Enter the Targus Slim Case to the rescue. Costing a mere £16.99 delivered from Expansys, this is a solid, hard slipcase which will protect the innards from knocks as well as drops. It adds about 0.5kg to the weight, so not for those that really must travel as light as possible. Larger versions exist in black/orange trim. I had to settle for khaki/orange, but it looks nicer in the flesh than I feared.

Looks brilliant.

I may have to consider that. I'm not worried about the weight. I'm more worried about size/thickness. I mean, there's no point buying the world's thinnest laptop if you're going to protect it using the world's thickest sleeve.

I'm likely to go for an Be.ez LA-Robe sleeve, because I've seen them in person, and I think they're amazing. However, for the price of your Targus case, it's definitely something I need to consider! :)

I had the same concerns, and yet I am protecting an object which cost more than anything my father bought for himself his entire life so I was going to go for the Booq Vyper despite the added bulk. However, this is not much thicker than any of the sleeves I saw in the Applestore. The picture is not the best, but I would say it doubles the thickness of the Air at its widest point and a little more on top where the flap folds over.

Well... I would post a picture of mine, but it is very self explanatory. I took 3 FedEx padded paks and 3 anti-static bags then got out my scissors and packing tape and made a 6 layer sleeve (top opening). I then put a few packing peanuts in the bottom of the sleeve for extra drop protection.

This is probably the safest sleeve ever for backpack use. Definitely drop proof! If someone desires, I'll take a picture I guess. I highly recommend this. (I dunno if the anti-static bags were needed... or effective, but they added some protection i think... haha

price: $0. (i had tons at work)

I'm looking for one as well.

I'm surprised that Apple stores do not yet have any cases for the 11.6" MBA.
Even more amazed that Bestbuy doesn't have any cases that fit the 11.6" MBA. I would have thought some generic netbook sleeve would work, but not the ones at the Bestbuy i went to today.

I've seen lots of sleeves for sale on eBay, but the aspect ratio of the MBA is more extreme, so its likely the sleeves won't fit the MBA.

Some of the eBay sleeves are really cheap. Anyone know of one that fits?

Does Apple offer cases (or sexy envelopes) for the 13" MBA? I thought they did yellow Manila envelopes which I've set my dainty heart on...

I'm looking for a reasonably priced sleeve with a place to put my power cord/iPhone cable. But I also love the idea of a black/red colour scheme. Anyone have any suggestions? All I'm going to be needing it for is just transportation and protection against scuffing.

brenthaven 11" prostyle sleeve

I've happy with this one from brenthaven. It has a plush fuzzy liner and an external pocket large enough for a backup drive or iphone.

I just got one from Brenthaven to satisfy a warranty issue on a different bag. I like it. It has a strap that helps you keep hold of the bag while carrying it underhanded like you would any sleeve without handle straps. That part could be improved if Brenthaven took the trouble of sewing in a stretchy gusset. Maybe they'll do that on version II of the bag so that we'll all upgrade to it. :)

It's lined well. The iPhone fits into the zipped slot. It's rain and, I think, scratch resistant. Like for when you put it into other bags - thinking that a neoprene skin on other cases could get pulls and mars on them if pressed against keys or hard edges of something else in the bag along with it.

I wanted a very thin, leather sleeve without zippers or magnets, and it had to be brown to match my Muzetto messenger bag. The only sleeve that satisfied my criteria was the Joli sleeve.

It is a lot to spend on a sleeve, but in the end at least it won't add unwanted bulk to my sexy little computer.

I got these sleeve from "untype"
http://www.untype.com/

They have 2 models, top load and side load. The side load has leather latch and the top load has wool latch.

I opted for the top load because side load leaves a lot of room for the computer to slide out!! I was initially set on the side load but decided to go the other way =)

+1, Brenthaven Prostyle 11 FTW! Seriously though, I just got this sleeve 2 days ago and love it! It just works to protection. If you want a sleeve that fits like a glove and provides great protection. It is not an ultra slim neoprene case but if you care about you MBA during your travels then this is the right sleeve. Function > Style. BTW I got my case from Vebee.com. They were fast and had the best price. I got it for $30 and change shipped! :)

cotetciel diver sleeve

I spent 2 weeks looking for the perfect sleeve.

Recommend cotetciel diver sleeve for the MBA.
http://www.coteetciel.com/diver-sleeve-urban-chic-long-opening-177.html

Lookswise, I say 8/10.
-Nice and clean cut, not gaudy or attention grabbing
-high quality stitching
-some might find it too plain, but i find it quite minimalist and understated.

Function wise, 10/10.
-wraps around the MBA like a glove. Note, you might have trouble fitting MBA into it initially, but after a day of practice, no issues whatsoever.
-provides a bit more impact protection than canvas or leather sleeve due to neoprene material
-its stretchy, so i can even slot in the charger (with the 2 pin plug), and magic mouse. NOTE: Only do this if you have a skin on ur mac (other wise u might scratch the MBA)
-there are other neoprene cases but they either have zip (useless + adds bulk), or are not as form fitting

Had earlier considered
-etsy felt sleeves
-hardgraft
-joli original

This was cheaper and better...

I use a Tom Bihn Cache.

It's effective, simple, (no velcro.) If I drop my computer, I'm probably still in trouble. My air pretty much lives inside of the Cache and then inside of a 13" Ristretto bag (also from Tom Bihn.)

Someday I might look for something else--I'm happy for now though.

Does the Ristretto have any padding of its own, or is all the protection coming from the Cache sleeve?

How do you like the ristretto? Thinking about getting one myself. What color is yours and did you get the absolute strap?

I am starting to like this case/sleeve out of all that I have seen.

Does the side pouch have room for the power adapter? Or do I have to go to the Brenthaven Prostyle Plus?

The answer is is no, but it does fit the magic mouse.
