No, it's not an example of that because I wasn't using the notification center example to draw parallels to Samsung. I was merely asking you: do you think Apple copied Google based on your logic?

Here is another example of the tu quoque:

"Republican candidate Chester Molester is immoral because he cheated on his wife!"

"But, democrats cheat on their wives too!!"

Do you see the tu quoque there, even though the second guy didn't specifically reference Republican candidate Chester Molester?

Unless you had something completely different in mind with your gotcha question -- but in that case, I suspect your line of reasoning is a non sequitur.

Used to love going to the Samsung store in Korea while living there

They do make a lot of goods.

I also believe this is a great idea to have competing stores. I hate going into Best Buy when a new display is up only to be disappointed its a Samsung kiosk and not Apple

Now at least we will know

This makes sense. Many other retail chains do this store within a store concept. With Best Buy's financial woes it does not surprise me that they are turning to this tactic.
Very true.

It's a great approach for Samsung as it will put them on a more even plane with Apple within Best Buy.

It will be a great addition to Best Buy, I hope to see them survive. After all we need the retail store presence from as many companies as possible. Online stores have excellent advantages, but so do retail locations.

Once more we are seeing a first hand example that Apple's not the only one who can be creative and wise with retail presence.

You mean Android's variant of iOS notifications? Pretty sure notifications were there from iPhone's launch, they just became more robust over time. Shock!

Where exactly was Android at the iPhone launch? Somewhere between vaporware and Symbian rip-off.

No. Really just no. Before iOS 5, notifications as a pulldown menu didnt not exist in iOS. They were added in. In contrast, Android's pulldown menu for notifications has been there since pre-beta releases of the software back in 2007.

Did iOS hav notifications? Yes. Did the newer iOS notification system get essentially nicked from both the Android one, and one that someone made in Cydia? Yes.

Samsung's TVs Cameras, phones and stuff, look just like every other one on the market.

When the iPhone came out, everyone said, "This is crazy,no one will buy one of these, everyone want's flip phones." When the iPad came out, everyone said, "This is crazy, they should try making the iPad a little computer, running a desktop OS, just like everyone else." When the iPod came out, "They should just make another Walkman clone, just like everyone else." When the iMac came out, "This is crazy, no one wants a computer that looks like that..."

Well seeing as you can't make tv's, cameras and most other electrical products much different from any other manufacturers, your comment that they all look alike is pretty silly!

I've also been an apple customer for many years before the first iPod came out ... and I never recalled anyone saying 'this is crazy'! What people did say was that Apple products, design wise (not spec) led the way, which they did, but these days, Apple have fallen way behind the competition in both design and specification. If you'd like examples, take a look at the HTC One! You can also look at Samsungs prowess in the tv sector and now phones ... and remember a significant part of most apple products contain Samsung electronics! As such, peoples attempt to call Samsung (even to the point they copied Apple) is pretty lame and childish.

I own iMacs, iPods, iPhones and plenty of other products so I think I have the right to my opinion. That is, Apple have lost their way and the competition have overtaken ... and I honestly don't care if they've copied them to do so ... It's not as if apple have never copied or stolen other people's ideas is it now!!!!!

I've just moved from the iPhone to a Lumia 820 on Windows. It's a far better phone in my opinion (both build quality and function) and I love it! I also won't be upgrading my iMac due to apples lame preoccupation with making everything slim, form over function! I love the iPad but since breaking free from apples iPhone ecosystem, I've released other manufacturers can and do give me everything apple products can, so I see no reason not to look elsewhere next tablet purchase. Try buying a Nokia lumia and see for yourself; skydive, find my phone ... all those things I loved about my iPhone are there, but better specded. Don't diss others .... Try them first!!!!

Apple invented everything in the world. Everything they've done is completely unique, and never before seen. Everyone else copies them. Only Apple originates ideas.

No they don't. They pretty much flat out stole the Android notification center.

TU QUOQUE TU QUOQUE TU QUOQUE TU QUOQUE TU QUOQUE OLOL I WIN ARGUMENT LOOK AT ME GO NO ONE CAN PROVE ME WRONG CUZ I LOOKED UP A LOGICAL FALLACY AND AM NOW MISAPPLYING IT EVERY CHANCE I GET!

Really, Samsung?!?

