Belkin Launches Kit for Cleaning Earwax Off of AirPods

Belkin this week announced the launch of a new AirPods Cleaning Kit, which is designed to remove earwax and dirt build-up from the earbuds to restore acoustic performance.

The kit is designed for the AirPods 1, 2, and 3 models, as these earbuds do not have silicone tips that protect them from exposure to earwax when in the ears.

Belkin's kit includes a cleaning brush, an earwax softening solution, cleaning gel, and a microfiber cloth. It seems to be designed to be a one-time use kit as the cleaning components are provided in small quantities, and the cleaning gel in particular says that it must be used within two hours of opening.

According to Belkin, wax and dirt build-up can impact sound quality, and the kit is able to remove up to 99 percent of materials that are clogging up the AirPods. The cleaning components are designed to be mess-free, and Belkin says that they will not damage the AirPods.

The AirPods Cleaning Kit is available from the Belkin website for $14.99.

I brought a new pair of airpods to the Apple store and showed them how much ear wax was in them right out of the box, and they hit me with the "within acceptable tolerance" mantra and threw me out.

So this Belkin product will come in handy.

I'm OCD about cleaning my AirPods. Every couple of days I'll clean them with a damp towel after I get out of the shower. If you maintain them you won't have to go through the trouble of deep cleaning.

It's gross, but it's necessary. One day, you'll notice the volume on one is a lot quieter. Earwax is the culprit.

You can use this for the iPhone speaker too. The earpiece speaker grille can get disgusting to the point of blocking the audio.

Apple Store cleaned it for me though in the used phone I bought that it was so bad I thought the speaker was broken

What kind of sweat do you have?

Didn't know there were different kinds of sweat. But it mostly builds up when you do cardio. Riding a bike, getting on a Stairmaster and such.

My left AirPod doesn't get as loud as my right one. I was told it could be due to ear wax but it seems clean to me. Maybe this kit will find an issue I can't see. Or it is just something else.

There’s cheaper alternatives that are just as good (or better) on Amazon. I’ve had one for several months and it really works. Those things are dirtier than you think.

And the heart rate sensor stops working as well too

Cotton swabs and water work just fine. Rubbing alcohol can be used for more extreme cases.
