And that's the point Bernie was making. He's suggesting that the laws should have the loopholes closed. Yet, you probably read most of the thread...
Steve Jobs built an Apple factory in Cork, Ireland in 1980.I didn't realize that Apple never had money overseas while Jobs was in charge. That's news to me.
You're missing the point. A company that profits BILLIONS every quarter can certainly AFFORD to pay more taxes. Someone who makes MINIMUM WAGE and struggles to make ends meet should certainly use every tax advantage available to them.
Curious what the name of YOUR COMPANY is? Given the side of the fence you are one, you must be "one of those" big money makers.
That wouldn't be good for the US. There is cheaper labor in Africa than in China, and production still doesn't move there (much). The reason is that the Chinese government made heavy investments in certain industries and protected those industries from the world markets before opening them up to free trade. There is an efficiency in having entire towns dedicated to certain forms of production. If it were just about cost, Apple would have already moved production to Africa. But it's not. This is about cost AND agglomeration.
It really says a lot when people are appealing to companies to do the ‘right’ thing instead of their own legislators who enable such behaviour in the first place.

I would assume that's when Apple started keeping money overseas. They were certainly set up for it over 30 years ago.
Or are you suggesting Apple only started doing this in 2011 when Jobs died and Tim Cook became CEO?
The problem with socialism is that sooner or later you run out of other people's money.
Bernie Sanders, candidate for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination in the United States, was today queried about Apple in an interview with the Daily News, where he commented on the company's manufacturing policies and rumors that Apple dodges taxes.![]()
When asked if Apple is part of corporate America that is "destroying the fabric of our nation," a question inspired by statements made by Sanders' himself, Sanders said he does not believe that to be the case, instead pointing the finger at big banks like JPMorgan Chase and corporations like General Electric. He went on to clarify that he would, however, like Apple to move manufacturing of some devices to the United States and pay a fair share of taxes.Sanders is not the first presidential candidate to comment on Apple's manufacturing policies, with Donald Trump also claiming he would force Apple to manufacture its products in the United States.
Though the bulk of Apple products are manufactured overseas, Apple has in fact made an effort to move some production jobs back to the United States, something that Sanders and Trump both appear to be unaware of. Apple's Mac Pro line of computers is assembled by Flextronics in Austin, Texas, an effort that cost Apple $100 million. Many third-party components used in Apple devices are also created by suppliers located in the United States, as Re/code points out. Corning's Gorilla Glass, used in iPhones and iPads, is made in Kentucky, for example.
In a December interview with Charlie Rose, Apple CEO Tim Cook gave some color on why Apple products are made in China. "It's skill," he said, going on to explain that China has focused heavily on training people to create machinery and parts for electronic devices.
When it comes to taxes, Tim Cook has previously said that Apple pays all of the taxes that it owes. During the same December interview, he said accusations Apple avoids taxes on revenue held overseas is "total political crap." "There is no truth behind it," he said. "Apple pays every tax dollar we owe."

Sure... but the comment I replied to was suggesting that Steve Jobs NEVER kept money in Ireland.Yeah but Steve wasn't a hypocrite. He kept his mouth shut and didn't pretend that Apple was anything other than a normal greedy corporate. Tim Cook just keeps coming out with this altruistic BS which patiently isn't true.
The "right thing" is to adhere to the IRS rules for taxes. They are. case closed. If there are loopholes or whatever its not the corporations fault, its the governments fault for making those rules. Blame your government or ObamaNot that hard. I'm a long-time Apple fan and I support Bernie Sanders more than any other candidate in my lifetime. While taking an all or nothing approach to life may be popular with other, less qualified candidates, Bernie is right to criticize Apple for some aspects of its business, while not condemning them for their business practices as a whole. Apple is a corporation that creates high quality products while maintaining a fairly liberal, philanthropic culture. But it is still an American corporation using lawyers, accountants and loopholes to pay a smaller percentage of taxes than I do. I think Bernie realizes that closing corporate tax loopholes and creating a manufacturing friendly atmosphere in America is nearly impossible within the current confines of American politics. Hence, he "wishes" Apple would do the right thing, in these regards.
Except this has not happened in any of the countries running the system Sanders is proposing. Infact USA is the country that has run out of money. As you are in huge debt, and your credit value has been downgraded from triple AAA to just AA. Hows that capitalism working out for you? Certainly not working out for the 40 million people living in poverty right now with now way out?The problem with socialism is that sooner or later you run out of other people's money.
Taxes are theft.
I like where this is going!
Complete ignorance of manufacturing. You can't afford to build smartphones in the US. They would be so expensive no one would buy them. And when it comes to taxes, why should Apple Pay taxes to the US government on a product is sells in Europe? Th US should do a better job managing the money it has and balancing the budget before they tell a well-managed company like Apple what to do.
The stupidity of american republicans continue to amaze me. This whole notion of the government being the enemy. We have modern examples of what happens to a country where taxes are not payed. The collapse of Greek economy.Totally agree with ya.
Firefighters should get paid on the spot for job done or better yet not get paid if my house got burnt down and they did not prevent the fire. Also, if the police do not recover my stolen **** I should never have to pay them.

Many of you are sold on the idea of freedom to do make your own money, run your own business and being as independant as possible. But you don´t realise that Apple is doing so with thousands of workers who´s been educated by the government through the school system in one way or another. Who is able to live a life in a modern society just because of public services being upheld by taxes. And the profits from all of that hard work, in the country your forfathers built, is now being sent right out of the country. Not contributing one bit to strengthen american economy.
