Best Buy Pre-Order Availability

I currently work for Best Buy Mobile. I worked the iPhone 6s launch and we had a nice amount of iphones in...including the new rose gold. What we didn't have was the 128GB model. We never got those in, at least at our store because people always went with the 16GB or 64GB iPhone.

I'm betting stores will not have the 256GB model and if they do, it'll most likely be one or 2 of them.

Me personally, I selected to pre-order with my carrier. Only because my last iPhone preorder experience with Best Buy was a hot mess. It was for the iPhone 5s. The store didn't get not one iPhone in on release day. After 3 days they still didn't have any in. So I canceled the preorder, drove the 35 miles to my corporate sprint store and grabbed one from there.

Now my Note 7 preorder went smooth. We had a nice amount of Note 7's in for Sprint, some for ATT but we didn't get any for Verizon till a day or two later. And at time, we only got one in.

I was 1 click away from att preorder then i saw 9/23-29 shipping date so i check apple.com and its 2-3 weeks for 128/plus/black.

I check best buy and shipping and store pick up is available for 9/16 so i preorder with store pick-up 9/16.
After maybe 15-20min i check shipping and store pick up for the same spec iphone and its not available anymore.

I just hope that the 9/16 pickup will never change for later date.

I also pre-order my Note 7 last month. I preorder it the day before the release day and pick up went smooth on release day.

I preordered the iPhone 7+ matte black 256 gb from Best Buy and got confirmation email at 3:08 am. I can't seem to find any other threads about people preordering the iPhone 7 or 7+ from Best Buy -- maybe bad experiences in previous years have scared people off from ordering from Best Buy? In which case, hopefully they will be able to ship/deliver on the 16th?

I've seen countless threads about this. Best Buy's phone department is a joke. I personally and people I know had really bad experiences with pre ordering at Best Buy. Just a heads up.

I pre-ordered from BB looking like I'll get it Friday. Do I have to activate the phone when it arrives, or do they activate it upon shipping and my current phone won't work?

Just curious for those with orders "in progress" under your payment info does it say "waiting authorization?"

Wow really? They gave me no problem at all. It was said a lot of people have trouble with in store pickup so maybe others had the same idea about changing?

I preordered the note 7 to have shipped to home. It came on release day. BUT I didnt get an email till 4pm the day before it arrived!
Needless to say I retured the note the day I got it, it was so so bad.
The problem with this iPhone is I ordered the iPhone 7 Plus jet black 256 and it says 9/16 delivery, so I know it's just a generic date because no one even on Apple is getting it at release. So I'm sure mine won't come for weeks if not longer. FYI to anyone who doesn't know. With att you keep your unlimited data and can still do next with a new iPhone through Best Buy online.
I really hope my jet black 7plus comes before October

Then a few hours later I was on BB's website and saw they were saying 'delivers by 9/16'. BB let me order those for shipping, including the phones despite having got the Apple orders already. I'm feeling like I should cancel the Apple orders for the phones at least, so I don't risk having both orders canceled. But can BB's "get it by 09/16" in the order page and email be trusted? Or am I better off canceling the phones on BB and sticking with Apple's later ship date? I have only ever pre-ordered a game from BB and it was 6 months early that time, so I have no idea if thats a hard date or not?

Haha, awe! I feel for you. I have never worked in phones, but I worked a few Christmases in a premiere toys store and have an inkling of the chaos. I ordered 2 256gb Black 7+'s (Not the jet black, just black). Do they have a habit of promising a delivery date in ordering and email then not coming through?

Horrible lol Like Jay said the Samsung's went good,Apples launches are always a Sh!tStorm. They always over promise on the phones. We had something like 262 pre orders with a delivery date of Friday. I guarantee you we wont get more than 50. So we get the fun time of getting yelled at and called names because peoples phones arent in on Friday.

We usually get mostly Sprint and Verizon,We always get shorted with ATT for some reason. The plus models are always short vs the regular 7 units. Gold and Silver seem to be the ones we get most of. You should be getting a call from someone from Mobile on Thursday or Friday morning to set up a time when to come in and pick up your phone and we will help you set up the device and transfer data and back ups. If you dont get a call by 8PM Thursday night,Try calling your store and have them check for you.

Yeah man, iPhone launch days are crazy lol. I remember after the 2014 i6 launch, I went and got me a few drinks Lol. It was that damn crazy. And typically with BBY, your your delivery date does stand...especially if you ordered early. Now with that being said, for those who ordered the Jet Black model...I wouldn't hold my breath for a 9/16 delivery. You're more likely to win the lottery, just after getting struck by lightning.

Regular black (even in the plus variant) you'll more than likely be fine. But that damn Jet Black is the one everybody wants. And I already know I'm gonna get yelled at by customers b/c it's not available

Yeah, as the customer, I've noticed Best Buy doing this kind of stuff with lots of different stock. I don't know why they can't get it straight after all these years. Heck they won over Circuit City, ha! We missed a good sale price on a TV because of a similar thing. I imagine you guys end up getting to be the punching bags for that. Stinks!

Yea make sure yall dont do what our store did last year,We were short staffed so our manager sent one of the MCSA girls to help us,She was helping do the back up and restoring of the phones. Yea turns out she was restoring other peoples data to other customers phones.....

You would have a better chance getting them from an online order with Bestbuy vs a store. I dont know how they determine the online shipping system and shipping from warehouse.

I'm gonna also get crap b/c my JB 7+ is gonna be delivered by the 23rd. Preordered mine through Verizon (couldn't do it through BBY b/c employees apparently aren't allowed to) But yeah I'm gonna get a lot of "WHAT DO YOU MEAN THERES NO JET BLACK IPHONES UNTIL NOVEMBER?!?! The iPhone 6 launch, they literally had me working the closing shift with a new hire. So basically I ran the show, by myself lol. For the Note 7 had two people who didn't show up. I ended worked damn near a 12hr shift b/c I couldn't leave bbym (the other two people there were still kinda new)

I'm basically the sales lead for my dept and I'm expected to just handle every issue. But I will say this, with me...no matter how crazy things get (even if I'm by myself) I never do two things 1) get a manager involved in anything or 2)ask for help from another associate in another dept. I feel like if you're not in bbym and don't know how to do bbym things...yeah don't come to my dept Lol. And I don't like getting managers involved (unless it's for like a manager override on a price match or something) b/c getting them involved always makes the situation worse. So I just handle every issue and just deal with it
