Unless you own a fairly recent Apple computer, you’ll have to purchase a device to charge these new phones.
Not really, or at least not really a concern in practice. Any Lightning cables you already have laying around will continue to work fine with whatever devices you already have. A USB-C to Lightning cable is included in the box because it's more useful in practice: people generally don't have them yet, despite the newer computers and chargers all going to USB-C.

Ugh, why can't they just make the charger circles black on black models? That stand looks like some demented Mickey Mouse bust when there are no devices being charged, i.e. the lion's share of its existence.

Belkin should have wireless charging with the car mount because if Pitaka can they can. I am hoping my Pitaka wireless charger car mount with magnets will work without a chase on the iPhone now.

I have tried everything under the sun. The only shortcoming with the cable on the nightstand is fumbling for it in the dark. My wish list for an all-in one nightstand charger are:
  1. Phone in upright position so you can see who is calling without picking up.
  2. Watch in nightstand mode (and it would be nice for Apple to provide the option for low power mode on the watch so the time is always visible, just dimmed).
  3. Airpods wireless charging.
  4. Small footprint.
  5. One USB-C cable.

What happens when you put one of these chargers on a previous iPhone. I know it won’t “stick” but will there be enough light magnetic guidance to line up the charging coils?

I bought the Belkin stand for the watch a few years back when I found it on a great sale at Target. $150 for just a charging stand (even if it does 3 devices) is way more than I want to pay. Guess I will have to cross my fingers to find it on sale at Target in a year or two.

Why is a "MagSafe" car vent that doesn't even charge have the MagSafe name? It's a magnetic mount. Period. Those have existed for years. What a joke.

I currently use a magnetic vent mount that I paid 10 bucks for on Amazon. Works great. But, with no wireless CarPlay, I still have to plug in, so even if the Belkin device managed to charge your iPhone somehow, it'd still have to be plugged in to use CarPlay.

If the car mount had charging capabilities I'd look at it. I'll wait for another vendor to make one that does charge.
Do you use CarPlay? If so, then you'd still have to plug in, so what's the point of a car mount with charging capabilities?

AFAIK charging coils are made of copper.

$150.00? Lmao....Give it 6 months and knock offs with be available on Amazon for 50 bucks.

Not really. The Mophie unit that does all three (not MagSafe on iPhone) is $139 US.
Still doesn't mean it's a cheap option. $150 is not for the budget conscious person and is not something many have to spare on a "stand". I mean sure it looks nice, but the more I look at it, the less it appeals to me.

Sure, sounds funny saying it after a person purchased a $700 phone, $600 watch and/or $200 airpods...

I took one look at that charging stand and I swear people are going to knock the phone off it. Having the phone suspended in the air and not resting on a base is just one more opportunity to damage the phone. Looks cool, not for me.

I wonder if the iPhone 12’s will work with MagBak strips?

They do say that "magnets positioned to support wireless charging." I've found that the Magbak case + strip is the cleanest car mounting solution I've found (I don't like extra mounts in my car). I'll probably buy another one if I end up getting an iPhone 12.