I am sure that Best Buy's "Samsung Store-within-a-Store" concept will suck just as bad or worse than its "Apple Store-within-a-Store" concept, because Samsung is a lame copy of Apple in its personal/mobile devices. I don't take away from Samsung's manufacturing prowess, but their copycat design mentality is just mind-bogglingly lame.

[Edit: I should clarify that when I refer to the "Apple Store-within-a-Store" concept as lame, I am not taking away from Apple. I just don't think the "Apple Store-within-a-Store" concept at *Best Buy* in *any way* compares to the experience of "Apple Store-within-a-Store" concept at an Apple Store!]

Ha ha, "looked up a logical fallacy." Yes, I somehow intuited the logical structure of his argument and googled that in such a way as to come up with "tu quoque." Your argument from all caps has convinced me.

Everyone in here who says, "Oh yeah! Apple copied something too!" is committing the tu quoque fallacy. The fact that Apple copied something does not in any way absolve Samsung -- as a matter of fact, it implicitly affirms the premise because if you didn't think Samsung copied, you wouldn't point out that Apple copied "too."

Apple copies. Yes. Samsung's wholesale copying is in an entirely different league. It's codified in that internal memo with over 100 different points where Samsung's phones differed from Apple's iPhone, and the solution IN EACH CASE was to make their phone more like Apple's.

Until you can show me anything similar from Apple, your argument that "Apple copies too!" falls flat.

The Tu Quoque argument is, at it's most basic, a "Samsung does drugs. OH YEAH? WELL APPLE DOES DRUGS TOO" conversation. It's a statement to put someone else on the defensive, without countering anything they've said directly. It doesn't apply to most of the arguments you're tagging it with.

What we have here is a "Samsung copies shamelessly, and I hate them for it. This is why I buy Apple products. They never copy anybody", which, in turn, is countered with a "your ignorance is astounding. I can name at least 15 things the company you put on a pedestal has copied from the competition in the past".

In other words, they're countering someone else's logic with evidence that refutes their statement. They're not just saying "yeah, Apple does it too". Therefore, Tu Quoque doesn't apply here.

If you can point to a post here where someone said "Apple never copies anybody," I'll accept your argument. If not, the tu quoque applies.

My post was, in its entirety: "Has Samsung had an original idea in their entire existence?" Here was your first response in this thread:

Renzatic said:
The idea of having a dedicated area to sell your products within a larger store was a wholly original idea invented by Apple back in 1943.

Everyone knows that.

Note that no one prior to your reply said anything about "Apple never copies anybody." Note also that your reply can be rephrased as "Apple copies too!" That is a tu quoque, not an evidence-filled response to counter a prior claim.

Has Samsung had an original idea in their entire existence?

Gimme a break. As if Apple invented that concept?

Please. Apple copied that sheit from Bose and Sony, and those guys hardly invented it. Fer chrissakes, that sort of a concept is used in Target for Martha Stewart dreck.

----------

I wonder when stores will merely be store-in-store-galore paradigms... and then we can just call them MALLS.

Pssstttt........Those sorts of places are called "Department Stores".

ya you can do some cool stuff with it, like photostream, icloud syncing with your ipad and mac, apps like Garageband, iPhoto, iBooks, iTunes, iTunes U, Find my phone, Find my friends, Infinity Blade, iWork, iMovie... and it's so small and light that you cant even feel it in your front pocket.

Oh wait...

Yeah. Wrong device. The device you're referring to is the one I'm planning to get rid of

No, it's more me saying in a roundabout sarcastic way that it's incredibly stupid anyone would bring bring copying into this topic in the first place.

----------

So, Renzatic ... tu quoque or not tu quoque?

No tu quoque, because he's countering the argument that Samsung copied in the first place. Samsung isn't copying Apple, because Apple wasn't the first company to reserve store space specifically to sell their products.

Yes, incredibly stupid given Samsung's demonstrated history of slavishly copying Apple. What a hasty leap!

I see. Because Samsung copied someone other than Apple.

You see what you want to see in that document. You clearly don't understand what the document really means. It's cool. It's a common mistake.

Without Apple, there would be no samsung.

Congratulations - the most ridiculous post in this thread. And that's an achievement given the other ridiculous comments that came before you.
