You’re kidding right? You have to be kidding. I gagged reading that last part.
Go to BestBuy's site and search for AirPods. You will see refurbished in there. Here is a screenshot:

The wax that gets stuck to the ear pods is just some of the wax in your ear canal. The rest of it is getting jammed deeper and deeper into the ear canal every time you stick those blasted pods in your ears - to build up next to the eardrum.
Maybe youngsters can naturally clear the impacted wax by natural ear canal wax migration, but older folks are likely to run into problems with earwax impaction blocking their hearing a decade or so after using these frequently

Belkin this week announced the launch of a new AirPods Cleaning Kit, which is designed to remove earwax and dirt build-up from the earbuds to restore acoustic performance.

The kit is designed for the AirPods 1, 2, and 3 models, as these earbuds do not have silicone tips that protect them from exposure to earwax when in the ears.

Belkin's kit includes a cleaning brush, an earwax softening solution, cleaning gel, and a microfiber cloth. It seems to be designed to be a one-time use kit as the cleaning components are provided in small quantities, and the cleaning gel in particular says that it must be used within two hours of opening.

According to Belkin, wax and dirt build-up can impact sound quality, and the kit is able to remove up to 99 percent of materials that are clogging up the AirPods. The cleaning components are designed to be mess-free, and Belkin says that they will not damage the AirPods.

The AirPods Cleaning Kit is available from the Belkin website for $14.99.

$15 will get you a lifetime supply of Q tips at Costco, and they are the perfect size for getting the wax out!

We need one for Apple Watches too. When you work out and your arm starts sweating the build-up sweat gets stuck under the Apple Watch. Thus giving a dirt smudges effect :(
I just de-attach the leather band and wash carefully my watch with a drop or two an antibacterial soap. Then I use a kitchen towel and let it to dry somewhere on my desk.

The apple version would clean “twice as well”, cost $65 and you’d have to buy the apple cloth separately.

I have cleaned many airpods and Apple wired headphones going back 15 years, and I can say with certainty that this is an unnecessary product. A bit of paper towel and a sewing pin will get the grunge out in under five minutes.

What a joke of a product. This doesn't really do much more than if you were to apply a bit of isopropyl alcohol to a paper towel or microfiber cloth and wipe down the AirPods since you cannot access and clean the inside of them in the area beyond the mesh screen. Getting the earwax softener solution inside the area past the mesh screen doesn't do anything if you cannot get any earwax out from that area.

If the mesh is clogged, then use a soft toothbrush to loosen any earwax.

And if you're cleaning your AirPods on a regular weekly/bi-weekly/monthly basis as well as your ears, then you won't have any earwax build up to worry about.

You have to be very careful using water or any liquid on them
Yeah, maybe ideally always use the rubbing alcohol (90%+ only) since it's non-corrosive.
Oh yes, absolutely. I was thinking about my pros when I posted, I only use water on earphones’ rubber tips. For the actual electronics (aka the entire thing with standard AirPods) alcohol is best. Because alcohol evaporates quickly, it’s good when you don’t want residual liquid left somewhere.
