I'm sure cheaper ones will pop up from other manufacturers on Amazon, but if you add up all the separate components from Apple's website the Belkin solution is cheaper, only takes up one wall outlet, and looks a hell of a lot better.

You can also charge a non-MagSafe phone on the base, as some people have pointed out before.

The advantage to MagSafe charging is that the phone is precisely placed on the coils and can therefore operate at a faster speed with lower wasted power and thermals. The Android crew is going to whine about having fast Qi charging forever, but the chargers rarely output the full power unless perfectly aligned, which Apple is attempting to fix here.

If they can only figure out how to transfer DATA as well through MagSafe... We won't need a port anymore and it'll be glorious.

Magsafe Charger ($39)
AppleWatch Charger ($29)
Wireless charging pad (>$30)
3x 20W Power Adaptors ($19x3)
Total: $155
Those are OEM prices. I expect 3rd party solutions to be a lot less considering the low end materials being used. Also, related to what you said, the single power brick this uses won't ever get close to 60W.

I don't hate this design idea, but I find the implementation poor. I am really hoping to see the import knockoffs improving this design by using Apple brand magsafe and apple watch chargers along with an economically priced qi base. I could see BYOC solutions going for $25 to $50.

the "what" was rhetorical. i'm sorry that i've had to spell that out for you.

you don't want the mag...in MAGsafe...that's as dumb as saying i don't want the electric in the electric vehicle i bought.
I don't want the mag in MagSafe, that is precisely what I am saying. I didn't name it, genius. You know who uses rhetorical questions don't you? Yes, yes you do. It is fitting.

That's not the point. I have same opinion as @Mac Prodigy.

I pick up and put down my phone into a simple Qi wireless charger a million times each day.
(hmm... what's the actual average # that studies report? maybe dozens or hundreds?)

I don't have to pull it off a strong magnet.

In my car I'd appreciate that. In my office, my house, No. Completely unnecessary.

Then you should get a Qi charger, not MagSafe. A MagSafe without magnet is just a Qi charger.

Is this an Apple Store Exclusives or something? I had the link for Bestbuy and they had $15 off, but now the link gives you an error and I can't find it on Bestbuy.com

I'm waiting for the floor model - - I want it for the centerpiece of my charging room.

Looks elegant but price tag is a bit tough to swallow..instead will buy from made in China $30 version.

It doesn't feel wireless at that point. Might as well just plug it in. I do like the speed at which the MagSafe charges. That part is solid.
Yeah I really don’t see it that way. It’s no different than a wireless charger IMO. You set it down somewhere and remove it all the same.

It looks like it will be a great product, I ordered mine in white. I have a very thing clear non Apple case on it, so we will see if the magsafe works through the case.
I typically choose the thinnest case possible. Like the Tozo ultra thin. This time I went just a hair thicker for a little added protection. MagSafe works without issue. I'm thinking you will be fine as Belkin has always been solid in my experience anyway.

And again, that's as stupid as buying an electric car and complaining it's electric. So...thanks for confirming?

I just said I made rhetorical question. And you're telling me that I do use rhetorical questions. Thanks for confirming what I just said (again)?

While I like to continue this hilarious conversation, I think it's only "fitting" I stop here with you as this this is going no where. Have a nice day. :)

We can agree to disagree. To each their own. Maybe one day they will release a "Safe" charger, that doesn't have the magnet. Then we will both have something we like.

It was all lost on you. No matter. You have a nice day as well :)

Today was the last day to file a return on my Duo thanks to the extended holiday return. I’m shocked Apple did not wait a few more days to release this. So i bought this and initiated the return. I’ll hold on to the duo until next week when this arrives then send the duo back. This makes much more sense for my needs.

I got the duo for travel :)

Then you don't buy a MagSafe. People buy MagSafe for the MAGNET so they don't run into charging issues overnight.

Regardless, whenever I pick up my phone, my middle finger shoves off the MagSafe. Non-issue.
