. But they will have it out by the end of October.

I hate to say it, but I am starting to doubt an iPhone announcement in September. I think there is much more to this delay then we think. And I think the delay is going to continue right through September with not so much as even an event date. I have no facts or sources, but my gut is telling me something is wrong. Maybe it's because it's the first day back to work after a holiday, or the fact the weather on the East Coast is miserable, or maybe a little of both. But my excitement is starting to turn toward frustration and doubt. The rumors, which I usually enjoy reading (no matter how rediculous) are becoming boring and frustrating. Something just isn't right. I'm starting to think there are problems...Problems that (in a worse case scenario) could make it a very Android Christmas.

I know it would KILL Apple to not relase an iPhone this year. But what do you think the possibilites are that this "doomsday scenario" could really happen? And does anyone agree that these delays could be far worse then what we imagined? I'm beginning to think Apple may be just as frustrated as we are.

One bright spot is that I think if iPhone 5 was plagued with major problems that was going to delay the release through the years end, we would have already seen, or at least heard about, a refreshed iPhone 4...Which they would almost certainly do if there was no chance for an iPhone 5 in 2011.

What do you all think?

This isn't another company, this is Apple. Just because nothing has been said about it when we're only a week into September, that means nothing. What about everything pointed towards a late-September launch? It's coming.

Fall doesn't start until September 23. What the heck is everyone's problem?

this isn't going to turn into a PB G5 type thread is it -- hmmm PowerBook G5, iPhone 5... maybe Apple needs to skip 5

I suspect that it is all about Steve

Either

1) He is about to die and Apple don't want to release a product that is going to bring so much happyness and joy to people at what will be a sad time

2) Steve will do the keynote and they are waiting for a break in Steve's health in order for him to be well enough to do a keynote

3) He is about to die and Apple want to release the iPhone 5 around the time he dies as a tribute to him and to raise morale

I think they are waiting either for Steve to die or to improve before iPhone 5 is released

I think your post is crazy but your imagination is good.

Lol..Yes, I'll be the first to admit that I am totally consumed with this next iPhone, and it's release date. I really don't know why, but I am...And I am sure this is exactly what Apple wants. It's almost like they have some sort of weird mind control over people...Well at least me anyway.

wow, are you even serious ? Bottom line Apple is a business, and want to make money. It is too bad about Mr. Jobs health, but they will not hold off a major product release to work with his health issues.

Don't be so sure, Steve doing the iPad 2 keynote after all his health issues made front page news on most papers around the world and headline news on news bulletins, instead of "Apple launch new gadget" on page 14 it was "Jobs rises from sick bed to launch iPad 2" on page 1 of papers so Apple waiting for a break in Steve's health would be a marketing boost to beat all marketing boosts, Steve doing the keynote would be lead headline in many papers and news bulletins

I think that Apple are waiting for Steve to have a break in his health before launching iPhone 5 as they want Steve to be world news with it by doing the keynote

Either that or he is about to die and they will release the iPhone 5 around the time he dies so that the massive success of it kinda helps keep the stock from falling much

My three reasons

- A5 overheating in such a slim design.

- Expand the market. Apple hasn't completely saturated the market yet. So they need to ramp up with production. They are going for a big, big launch on all four major U.S. carriers. But this takes time. Add the fact they may want to launch internationally much closer to the domestic release date. iPhone 4 was just released in India THIS year. The more waiting, the more anticipation for it.

- Coincide the announcement with the iPod refreshes.

I really don't think it has much to do with Steve Jobs health, but who knows? I am not the biggest Jobs fan and probably wouldn't like working for him. We only see him from a consumer-side and not always being around him, ya know? But it does sadden me about his failing health. Pancreatic cancer is terminal. I can still appreciate the many great things he did for Apple and their dramatic turnaround these last 14 years.

Whatever the case may be, I expect record-breaking sales for the iPhone for the next few years. MacRumors doesn't speak for a large demographic, only diehards of Apple products or ones looking to solve a problem. If you look at iPods, it increased to over 50M by 2007 by the time it had four lines of iPods. That was six years after the first iPod was announced. And it kept increasing. From 2012-2014, I see record-breaking sales for iPhone. It will have multiple iPhones for every price as well as being found in all four U.S. carriers. By then, it will start to run its course and then a slow decline just like anything that gets "old."

By then, who knows? I look at apps being downloaded similar to when we used to download music for FREE back in those Napster days. Now, not many people download music like they used to. The most common downloads at Pirate Bay is porn followed by movies. People have most of their favorites when it comes to songs whether they paid for it via iTunes or downloaded illegally. Music became cheap and disposable. Right now, downloading apps is all the rage just like downloading music was a decade ago.
