Always with the, "We need more taxation because we need more money because we already spent our record tax receipts."

You're probably not stupid but you don't understand Apple's business and you clearly don't understand Tim Cook.[/QUOTE]

I understand them both perfectly. Apple is corporate greed personified. They're not the first and won't be the last to do it but let's not kid ourselves that they have some ultruistic motivation. It doesn't stop me buying their products but I don't lie to myself that I'm supporting a good cause or something. In the end I don't care enough to boycott their products but I won't let them get away with telling lies.

What, exactly, did Apple lie about?

What he said seems fairly reasonable, he prepended both statements with ‘I do wish’ and made it clear that Apple is not a primary target of his political campaign. He knows that to bring tax money and manufacturing to his country, the government has to act and make it more attractive for companies. But the negativity around here reminds me once again of what a cesspool this politics forum is.

It's funny how people like to accuse companies of avoiding taxes... while admitting they aren't violating any laws. Congress writes the tax codes, and then criticizes people for complying with them to the T. And i seriously doubt there is a single person reading this whom has criticized these companies.. who voluntarily declines using every tax deduction that they are allowed on their own personal tax forms. If Congress has a problem, re-write the tax code. Don't blame others for your piss poor job of writing effective rules.

"In a December interview with Charlie Rose, Apple CEO Tim Cook gave some color on why Apple products are made in China. "It's skill," he said, going on to explain that China has focused heavily on training people to create machinery and parts for electronic devices."

I honestly fell off my chair laughing when I read that quote by ******* Cook. He must think we're all stupid.

They make their stuff in China because they can use slave labour to make it for a pittance and sell it on at massive markup. That's why they've got billions in the bank.

You're missing the equation. It's skill/wage. The Chinese have that wrapped up.

I think you meant altruistic and personally I think Tim Cook is exactly that so we'll need to agree to disagree on that score. Time will tell.

At the very least they have provided employment for hundreds of thousands of ordinary people for over 40 years and show no signs of stopping any time soon. They are setting new standards in terms of renewable energy use and recycling and have raised the working standards of many many workers in China and other countries.

Tim Cook himself got visibly angry and told an investor:
When we work on making our devices accessible by the blind, I don’t consider the bloody ROI

Cook then advised the investor that:
If you want me to do things only for ROI reasons, you should get out of this stock.

And that's the point Bernie was making. He's suggesting that the laws should have the loopholes closed. Yet, you probably read most of the thread...

If by slave wage you mean enough to travel to Shanghai first class return twice a month with their disposable income, sure.

You're missing the point. A company that profits BILLIONS every quarter can certainly AFFORD to pay more taxes. Someone who makes MINIMUM WAGE and struggles to make ends meet should certainly use every tax advantage available to them.

Curious what the name of YOUR COMPANY is? Given the side of the fence you are one, you must be "one of those" big money makers.

It really says a lot when people are appealing to companies to do the ‘right’ thing instead of their own legislators who enable such behaviour in the first place.

Bernie is insane. Does he really think that all major corporations and rich people will move their money to US banks so that they can pay ridiculous taxes that he is proposing? He and his supporters are insane.

"Hey guys, move everything (cash, production) to US, so that I can tax you 60%. You'll give away all of your money, but at least you can tell people that you manufacture in US"

Donald Trump: "I'm going to make Apple make everything in the US"

If they're not interested in ROI why do they keep pumping up their stock with buy-backs that cost billions and benefit nobody except wealthy investors?

If they're so altruistic why don't they give that money to good causes instead?

Apple will move back to the US when conditions are such that they won't be paying an arm and a leg to manufacture here. Read: not at all if Bernie gets his way with his tax plans.
That wouldn't be good for the US. There is cheaper labor in Africa than in China, and production still doesn't move there (much). The reason is that the Chinese government made heavy investments in certain industries and protected those industries from the world markets before opening them up to free trade. There is an efficiency in having entire towns dedicated to certain forms of production. If it were just about cost, Apple would have already moved production to Africa. But it's not. This is about cost AND agglomeration.

LMAO oops nearly fell off my chair laughing again. I'm going to end up in hospital at this rate. Your comment is just about about the most naive thing I've read all year.
