I miss days when you bought device and it was working the same way till it died… really, why there is updateable FW in charger for no other reason than a kill switch?

I agree! Why does a charger require software updates of any kind? It has one function, to charge a device. Give it a few years and we will require firmware updates on our light switches. 👀

I had light switches at my previous house that was connected to Cat6 cables. So yeah they can.

That video you shared previously shows how much is inside the 3 in 1 Charger. I think if Belkin can make this without all those chips, they'd do it. Stuff like this from Belkin.

It’s not just abelkin but other brands as well. It’s an iOS issue with a recent beta Update. Not sure if the issue presents itself in non beta iOS versions.

I have two. One is fine with zero issues, but the other one stopped working in July -- exactly the issue being reported here. Belkin sent me a warranty replacement (but I had to pay for return shipping). Well, that unit worked for 17 days before it stopped charging the iPhone. I reported the issue to Belkin yesterday via their RMA website and today I was notified they would be shipping out another replacement. At least they are being responsive!

My 3-in-1's model # is WIZ016, Firmware 274.0.0.0, Hardware Rev MPFW. 30 months old now, well outside the 2-year warranty. Belkin is replacing it and told me to toss this one in the trash once I receive the new one.
Ok, my replacement arrived. It's also a WIZ016. Hardware Rev MPFW.

But it's firmware 267.0.0.0. I'll leave the phone on it a bit and see if the FW updates to 274.0.0.0.

Careful, it might be the firmware that is the issue.
People who are having or had said issue, should post their model number and firmware version to see if it's related to those specific models/firmware.

Not much I can do - the updates are automatic and it doesn't prompt you for it either.

One other thing that may be causing the issue - the AC adaptor may be crapping out. Such an odd thing happening to everyone more or less over the past two months. But the cool thing is I have a unit that appears good and one that's not - even though the bad one has been working ever since I complained to Belkin about it and did the unplug/plug in trick to get it working.

I have this one since launch and put my phone last night to charge as every night, to my surprise, the phone did not charge at all, so I will monitor this situation to see if it’s also faulty

Can anybody confirm their unit‘s firmware has updated? Not referring to replacement from Belkin…

Nothing to do with the beta. My work iPhone wasn’t charging and no beta was ever installed on it.
Odd thing is mine started this right after a beta update so I’m assuming it had something to do with it. Could be it also made it in a regular update as well. Also, mine is not a Belkin and is presenting this issue.

OK, they definitely can push out firmware updates for the Belkins. My replacement unit just finished updating this morning, here's the old and new version:

Curious as my old Belkin's version is 274.0.0.0 - I'm going to see if that updates now. If so, that means a new firmware was pushed out recently.

Apologies, who do you even access that?!)))

Instructions are back on page 5, I think.

Put your phone on the MagSafe charger, wait about 2-3 minutes, then do Settings->General->About and it shows up about 2/3 of the way down the page.
I guess I don't read those too much, have to find them)) Does the firmware update automatically, or do we need to push it through?

FWIW chatted them up. They didn't want to send a replacement, the gist I got is they are still investigating (and based on this thread a replacement doesn't necessarily fix it)

While I agree that a firmware or iOS update is the likely culprit, it could also be components crapping out in the charger or the AC adaptor too. The timing of these reports makes that less likely, but I do recall the bad capacitor issue in the early 2000's where devices would last about a year or so before the caps pop or leak.

And the really cynical would think that someone put in a drop-dead-date but forgot to add the random number generator to spread out the failures to make them less obvious. :)

I think they are going to do the same thing with me. I got a phone call today while at working, asking what firmware I was on. I’m going to return it to Costco and stay away from Belkin. I’m going to stick with Apple from here on out.

It's frustrating for me too.

I have the flat one, which was the nicest charger I could find that would allow me to use a watch with the Milanese loop.
It's really nicely built and overall I like it quite a bit.

I do dislike Belkin for what they did when they first came out as a "premium cable" company. Back in the day, you could walk into CompUSA (remember them?) and pick up computer cables for your printer or modem for $1.99-$2.99.

Then came Belkin: $24 for the same cables (just a bit prettier - Oh! a gold-plated centronics connector?) and all the cheap ones disappeared because they were designed specifically to be high profit items.

So to me, they are an overpriced accessory manufacturer, the cost of this item pretty much confirms that is what they still are. But again, they sent me a free replacement with no hassles.
