Just because something is old does not mean it is outdated; it would be if there was something fundamentally wrong with it but there isn't. It doesn't deliver crackly sound, it doesn't have wow and flutter. Floppies and CDs got tossed because they were slow and limited. The audio jack has hung around so long because of its beautiful simplicity, it works well and it doesn't need batteries. I think you're right, we will adapt, but it is unnecessary.
I couldn't agree more. Consumers need to stop accepting Apple's game and I think this may be the final straw.I've got bluetooth, usb and auxiliary... I use auxiliary and USB, but I hate using bluetooth; drains battery life, cant stand having to remember to turn on bluetooth on the phone, sound quality sucks, the microphone picks up all the loud noise within the car, etc.
I just use in-ear phones with a mic and plug in only one earpiece to chat. Takes a few seconds only and I dont have to constantly have bluetooth turned on.
But christ, Apple really dropped the ball on this one. Everyone I've talked to at work said they're not getting the next iPhone because of the headphone jack. I hope Apple's sales tank HARD with the iPhone 7; they need a wakeup call and start listening to their consumers demands.
Use a BT headset. You can find noise cancelling ones very cheap nowadays. And you will have better range of motion to look around. The wires limit how far you can turn your head.
When/if Apple comes out with one, it will be $79.99. Plus you have an adapter with an adapter... Lightning to this thing, to 3.5mm audio...
It's elitist to tell someone to get a Bluetooth receiver from Amazon for $15? Anyone can have Bluetooth. Get a Bluetooth receiver, plug it into your AUX port, and boom. Now you have Bluetooth in your 2010 car.
well dont like to be too right but I did put my life on the line 3 months ago-

Except the block is the same width on both ends, as are the connectors. The Centronics connector was somewhat larger.I was thinking 25-pin serial to 36-pin Centronics parallel coming out of the computer.
Catch-22. Apple has made a significant commitment to the Lightning connector, which came first, and USB-C probably wouldn't have the form it does now if Lightning hadn't existed.Amen to them for making this - but cheez and rice, Apple is going down the wrong path. USB-C would have been the right way to go.
Great, buy an adapter so we can use an adapter with the adapter(3.5mm to lighting for us with "regular" headphones)
People need to calm down about the audio jack removal. I mean, who is really crazy... the one who removed an ancient connector from their modern pocket computer, or the one who bought analog headphones for $350 now screaming and shoking... jeez.
NO this available soon-

Sorry, but you'll need something else to get the mob to storm Cupertino. Remember, the majority of users only use the Earbuds in the box. They'll notice nothing but better sound and features. The next group never uses headphones and the will love the great new streaming and New stereo speakers with twice the volume . The next group that has an other set of headphones will just attach the adapter Apple gave them and never think about it again other than being grateful to Apple for giving it to them for free. A very tiny number won't fit into the above categories and will sit and simmer on these blogs for about a year until they realize no one else cares about it and move on for your own health the sooner you do that the better good luck
Oh, I'm calm. Calmly enjoying my Note 7 (I'd be calmer if it wasn't the exploding model, but it'll be swapped soon enough).
Actually, it's because of the jack that I bought the Note 7, but wow, Apple is living in the stone age. The Edge Panels alone are worth leaving Apple's ecosystem. Not to mention the gorgeous screen.
Phil is right, everyone should have the courage to give the note 7 or s7 a test drive. I'll never own another iPhone.
Give it a couple of months. You're going to be able to buy adapters exactly like this that are MFi certified for a fraction of the cost.
The crazy one is the one who removed perfectly good standard. There was NO need to remove the 3.5 jack other than to sell more Beats headphones and licenses for lightning cables. As old as the 3.5mm jack was, it just worked. I didn't need an adaptor, and I can plug my headphones into my phone, my iPad and my laptop just fine with the 3.5mm jack.

Or just get an Android phone and post your iPhone back to Tim with a post-it note and the letters F U written on it!
Exactly. Apple, we get it. You're pushing us into wireless.
But this is pretty stupid, eh?

It's more likely that they did it to free up room and push towards wireless while preparing for the iPhone that will remove the bezels etc. The adapter comes with the phone and most people will use it and get over it.
And a lot will move on too, and out of the apple ecosystem. If you use your headphones on multiple devices you will soon get pissed off with the adaptor. And if you bought good headphones (which I also see a lot of) you won't want to change them for new ones with a lightning connector, you will keep them and just get a different phone next time around.
